  1. My dear friend, (1) SWAN's ownership -- It's purely RCOM's issue and the ownership/eligibility issue is not only with Swan but it's there with close to 85 applicants. DoT never verified the documents at granting stage in the past and it followed the same in this case. DoT has right to cancel the license at any time if it finds documents submitted at granting stage is wrong. Normally it assumed that this right will act as deterrence for any company to submit false material. It's not in spirit of equality and justice to single out Swan. But I personally agree that DoT should and must have verified at the granting stage since such verification could have helped eligible applicants waiting in the queue from getting spectrum. (2) S-Tel arm-twisting -- It didn't had any effect since SC has ruled against DoT on the case. SC ruling had not changed anything in the queue other than extending the queue further. Change in cut-off date should not have happened in the first place but basically it had been done to cut the length of the queue as a knee-jerk reaction on seeing heavy spurt in application. (3)Dual Technology -- Technology neutrality is the principle on which our entire telecom growth is built on. TRAI has recommended strongly for Multi-Tech operators since It believes regulator/licensor should never control technology. Each and every sensible telecom expert forever has recommended for it. It's absolute stupidity to question allowing dual-technology operations. Nobody ever stopped any GSM operator from applying for CDMA spectrum through dual-tech mode and hence vice-versa. By looking at the points (1) & (2), it clearly shows the incompetence of the minister but it never cast any shadow of malpractice of the minister. As I say again Mr. Raja is incompetent to handle such a litigation-prone and dynamic portfolio like Telecom but I never agree that he had involved in any sort of scam as highlighted by paid-unethical media. Let us wait ....Let us wait....... We'll see the truth at the end of investigations from different agencies that too monitored by none other than SC.

  4. The defense put out by Vir and Barkha are identical(exact copy-cat) and ridiculous. "It's part of journalism...,I'm not lobbying....., I've reported lot many times against Raja....I've not met Raja..." It clearly shows nexus between these "journalistic" culprits. If you play these tapes even to KG student, the kid can make out what is the purpose of the conversation. Is it for journalism that you try to fix a minister? Is it for journalism that you develop such a nexus with known lobbyist? Is it for journalism that you speak to people in Congress on DMK's portfolios? Come On !! Do they think entire country is filled with empty heads???? Contention that "I've carried reports against Raja, so I could not have lobbied for Raja" is foolish defense. We'll know through tapes that you've lobbied for Raja only for the sake of Radia(read as TATA). We'll know that you don't have love for Raja but only love for Radia. Why can't it be possible you switched sides immediately after government formation? Why can't it be possible that you started hating Radia since she has not "paid enough" for your "journalistic task"? Why can't it be possible that you carried reports against Raja for your next "journalistic task" from different(anti-Raja) camp? I absolutely doubt there must have been something done as quid-pro-quo for these journalists' "sincere" work. Let us hope it'll come out one day or the other. Let us always trust in the power of truth.
  5. 2G scam: No reason for govt to reject JPC demand, says Advani source :: http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/2G-scam-No-reason-for-govt-to-reject-JPC-demand-says-Advani/articleshow/7011001.cms It's absolutely ridiculous and senseless on the part of BJP to demand JPC on this matter. When it still does pooja for the father of corruption Mr. Yeddyurappa in Karnataka, it doesn't have any moral rights to speak on notional allegation against Mr. Raja. Mr. Yeddyurappa's corruption is proven by himself by returning lands from his son back to Govt. In contrast none of the investigating agencies have any proof of the involvement of Mr. Raja in any scam till date. All the allegations have been in the air and only they've hypothetical numbers. Let BJP cleans up its own mess before shedding crocodile tears...

Vodafone lashes out on spectrum hoarding charge RCom endorses Ratan Tata’s views source:: http://www.business-standard.com/india/news/vodafone-lashes-outspectrum-hoarding-charge/416634/ Looks like another round of war has started....Let us hope this war will catch up in the 3G segment too so that we'll have affordable 3G tariff....

  10. No....Mumbai & Maharastra does not have unified license so no problem. Same applies to Kolkata & West Bengal.
  11. But Kumar sir, TN and Chennai was made single circle long ago and I have seen posts of Kesav in old MNP thread that "DoT has got back the extra LRN (or whatever) number from BSNL and TataIndicom, so that Chennai and RoTN users will have same LRN number".. If that is the case, MNP launching date for both Chennai and RoTN should be same, right??? Or I am missing something??? Dear Friends, It's bit tricky situation in Tamilnadu. As for as the tariff is concerned, it's mandatory that tariff should be like a unified circle. This fact is known to everyone. But license-wise, There are 2 different types of operators in Chennai & RoTN (1) Operators who work in unified license -- BSNL, TTSL(Indicom+Docomo), Idea, Videocon, Unior etc.,(sorry..I don't have complete list) (2) Operators who work in 2 different licences for Chennai & RoTN separately -- Aircel, Airtel, Vodafone etc.,(sorry...I don't have complete list). You might have noticed roaming symbol for these operators when you move to Chennai from RoTN or vice-versa. According to DoT, RoTN number can be shifted only to another RoTN/Unified license holder. Chennai number can be shifted only to another Chennai/Unified license holder. Unified number can be shifted to another Chennai/RoTN/Unified license holder. To given an idea on what is not possible, Chennai Aircel number cannot be shifted to RoTN Airtel. But whether phone works in RoTN Airtel or Chennai Airtel is going to have no difference for the subscriber.

  14. Govt offers ethics panel probe to break House logjam source :: http://indiatoday.intoday.in/site/Story/121363/India/govt-offers-ethics-panel-probe-to-break-house-logjam.html Let us hope that opposition will see the good gesture from Govt. and agree to run the parliament. Let opposition allow agree to PAC to do its job. It can also agree for privilege/Ethics committee. This is one of the rarest of the governments ever existed in India where Govt. has acted against ministers (Sashi Tharoor, A. Raja)even before they were proved wrong. To be more precise, recent emerging indications are clearly showing that Mr. Raja has been used as a pawn in telecom corporate scam rather than he being any wrong doer. Opposition should not assume that they can demand anything under the roof and run the govt. on their own. Absolutely opposition don't have any mandate to run the current government and let them be very and very clear of this point. They have to be also driven home clear of the point that "JPC cannot be accepted until all the constitutional institutes(inc SC, PAC) complete their tasks". It's time for the Govt. to puts its feet down very strongly if needed evict entire opposition out and run the parliament. Govt. should not budge for this kind of political hooliganism in the shrine of democracy. It's Govt.'s duty to protect the functions of different constitutional institutions from being diluted for some opposition leaders' egos. Let us hope senior leaders in opposition parties will see deeper through the issue to understand the merits and advice their hooligan younger lot to behave ethically.
  15. After the success of TATA Photon+ WiFi, now TATA launches TATA photon+ Music Below is the lead capturing site for tata photon+ music. http://www.tataphoton.com/photon-mp3.aspx This device is a combination of Pen Drive(has capability to handle upto 32 GB microSD), FM Radio, EVDO Rev.A modem, MP3 Player and Voice Recorder(to record external voice). I think this is earlier announced Olive Genie V-ME150. Somewhere I read this modem can also be used to make voice calls when connected to laptop which is unheard of in the EVDO Rev. A USB modems.
  16. TRAI seeks transfer of TDSAT jurisdiction dispute to SC source :: http://www.lawetalnews.com/NewsDetail.asp?newsid=2888 A very valid contention by TRAI. TRAI's regulations are like legislations. Legislations cannot be contested in judicial institutes unless it infringes upon fundamental rights and constitution. TDSAT can only interpret TRAI's regulations to address the grievance of an applicant and cannot nullify regulations itself. The powers of TDSAT and TRAI in telecom domain are analogous to the powers of Supreme Court and Parliament in national domain. TRAI's regulations can only be changed/challenged in another superior legislative body called Parliament and not in any judicial institutes.

  19. Bring in an auditor and probe 2G scam, says Ratan Tata source :: http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/Bring-in-an-auditor-and-probe-2G-scam-says-Ratan-Tata/articleshow/6997365.cms The following statement is in obvious reference to Mr. Raja. "Stop this sort of banana republic kind of attacks on whoever one chooses to attack on a basis unsubstantiated, even before the person has in, what I consider, every Indian's right namely to be considered innocent, until found guilty in a court of law, not on the street, not in this way." Mr. Raja can feel bit happy during these trying times that someone like Mr. TATA is in support of him. Let us hope that he proves in the court of law that he deserves this trust from none other than Ratan TATA . I'm very happy that TATA had guts to take this stand against public opinion(which is driven by unpatriotic paid media). If he had spoken few days back on "innocence and guilty", I would have respected him more. This speech comes only after his company got bad press due to leaked tapes.
  20. Dear Karthik, MNP operator has their own infrastructure which is different from mobile operator. In my post, I said MNP operator will issue only mobile number without service so there's no question of MNP operator talking about any offers or schemes to subscriber. Subscriber has to approach the mobile operator of his liking for provisioning of service after he gets the number from MNP operator.
  21. Just I had a spark. Thought of sharing with you guys to get feedback. Why can't we move the functions of mobile number allocation and user verification to MNP operators? (1) New subscriber has to get the mobile number from their zonal MNP operator (2) MNP operator to verify the documents and allot the number (3) Thus alloted number to be provided to the service provider for programming on to their virgin SIM (4) DoT has to deal only with 2 MNP operators for user verification instead of dealing with 20 mobile operators nation-wide (5) Changing mobile operator will become very easy since there'll be no need for user verification by recipient mobile operator (6) Mobile numbers which are national resources will not get unnecessarily wasted due to fake activations and fake reporting by mobile operators There'll be a mammoth initial step of moving all currently active subscribers' documents & information to MNP operators' database and storage space. It can also be done effectively if we go for standardized scanning of all documents & photographs and moving only the electronic data to the MNP operator. I feel it's a worthy step forward.
  22. No No.... 20.1.2011 is the date on which 22nd circle will get MNP. MNP will be introduced circle by circle every alternate working day. May be we'll get the time table from DoT/TRAI today. source :: http://telecomtalk.info/mobile-number-portability-launched-in-haryana-pan-india-by-january-20/49150/
  23. I was just wondering if not for freedom of internet, the whole scandal by these journalists might have been completely wrapped under carpet by close-knit media houses. Till today no media has guts to report this media scandal of the millennium....Just astonishing...... Long live Internet !!

(1) No slippage in the date of 20.1.2011 for pan-India roll-out (2) Inter-circle MNP within this fiscal(31.3.2011)
