  3. RIMweb.in Member Of The Year - 2010

@Rajan Mehta, My vote is for Arun whether he's in the list or not. IMHO, I feel you deserve to be in the list along with Greatest, Raccoon, Kangadeepan & Karthik R to name a few. You might have had discussion with other people before arriving at this list. I always feel collective wisdom is better than individual's and I respect that. I request fellow members not to get dejected for not finding their favourite in this list but please try to choose one from this elite list(since each member listed certainly deserve their place). To be honest, most of the time I never look at name of poster unless the content is so thought-provoking and concluding. Had I been intimated at the begining of the year that this contest is going to happen then I could have archived lovely posts in my PC and made effort to see the name of the poster now and then and cast the vote to more deserving candidate. My current vote can only be based on current memory which I'm sure doesn't have storage of lovely posts earlier than 4 months from now. At the best it can choose only the Rimweb member of this quarter.

  9. I completely agree with overlapping issue but we've to live with it till actual 3G CDMA spectrum in 1900 MHz is auctioned by Govt. Telecom minister is pursuing that matter seriously. Let us hope for the best. I always love to learn from each other and your posts are generally embedded with tech stuffs and I learn lot from it.
  10. Dear Hetal, Let me put the things in correct perspective. No Rev. B hardware is wrong since Rev. B is already live in Indonesia with Smart Telecom and in Pakistan with PTCL. On the spectrum side, For easy understanding, we can dicard "2*" because since we're talking about downlink in particular although frequency allocation for all FDD technologies happens in "2*" mode. CDMA frequencies are allocated carrier wise. Each carrier is 1.25 MHz. Initial allocation starts with 2 carriers i.e 2.5 MHz and then one carrier will be added depending on increase in subscriber base. Hence it'll be 2.5 then 3.75 then 5 and so on. As per current allocation methodology, each CDMA operator is contractually permitted to receive till 5 MHz without any additional charge. At 5 MHz, the operator has 4 carriers in hand. so he can use one carrier for voice and the rest for data. If the voice subscriber number is high he can use 2 carrier for voice and 2 carrier for data. On 2-carrier data EVDO Rev.B can give 7.2 Mbps and on 3-carrier data EVDO Rev. B can give 14.7 Mbps. Hope it clarifies....
  11. My dear friend,Don't get confused between daily packs(I prefer to call it as day packs) and daily rental packs. Daily packs(instead it should be called as day packs) are targeted for emergency purposes where you want a facility only for that particular day. Don't calibrate daily packs(or day packs) for more than 6 days because it's not meant for that purpose. For 7 days and more, you've weekly packs and then monthly packs which you subscribe for. TATA Docomo is the pioneer in day packs and not Uninor. May be now, Uninor have better day packs. Thanks for highlighting. Daily rental packs are something where Rs.1 will be deducted from your account everyday till you unsubscribe it. Those daily rental packs are total flop in the industry because it's like leakage in your prepaid account. TATA Indicom was pioneer in daily rental packs but I think now they've withdrawn completely due its failure. I'll never recommend daily rental packs to anyone since I've suffered from it.

  13. Till date, only Reliance through their website has revealed what version of HSDPA they're planing to deploy. TATA Docomo and Airtel have kept their version(read as Speed) of HSDPA under wraps may be for strategic reasons. With 2*5 MHz, best version which can be deployed without going for MIMO is release 7 category 14 (HSPA+ version) which can give upto 21.1 Mbps in downlink. It's heartening to note that Reliance is going for the best possible one. Reliance was bold enough to declare that in their website beacause other operators cannot surpass this speed unless they go for MIMO. Way to go Reliance.
  14. your point 1 is truly valid(especially in Indian context) and profound. Thanks....
  15. What is wrong in doing immediately? One's investment is going to be Rs. 19 at the max. One's worst case scenerio is one has remain with old operator. It's not like new technology or new service which is going to affect individual economically or emotionally for making bad choice. In such cases, we can wait for feedback but not for these kind of simple and known outcome service.
  16. MTS already has 2*2.5 MHz of start-up spectrum and they'll get till 2*5 MHz contractual obligation spectrum without any extra fee. They're going to use only 2G spectrum for 3G operations so no worry for them on spectrum cost. Regarding handsets and modems, they might have already worked out the plan. Anyway Rev.B is already live in Indonesia, a country which has similar user profile and per capita income like India. so MTS can leverage that experience and ecosystem.
  17. But 3G can never match 4G. Obviously, customers will go mad about 4G on launch.
  18. Vote For Narayanan Krishnan

Voted !! I've read about him in the past but I was not aware he was shortlisted in the CNN Heroes. Thanks a lot for higlighting.
  19. Inorder to withstand the storm of MTS MBLAZE, TATA responds with reduced tariff. Volume(GB) -- MTS -- TATA 1 -- 598 -- 606.65(550+tax) 2 -- 698 -- 716.95(650+tax) 3 -- 798 -- 716.95(650+tax) 10 -- 1050 -- 992.70(900+tax) 15 -- 1500 -- 1433.90(1300+tax) Still below 3 GB, MTS scores well. On and above 3 GB, TATA wins Due to the onslaught of MTS MBLAZE 999 unlimited, TATA was forced to introduce 3 unlimited plans FUP limit(GB) -- MTS -- TATA 5 -- NA -- 827.25(750+tax) 10 -- NA -- 992.70(900+tax) 15 -- 999 -- 1433.90(1300+tax) In this unlimited segment, TATA fades infront of MTS. There's no clarity whether this reduction in tariff by TATA is applicable to existing customers. http://www.tataphoton.com/tata-photon-usb.aspx
