  1. I plead again to differ.... Normally keys are generated by centralized agency(Certificate Authority). Each key pair should be unique within CA's domain. Private key is private to individual and the CA and not private only to the individual. Public key is available freely for all online users. "certificate" is just nothing but website's public key. While discussing topic, I request you folks not be emotional but be little pragmatic. Rome was not built in a day. No single step in the world would ever solve terrorism. Each single step like this is like a brick in a security fort. There's no purpose in building a fort with cavities of convenience embedded all over. Just think...as a lawful citizen, why it matters whether you're monitored or not as long as your message reaches destination..... For legal corporates, why it matters if only Govt. can smell it and not by competitors? Certainly BB matter doesn't require this much public space. Allow Govt. to do it job sincerely and silently.
  2. Although the news is good but I would have welcomed the immediate ban. When Govt. can stop all the chinese telecom equipments import for security reasons without even talking to them for solutions, why they can't stop this miniscule and non-mass services like BES for security reason? Why Govt. provide RIM one more chance? Is it because RIM from west? Come on guys, we've got freedom 60 years back. Shake away "west is best" mentality. For sure, they'll come back with another story for not providing live access on the eve of another 60 days? It's really perplexing to understand the reason behind this partiality? Govt. requirement is plain and simple. Provide hard real time access to any traffic in non-encrypted form in the network. End of the story. It's thing between telecom operators and application providers to come up with a solution. Govt. has nothing to do in this matter. No....Basic monitoring is on the traffic based on the targeted devices. To put it simply any traffic to and fro from your device is visible for security agent. RIM(say Blackberry) is dragging its feet unnecessarily for too long and too far. It's time that it's slapped heavily on its face sooner than later. It'll be a lesson for all western companies who are trying to influence Indian Govt. decision through their govts. and their trade lobbies. Saying security keys are not with them is a shame. Everybody who is aware of the encryption knows public key and private key are generated simultaneously by key issuing agencies and hence they should be having it. Govt. is the final authority in any society. There can be certain legal things which can be accessible only by certain legal persons in Govt but there cannot be anything legal which cannot be accessed by none in the Govt.
  3. The revised LRN were allocated for the purpose of MNP. Accidentely they've been allocated double LRN for TTSL in Tamilnadu & Chennai separately although TTSL works under unified Tamilnadu licenese. Now DoT cancels one set which signifies that the things are in progress for MNP and someone might have higlighted this issue to DoT while doing work on MNP.
  4. It's similar to corporate connections with CUG. Nothing special.
  5. DoT instructs all the BTS installed before 18.05.2010 must be self-certified by 15.11.2010. DoT has relaxed the clause of submitting layout and photograph of sites for the first submission on 15.11.2010. However, in the next annual sbumission which is due on 15.11.2011, all sites' layout and photograph must reach DoT. BTS installed on or after 18.05.2010 must be self-certified before radiating. DoT says BSNL/MTNL will not have any special treatment. http://dot.gov.in/as/MNP/MNP_27.08.2010.pdf Kudos to DoT for following up the matter with seriousness.
  6. Looks like DoT is moving with the spirit to ensure that MNP is implemented by 31st October 2010 without fail. Please find the order below which mentions the withdrawal of 2nd LRN allocated to TATA in TN circle for implementing MNP. http://dot.gov.in/as/MNP/MNP_25.08.2010.pdf Let us cheer together DoT in this pro-consumer marathon so that it completes it on due date. Come On DoT Come On RUN RUN RUN
  7. The following is just my opinion, I request OMH experts in the forum to correct me if I'm wrong. "EVDO signal bar in the Samsung Corpy Speed will show up if any type of RUIM(either OMH or non-OMH) is inserted and the corresponding operator has EVDO coverage. But EVDO will work only if the OMH RUIM is inserted"
  8. Let MNP chips in, we'll see whether these biggies can remain as "biggies". Certainly there'll be a change in the position of the operators. These statements by "biggies" is surely based on fear of losing customers once MNP comes to force. Let me through you a small example on impact of MNP. There are 1000 vodafone connections in my area in which call between those connections are free but with others they're charged 40p/min. Now, Those 1000 connections are going to be transferred to Aircel on the next day of MNP implementation with charges to other being 30p/min. The deal is already clinched with Aircel with all the porting charges to be borne by Aircel.
  9. Let us know whether you've "OMH" logo (Diamond) on the RUIM?
  10. In yet another surprising move, BSNL has introduced different data plans for EVDO prepaid. Fantastic Fantastic Fantastic  500 MB --> Rs. 150 1 GB --> Rs. 250 2.5 GB --> Rs. 500 Unlimited --> Rs. 750 The above rates are cheaper than their own postpaid rates........... http://bsnl.co.in/service/internet_on_cdma.htm# Why on earth they're not advertising such pro-consumer moves widely?
  11. Now BSNL prepaid EVDO RUIM is available in TN. http://tamilnadu.bsnl.co.in/Content_evdoprepaid.pdf
  12. Is Anil Ambani still sleeping???? :confuse:

  14. Television Orders - TRAI

Cap on broadcast tariffs effective from Oct 1, not Sept 1:TRAI Earlier TRAI has made a notification that the cap will be effective from September 1, 2010 source :: http://www.governancenow.com/gov-next/egov/cap-broadcast-tariffs-effective-oct-1-not-sept-1trai It's really a sad news. :'( :'( :'( Hope TDSAT will instruct TRAI to implement the rules which are not contested effective from 1st September 2010. Looking into the seriousness of the issue and its huge positive effect on customer's choice, TDSAT should give the judgement ASAP in favour of TRAI.
  15. Samsung launches Muzik 219 (Rs 3,599) and Duos 259 (Rs 8,350) along with Corby Speed. All are OMH handsets Duos 259 (dual standby CDMA+GSM) is the successor for Duos Touch source :: http://www.expressbuzz.com/edition/story.aspx?Title=Samsung+eyes+30%+growth+in+CDMA+sales&artid=0AkQlvYxt9s=&SectionID=XT7e3Zkr/lw=&MainSectionID=XT7e3Zkr/lw=&SectionName=HFdYSiSIflu29kcfsoAfeg==&SEO=
  16. A very good move by MHA. There can not be even a 1% compromise on security. Monitoring should be hard real time and flexible(to add & delete the currently tapped devices on real time basis). Only security agencies should make the final call on whether solution provided is satisfactory or not.
  17. Currently MTS has EVDO Rev A coverage in 74 cities/towns which is more than TATA or Reliance. http://www.mtsindia.in/MBlaze/mts-coverge.html

  20. Television Orders - TRAI

1st September 2010 is fast approaching. Citizens in CAS area (with settop box) and IPTV customers will be the first one to bear the fruits of A-la-Carte pricing of channels by 1st Sep 2010. Hope few people in the forum will be of that category. I wish one of them can share their happy moments in the mid of september so that DTH customers can get glimpse of what they will get by 1st Jan 2011.
  21. DoT re-emphasize that the last date of compliance is 15.11.2010. Towers for which self-certification is not avilable at DoT by 15.11.2010 will face penalty as outlined. http://dot.gov.in/as/2010/as_13.08.2010.pdf
  22. Very good answer Deepan. One correction. Those packs(256 MB, 1 GB, 2GB) introduced with OMH RUIMs can be used for both mobile internet and mobile tethering with any EVDO handsets. Now my question is little bit more critical. When TATA can make common plans for mobile internet and mobile tethering in EVDO segment, why can't it make the same in CDMA 1X segment.
  23. postpaid BSNL EVDO RUIM http://tamilnadu.bsnl.co.in/Content_EVDO_Postpaid750.pdf
  24. +1 for you Sougata Dhar. One important question to all forum members. Why alone in CDMA there is differential tariff for mobile internet and mobile tethering? After all, In either cases, volume consumed in KB is the load generated by the device on the operator's network. :confuse:
  25. That's really interesting. http://www.tataphoton.com/tata-photon-on-mobile.aspx Rs. 110 for 256 MB, Rs. 320 for 1 GB and Rs.550 for 2 GB It's not just special offer but a permanent one. This tariff is well below MTS MBLAZE tariff. So it means TATA Photon+ through tethering Mobile is cheaper than USB modem tariff. TATA is inducing us to buy our own handsets and use just their OMH SIM instead of buying their Photon+ USB Modems.
