CDMA In India – Past, Present And Future
kesav replied to rajanmehta's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
IMHO, waiting for another round of 4G(LTE) spectrum auction is worthless in Indian context. Everyone knows how much time past 3G&4G auction has to took see the light. There'll be lot and lot of reasons(economic situation, spectrum to be vacated by defense, TRAI vs DoT fight, 2G Scam, 3G Scam, finalizing auctioneers etc., etc.,) for Govt. to delay the next round of auction. Even if next round of 4G auction starts MTS cannot be guaranteed of wining by fighting against TATA, Vodafone, Airtel. Better prudence is to make use of the current available spectrum to maximum extent possible. If MTS wants to be meaningful player in Indian data market, it's better for it to launch national level Rev. B ASAP. Even if they later launch LTE, LTE can only be launched in major cities/towns for next 2-4 years. During those initial years you need better speed to fall back in the smaller towns/villages. IMHO, When you've LTE's 80 Mbps in large cities/towns at least it's better to have 14.7 Mbps speed in smaller towns/villages to provide good user experience for shuttling customers. Just think of situation of 80 Mbps in some pockets and rest of India in 3.1 Mbps, how bad user will feel when he shifts tower to tower. In order to achieve such a national 14.7 Mbps footprint, it's better for MTS to start updating all their BTS nationally(with completion target of 4th quarter 2011) to Rev. B HW&SW immediately. -

BSNL has good chance of regaining its no. 4 position in wireless segment BSNL & Uninor are doing good for last 3 months. -
Sibal briefs city ministers on 2G source:: http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/delhi/Sibal-briefs-city-ministers-on-2G/articleshow/7182045.cms Really a very good move by Sibal. Indeed, he has to arrange such meetings with each state's Congress MPs, MLAs and State ministers to disseminate true information. Information is wealth. Only through real good information we can defeat the the 'paid' media campaign. When media fails to deliver, its duty of the elected representatives to defeat the sinister motive of money thugs and deliver truth to the people of India.

2G spectrum scam: Gadkari meets Joshi to close BJP gap over PAC source :: http://www.ndtv.com/article/india/2g-spectrum-scam-gadkari-meets-joshi-to-close-bjp-gap-over-pac-75840 Let us pray and hope that Joshi has prevailed upon Gadkari on the merits of allowing constitutional bodies like SC,CBI,PAC,ED to do its functions without any interruptions. Hope Gadkari had come out of the meeting with more sense on the Indian constitution bodies and its functions. Opposition does not have any merit in demanding the setting up of body which will parallel the activities of other constitutional bodies(SC,PAC,CBI,ED etc.,) Only overwhelming request to opposition by Indian public is to park their egos and be meaningful in demanding the Govt. Fundamentally, opposition does not have any mandate to dictate the running Govt in the functioning of parliamentary democracy. At the max, they can plead for certain things from Govt but if Govt does not budge they can take the issues to people(in streets) if they've guts. Stalling parliament is absolute mockery of democracy and can never be tolerated by any lover of parliamentary democracy.

The website is further updated with new OMH handsets. http://www.cdg.org/devices/omh/devices-operators.asp Out of which Foxconn Rockies is a Rev. A. :GirandoOjos:

http://www.micromaxinfo.com/product.php?cat=CDMA&product=E360 It's always a problem with Micromax website. They always miss out key words in the specification. No clear information on whether it's OMH or non-OMH, whether it's RUIM based or not, whether it's EVDO Rev. 0 or Rev.A? Just disappointing Web information for potential buyer........

Since the device is RUIM based, let us hope it'll be OMH complaint. It's Rev. A phone since the 3.1 Mbps is highlighted in the site. http://www.micromaxinfo.com/product.php?cat=ComingSoon&product=EG333 If it turns out to be OMH as we pray then it's remarkable phone for Indian consumers. The ideal phone which we're aiming for is This phone covers 75% of that expectations. i.e OMH Rev. A on CDMA side but 2G GSM(against our expectation of HSDPA) on the other side.
-
Its is a OMH phone cause thats the only way they can offer EVDO, reason for not using OMH logo is they locked it for TATA and OMH logo is not allowed by Qualcomm for Network Locked Handsets OMH has nothing to do with EVDO. 1X devices can also be OMH complaint. There are many devices which are EVDO but non-OMH. Almost all devices launched for US market falls under this category. All recent BB devices(8530,9630,9650) are non-OMH EVDO devices.

Uninor Launches Social Service Campaign “Rahat”

A CSR-Corporate Scam Reversal Drive!! Good One.... :Contento: -
But, why are they not updating their coverage list at the speed at which they expand EVDO coverage? Is there a disconnect between web team and field team in MTS? http://mtsindia.in/MBlaze/mts-coverge.html In case of MTS, it's just list of cities. MTS is feeling too lazy even to update just the list of names. But RCOM, which has coverage maps along with names is updating the list(with maps) at lightning fast matching their field expansion. http://www.rcom.co.in/Rcom/personal/internet/wireless_internet_coverage.html MTS has to learn a lesson or two from RCOM in managing web information. Outdated web information is like serving a stinking food for guests.

DoT: 3G Services Tested Were Not Live, but With A Lag Of 5 Minuites
kesav replied to satishdave's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
If the article is true, then it's bad precedent to be set by Govt. Govt. must learn certain lessons from BB issue. RIM is playing war of attrition with Govt. since their services are live and will be very difficult for the Govt. to ban them. Till date, although deadline of 31st Jan is fast approaching, there is no light at the end of the tunnel for BB issue. Indeed, RIM is not at all working for solution, it's actually working with media 24X7 to generate mass hysteria against Govt. using privacy as a tool. BB issue is more than 2 years old, so each and every operator knows the real need of the security agencies quite long back. Crying now, saying there's no technology is utterly stupid and mischievous. On technical point of view, I feel it's very very easy to offer real-time monitoring of video calls since it's not based on public-private key encryption. This crisis is purposely created to push the Govt to allow the services now and later with the help of 'payable' media play with the Govt. Just think, when Govt. finds so difficult to tame a service like BB which is used by < 1 % of Indian population, what can it do with video call service which may get adopted by > 25% of Indian population by June 2011. Indeed, it's time for operators to work with technology providers instead wasting time with Govt if they're really interested in launching services. Come on Govt !! Don't make a same mistake and fall prey to operators' trap. -

Reliance Communications Launches 3G Mobile Services
kesav replied to anshu_s09's topic in Data services
I like the methodology (very similar to BSNL) of RCOM 3G tariff when compared against TATA Docomo. TATA unnecessarily bundles voice with Data which I feel is utter stupidity. In RCOM, you can continue everything about voice with your existing 2G tariff and only use 3G data plan as top-up for your data. That's best way. For the sake of 3G why on earth someone should loose all the STVs and RCVs of voice. RCOM, continues to have different data plans for 2G and 3G which is very important since a subscriber can opt for 3G data speed only when he needs it and rest of the time he can continue with 2G speed. Another good thing about RCOM is it does not restrict the speed for any data plans and the speed purely depends on handset and connected BTS capability. If both are breathing 21.1 Mbps then a subscriber in any data plan can make use of it. RCOM gives flexibility to use the data plan in any mode(mobile internet, tethering, USB modem) the subscriber wants to. RCOM has launched 21.1 Mbps USB modem simultaneously with 7.2 Mbps modem which is not the case with TATA(TATA still has only 7.2 Mbps device on sale). RCOM scores over TATA in all aspects. RCOM matches with BSNL in tariff flexibility but falls in terms of tariff cost. RCOM (max 21.1 Mbps) scores over BSNL(max 7.2 Mbps) in terms of speed and device availability matching the BTS speed. -
Although the effort put by the reporter to make the pictorial is appreciable but the intention is malicious and condemnable to the core. The complete pictorial is loaded against one particular person and tries to bury the truth with help of true lies. (1) "First Come First Serve(FCFS)" is a policy which was formulated by then BJP telecom minister. Ideally the timeline must have started from 2001 (2)"Raja rules out 2G spectrum auction ignoring TRAI recommendation" is a lie. TRAI never recommended auction of 2G spectrum as TRAI was clear that auction will never stand in the court of law since incumbents were alloted 2G spectrum on the basis of FCFS. Auctioning the 2G spectrum in the middle of course will not only be pro-incumbents but will effectively drive away new entrants thus proving entirely anti-competitive. TRAI always felt FCFS to be continued but it only proposed to revise the1651 crore for pan-India spectrum to the level of current of market conditions. (3)"DoT, under A Raja's charge circumvents TRAI's recommendations to allow for the sale of stakes in companies" is just atrocious and malicious lie. Never TRAI asked DoT to stop the sale of stakes On the contrary, TRAI was always for faster and quicker merger & acquisition norms which will allow better consolidation and at the same time disallow 'big fish eating small fish' situation (4)"By allowing resale of stakes, DoT lost more than 60,000 crore". The wordings in the statement is completely malicious. DoT never allowed resale of stakes but to be precise DoT did not prevent resale of stakes initially till the below scenario rose. (5)"Raja tells telecom commission to ban the sale of promoters' equity after SWAN and Unitech deals". Here again the wordings were twisted to push reporter's objective rather than reveal the truth in its spirit. No one(Govt, opposition, TRAI, DoT, Competition Commission, etc.,) on earth predicted that Etisalat and Telenor will pour in such huge money into Indian Telecom at the time when spectrum were distributed. Once these two miraculous events happened, DoT immediately swung into action to prevent such further sales. It is not that DoT & Raja wants to prevent other companies from selling but allowing SWAN and Unitech. The above pictorial is the classic example of the state of media in India. It's completely biased towards money and it has only one motto of making paid propaganda for their illegal financiers.

PM Manmohan Singh's PAC offer rips BJP apart source :: http://www.indianexpress.com/news/pm-manmohan-singhs-pac-offer-rips-bjp-apart/730210/ As expected, the war has started between old brigade(lead by Joshi) vs new brigade(led by Jaitley) of BJP. As always BJP never has any central command and it'll always work head-less with each one trying to dictate terms. From the beginning of this JPC issue, young arrogant BJP leaders(Jaitley, Swaraj, Gadkari) never showed any rationality and tried to hold on to their egos rather than looking at the offers made by the ruling party. Worst part is that they never listened to their seasoned leaders like Advani, Joshi and others who realized in the mid of the parliamentry logjam that JPC is not necessary for this issue. Let us wait and pray that seasoned BJP leaders will take control of the party and pull the arrogant young horses into the meaningful course. For a democracy to succeed, we need matured opposition.

TDSAT asks TRAI to review tariff order for DTH and addressabe cable My initial reaction to this judgement is "very disappointing" The article does not clearly say about other parameters of the TRAI regulations like A-la-Carte retail pricing etc., Let us wait for the judgement to be published in TDSAT website before making final comment. At the outset, the Tdsat bench admitted it had not been able to deliver judgement for several reasons. "One of these being long arguments and a clarification sought for subsequently by us with regard to inter alia, the applicability of Section 11(1)(B )(iv) vis-a-vis Section 11(2) of the Trai Act and also due to non-filing of Written Statements by some of the counsel in time," it said. The reason given by Jury for taking 91 days to pass a judgement after the completion of arguments is totally childish and unacceptable. The Judgement requesting TRAI to restart the process again and also the needless time which Jury took to deliver the verdict clearly indicates that the only intention of the Jury is to delay the pro-consumer move as much as possible. It clearly shows the link between TDSAT and Corporates(read as broadcasters). TDSAT has proved again it is the procrastinating channel for corporates. It's time for supreme court intervene effectively and meaningfully to dismantle this kind of nexus between corporates(read as broadcasters) and Judiciary. SC should review the functioning of its proxy arms like TDSAT at-least every quarter to weed out any unwanted elements to protect the faith in Judiciary.

You can also think about this... http://www.olivetelecom.in/olive-nexus-vr9-wireless-router/ But if you ask me for opinion, my preference is with A device which gives inter-interoperability at SIM level rather than at USB modem level. Why should I pay for 2 devices when 1 device can accomplish the job? Only one issue with this device at the moment is it supports only GSM & HSDPA . It does not support 1x, EVDO, LTE or WiMAX.

Great news to hear that MTS is penetrating to even smaller towns.... I'm really happy for small-town people who are going to taste mobile broadband for the first time in their lovely little towns ..... Hope it'll help them in a small way to continue their life in their lovely towns rather than being forced to go pollution prone mega cities for their livelihood..... Although I live in Metro and shuttle between metros, my love for small towns and villages of India is unfading from childhood.
