Tata Docomo Revises 3G Data Offerings
kesav replied to nayasaroj's topic in Other Network / Cellular Providers
It's theoretical peak value similar to 3.1 Mbps in EVDO Rev. A You can reach that value under ideal environmental conditions like you're the only subscriber connected to the BTS, standing near the BTS, atmosphere is clean and calm(wrt electromagnetism). Average value will reach around 80% of the speed at the maximum. -

Telcordia Tech secures FIPB nod to manage mobile number portability source :: http://www.financialexpress.com/news/Telcordia-Tech-secures-FIPB-nod-to-manage-mobile-number-portability/707897/ It's one of the positive news which I've ever posted or read in always dark(filled with cynical and pessimistic posts) MNP thread. It's really a great news for east and south India who will come under Telcordia. :cheer: -

Very good find my dear friend. Everyone here in Rimweb are aware about only intra-circle MNP. This is really very interesting news and let us pray it to be true. -
BSNL Unions blame Western vendors for derailing mobile rollout source :: http://telecomtiger.com/PolicyNRegulation_fullstory.aspx?passfrom=breakingnews&storyid=10200§ion=S174 This is absolute truth. Anybody who has observed Indian Telecom sector for last 2-3 years very closely can easily vouch for this statement by BSNL unions. I seriously feel that there is formation of clique among Western vendors (read as NSN, Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson)and GSM biggies(read as Airtel,Vodafone & Idea) to thwart competition. Since both GSM biggies(vs dual-tech operators&newbies) and Western vendors(vs Chinese vendors) are losing their own battle field, it's quite natural and conducive for formation of this clique. This clique always plays the foul game in court rooms(getting adjournments after adjournments) and through paid media campaigns. Everything which is competitive(BSNL/MTNL tenders, TRAI orders/recommendations, DoT's orders/regulations, DoT's security guidelines and so on...) is litigated by this group. Their sole purpose is not to win these litigations but to delay the date of implementations. This clique is very successful(through money power) in planting stories in media to their advantage and generating wave against competitors, regulators and Govt. Hope PM will see this issue with utmost importance it deserves. This cartel has already grown to the level of banyan. Let us hope PM will try to sow the seeds of future telecom growth away from shades of this banyan so that those seeds can germinate and flourish further. Last but not the least, although I'm totally aginst the way BSNL functions today(bureaucratic, lethargic) but this letter to PM is timely and straight on to the truth.

BSNL Unions writes to Prime Minister blaming Western Vendors for derailing mobile rollout
kesav replied to kesav's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
Another exhaustive article on the same topic. BSNL unions allege cartel play by gear cos source :: http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/news-by-industry/telecom/BSNL-unions-allege-cartel-play-by-gear-cos/articleshow/6868589.cms -
I think you've missed something while reading the site. Each basic package has close to 100 channels. While reading basic package, you've to read category-wise by selecting drop-down list..Each category has around 2-17 channels. May be you've read only telugu category in telugu value pack. Kindly read all the categories in telugu value pack and I hope you may end up having different opinion.

Expectedly Big 3 of GSM opt for 3G strategic intra-circle roaming alliance
kesav replied to ravi_patent's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
This means Orissa is the luckiest state for having true competitors(Aircel,Reliance & Stel) in the fray. -
Absolutely...There should be no forcing but there should be heavy promotion and campaign to persuade members to vote.

TATA Docomo Launch 3G Services on Diwali
kesav replied to rahulmalik_81's topic in Other Network / Cellular Providers
source :: http://www.developingtelecoms.com/tata-switches-on-pioneering-3g-network-in-india-as-bsnl-claims-sabotage.html This is exactly what I've expected since deploying GSM-3G in meaningful manner(without creating patches of no-singal zone) is quite costly proposition due to requirement of more towers and completely new hardware in comparison to GSM-2G. This is best an operator can do if an operator cares for quality of service. It took BSNL more than 1 year to cover 675 cities/towns that too in patchy manner. -
Dear Arun, My sincere request to you to add Rajan Mehta in the list. Since he'll be reluctant to add his own name, you can render that help. It's my presonal opinion and hope most members share the same. It's very good suggestion like pop-up on the www.rimweb.in/forums/ giving an option to enter forum directly or to poll thread. I also request count-down(like 10 days left) to run on the main page and poll-page so members will be aware about the closing days which is critical for these kind of polls. Dear Friends, Please hold on. Normally these type of polls will hot up only towards the closing days because members will be in dilemma to cast their vote and they may need more time to make up their mind. Let us trust our members and respect their time to come to a conclusion. We should leave no stone unturned to reach out to our members.

Looks like SUN Direct is aware of the judgement in advance. SUN Direct has completely revamped its packages in tune with TRAI's following orders. (1) Basic package not to exceed Rs. 150 + tax (2) All channels to be provided in A-la-carte basis SUN Direct's basic packages are now at the following rates. (1) Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam Value packs at Rs. 99 + tax /month (2) INDI pack at Rs. 145 + tax /month (3) Value pack(ROI) at Rs. 120 + tax /month (4) Value+ pack(ROI) at Rs. 132 + tax /month All the channels which are not covered by all the basic packs above is provided in A-la-carte basis. Kudos to SUN Direct for becoming the first and only operator to provide all the channels A-la-carte basis. Just pay for what you watch.  http://sundirect.in/packages.php

Mobile Number Portability service from November 25
kesav replied to Arun's topic in Mobile Number Portability (MNP)
This is what exactly I'm expecting out of the cartel(Airtel, Vodafone & Idea). They're feeling fire under belly that too with DOCOMO 3G launch. The reasons given out by them as quoted in the article is quite flimsy and totally ridiculous. Hope DoT is not so insane to accpet these idiotic reasons. Read this topic to know how same cartel is working against BSNL roll-out as reported to Prime Minister by its unions.
