  3. RCOM is on EVDO spree...... No Stopping at all.......... RCOM now hits past 225 mark and approaching 250 cities/towns. http://www.rcom.co.in/Rcom/personal/internet/wireless_internet_coverage.html :hi2: Clearly, one can see lot of traction in the circles of Andhra Pradesh, (Uttar Pradesh + Uttarakhand) and Tamil Nadu. It's not surprising to know that they've not won 3G spectrum in those circles.
  4. Dear Sougata, kindly help him out.....
  5. source :: http://www.crn.com/mobile/221600785;jsessionid=40Y4GH5TYQGFJQE1GHOSKH4ATMY32JVN Its interesting that Apple is following RIM in releasing a phone which incorporates HSDPA and EVDO capability. PS:: Blackberry Tour has both HSDPA and EVDO capability
  6. @Hetal Let me treat your posts 33 & 34 in unison and clarify the following points. First, voice and data simultaneous has 2 aspects. (1) voice+data simultaneous during video calls (2) voice+data simultaneous in the case of making voice call and simultaneously browsing internet If voice and data are carried in 2 different carriers like 1X and EVDO, case (2) may be achieved by high end multi-core processing chips but certainly case (1) cannot be achieved. For video calls, 'Mic' bits must be merged with 'camera' bits like VoIP and has to be carried on the data channel which in this case is EVDO. But at the same time video call bits ('Mic'+'Camera') should not be merged with other internet bits since internet and video calls are tariffed & routed separately. So you've to create 2 data streams within a carrier. This is where VORA chips in. But VORA solves both case(1) and case (2) since anyway it has created a layer within the data channel, now simultaneous voice and internet can be achieved on a single core processor itself since scanning 1X channel is no more required. "EVDO will never support Voice on its Channel only 1x will support Voice" is not true. Till EVDO Rev. 0, voice cannot be carried in EVDO channel mainly due to low uplink speed but EVDO Rev. A (with VORA patch) can carry layered voice and thus support video calls. EVDO Rev B can also carry layered voice on its channel and can support video calls. In nutshell, no chip on the world can help achieve video calls unless the n/w has the capability to carry merged data on its n/w. EVDO can carry voice from the revision EVDO Rev. A(VORA). Let us be very clear of this point. If video calls is purely an issue with chips/handsets, why no CDMA operator in India is highlighting & promoting video calls in EVDO. Come on my dear friend, operator never cares about handset capability they'll always advertise the maximum n/w capability as it's clearly visible in 3G advertisements promoting max speed of 21.1 Mbps. I've not come across even single handset supporting more than 14.4 Mbps on HSDPA n/w but operators will always say 21.1 Mbps because handset capability is not their domain and it's purely customer issue.
  7. Worldmode Iphone On The Wings

Verizon Finally Lands the iPhone source :: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748704739504576068170230339348.html Finally and Finally we're going to get CDMA Iphone. :Sorprendido: :Sorprendido: My feeling is this Iphone will be EVDO Rev. A & LTE combo. As reported earlier, Verizon is going VORA patch on their Rev A n/w to support video calls.
  8. Sibal says that the logic underlying CAG estimate is "completely flawed" source :: http://pib.nic.in/newsite/erelease.aspx?relid=68943 Presentation:: http://pib.nic.in/archieve/others/2011/jan/d2011010701.ppt The press report and the presentation is highly informative and I never expected such a clarity of information from a Govt. department. I salute Govt. for speaking through meaningful data instead of political statements. :hi2: :hi2: Way to go....... The following points has to go deeper into everyone's heart and brain as the case may be. (1) Even CAG does not say that someone has looted 'hypothetical' amount. It says it as just presumptive loss to Govt. (2) The calculation of the 'hypothetical' amount by CAG is entirely flawed (3) One should have larger heart to accept that service afford-ability is more important than revenue generation.
  9. Here is a slew of promotional offers on BSNL CDMA prepaid. The offers range from free RUIM(with talktime of Rs. 20) to STD Azadi pack(Onnet(L&S) - Free, Offnet(L&S) - 30p) at Rs. 300 http://bsnl.co.in/service/Promotional_offer_CDMA.htm  Does any operator (either CDMA or GSM) have guts to meet this tariff? Really Really a very good news for CDMA. CDMA is here in India to stay .......
  10. BSNL slashes its 1x USB modem price from Rs. 2000 to Rs. 1500 till 31.3.2011 on promotional basis. There's also 20% discount/rebate on usage/FMC for Govt./PSU employees. http://bsnl.co.in/service/internet_on_cdma.htm
  11. Guidelines on 3G video calls soon: Sibal source :: http://www.thehindu.com/news/national/article1035559.ece Hope Govt. will not commit the same mistake("Allowing services initially and later begging with operators to setup monitoring mechanism") as done in the case of BB. India has already waited for more than 4 years for 3G and so no one so worried if it gets delayed for another 2-3 months for the meaningful purpose of ensuring security. :confuse:
  12. Samsung Duo 169 W169 Dual Sim Phone

  13. Micromax E 360

@ni0987, Is it a OMH handset? I mean, Can I insert any operator's(RCOM/TATA Indicom/Virgin/MTS/BSNL) RUIM and get 3.1 Mbps speed?
  14. In a related development, TRAI invites Expression of Interest (EOI)for consultancy services on Migration to Next Generation Network (NGN). The consultants are expected to prepare an exhaustive report on technical and commercial issues relating to NGNs. The work would also entail preparation of a consultation paper that would be used by TRAI to engage the stakeholders in an exhaustive consultation process on all relevant issues. After the consultation process is over, the consultant would be required to assist TRAI in evaluating the comments and arriving at suitable conclusions. http://www.trai.gov.in/WriteReadData/trai/upload/Tenders/49/infndiv11.pdf A very good move by TRAI. It's better for TRAI to have consultant on such an important task like NGN migration. On the same breadth, it's also very important that such selected consultant is no-way related to any of the operators of Indian Telecom & Broadcasting Domain. Otherwise, such related operator will try to push their agenda through the selected consultant.
  15. It's a classic example of BSNL. To know BSNL coverage, one should visit some third party site. :rofl_200: :rofl_200: :rofl_200:
  16. Fantastic Fantastic Fantastic ........ +1 for you. Nothing can be said better than this for the people who're acting dumb although they understood real facts.... Hard real-time monitoring of each and every bit of data is essential and it's there to stay forever in any part of the world......... My dear friends, if anyone of you want to leave the country for the monitoring issue better leave immediately. I'm sure you'll return back to India within next month because you'll realize India is the country where monitoring is least stringent in the world...... The time should not be wasted on debating whether we require monitoring or not which I feel should not even be dreamed to be stopped. Focus should be on the methods/controls to avoid the leakage of such monitored data outside Govt.'s domain. The very reason why we're debating this issue in this topic is because of the leak of the communication between IB and DoT. We've to strive hard as a nation to close such holes in the Govt. through which such information is siphoned by 'unethical' media. Life of a human is more precious than any other human's privacy. Nothing should left untouched to protect the lives. Try to put yourself in the shoes of a low earning parents who have toiled all their lives to bring up their 25-yr child to lose him/her to such an atrocious act of terrorism. Privacy can never be an excuse for not preventing terrorism.
  17. All OMH handsets are RUIM handsets but not all RUIM handsets are OMH complaint.

first post updated with "Kingston 2GB memory card(MRP Rs 550) free with the handset"
  19. My dear friend, I plead to disagree completely on each statement above individually and collectively. MTS/TATA has upgraded each of the tower in their highlighted city/town is just a myth. No proof exists. If they've guts let them reveal it in their websites. Let the published data speak for themselves.... Cheating is the way in which each business is run in the current world. Equating any corporate to the level of Harichandra is not necessary and it's like applying ash on our face on our own. India is now a world of educated but very cost conscious youth. Who wants EVDO? Net users. Where they'll search of services? In the websites of service providers. Where is the coverage map published? In the website of service provider. Whom they'll trust? Companies which reveal more information. Other than BSNL-Maharastra, no other unit is worth mentioning. Please show us at least outdated list of cities/towns covered in any other BSNL website other than Maharastra(outdated info) & Chennai(outdated info). EVDO coverage of BSNL is better not to be spoken about. At least RCOM has upgraded 1 / 4 BTSes but BSNL has just updated 1 BTS for every 10 BTSes.Total stupidity. Now, Reliance has hit past 200 towns/cities and approaching 225. Way to go Reliance.  For the latest coverage list visit.... http://www.rcom.co.in/Rcom/personal/internet/wireless_internet_coverage.html
  20. Another public notice by DoT on the subject. http://dot.gov.in/as/security/sw_30.12.2010.pdf

  22. Indian Telecom Minister Announces Action Plan for 100 Days source :: http://telecomtalk.info/indian-telecom-minister-announces-action-plan-for-100-days/52718/ A very good initiative by Sibal on the points 2,3,"steps to accelerate migration from IPv4 to IPv6 at the earliest, release of IPv6 standards by Telecom Engineering Centre for implementation in the country, etc." part of 4,5,6,7,8,9,10 Let us pray to God to entrust with him with courage to deal with person like A.K. Antony (A immovable property of Indian Govt). Best wishes for him to take Indian Telecom to next level. Regarding point 1 and "11 years have passed since NTP ’99 and many changes have taken place thereafter. Action will be initiated to formulate a comprehensive ‘National Telecom Policy 2011’ including the recognition of Telecom as infrastructure and as an essential service, encouraging Green Telecom" part of point 4 is purely TRAI's task. DoT has only support role to play. Why on earth DoT wants to do TRAI's job? Does finance ministry do the job of SEBI, RBI & IRDA? Why can't Telecom Minister allow TRAI to function at the same league of SEBI, RBI & IRDA? DoT has so many tasks on its hand like implementation of TRAI regulations and plans like VoIP introduction, National Broadband Plan, CDMA 3G auction, Spectrum re-farming etc., It also has routine job of audit on operators over subscriber verification, radiation, service roll-out, security clearances on network gears, establishing real-time monitoring of services etc., etc., When DoT is struggling to do its own tasks it's perplexing to understannd why it's trying to take over job of TRAI? Why is it trying to engage with operators on policy issues when it very clear that stakeholders'(operators, cosumers etc.,) facing Govt. instrument of Indian Telecom domain is TRAI? Raja made a mistake of doing TRAI's jobs now & then. We now know the result of such ambitions. I plead with Sibal not make same mistakes again & again. Now, operators treat TRAI as cow dung since they know they can overturn any regulation by TRAI through their influence over DoT's office. Let us give TRAI its place which was enviosioned when it was created.... Stop DoT from even touching single word in policy without consent from TRAI. Every institute must be allowed to do its job. It better for DoT to stay away from policy matters so that it'll get good time to do its licensor's task meaningfully and without delay. The problem in India is everyone wants to do everything. Greatness of a man does not lie in doing everything by himself instead lies in allowing(guiding) others to do their assinged tasks even when he knows that he can to do it better and has power to do it.
  23. @me_saket. Thanks for the lovely analysis. As far as I know, your opinion is something which I also vouch for. When TATA or MTS proclaims that one particular city/town is covered, it means that they've upgraded all of their BTSes in that city/town. It's just my feeling. But, Why these 2 companies reluctant to publish coverage maps if it can highlight superiority over RCOM's coverage? So this action of hiding information leads to an another feeling that 'may be my feeling about MTS/TATA is wrong and they've something to hide so they're unwilling to release coverage maps'. RCOM claims that they've covered one particular town/city even if one BTS is upgraded to EVDO Rev A out of say available 5 BTSes in that particular town/city. It's quite strange but at least RCOM has guts to reveal the truth in their coverage map so as a subscriber I can make an informed decision. Transparency is something which I observe in RCOM as far as EVDO coverage is concerned which is bit missing in TATA/MTS and which is completely missing in BSNL/MTNL. Transparency leads to critical comment like one given by me_saket which helps company to correct itself which in turn leads to better customer experience. I pray and hope RCOM exhibits such transparency even in their 3G roll-out by publishing coverage maps. May be MTS/TATA can learn a lesson or two and become more transparent by which they can highlight their true superiority over competitors.
  24. It's not correct but widespread misconception. EVDO Rev. A can support simultaneous voice & data which is required for video calls. There's a need for n/w upgrade/patch to VORA(Voice Over Rev A). This information is clearly highlighted in the first post of this topic with a information that Verizon is upgrading their Rev A n/w with VORA patch. The above observation is not true. Going for RUIM based handsets by Indian Operators is the major milestone in Indian CDMA market. It's because of this we still have few CDMA customers left in Indian Telecom otherwise entire CDMA customers might have been wiped off when Reliance & TATA launched their GSM operations. Launching RUIM based handsets never ever stopped any operator from importing non RUIM models from S Korea, USA etc., OMH handsets, RUIM handsets, Non-RUIM handsets harmoniously co-exist in Indian CDMA market.
  25. The above one is lovely.... :Contento: :Contento: On serious note, Cartel(Airtel,Vodafone & Idea) will stoop to any level to truncate MNP. After all, They're the one who postponed it to Jan 20 by quoting petty reason like their employees are on festival season. Every sensible Indian knows how many days leave they might have given to their employees during this so called 'festive' season. I can guarantee that they would not have given more than 5 days(that too after promise made by such employee that on return to work he'll compensate those 5 days by working through weekend in the month of Jan) to any employee in their organization.
