Tata Tele Introduces Photon Wi-Fi Pocket Router At Rs.4999
kesav replied to Mukeshlst's topic in Other Network / Cellular Providers
It's a nice device for the home where TATA's signal is weak. It can be parked somewhere in the top of shelf at the remote corner of the home. Laptops can be hooked on to it through Wi-Fi. Here's the official link. http://www.tataphoton.com/tata-photon-wi-fi.aspx Had it been integrated with femto-cell, it would have been a wise decision to improve cellular indoor coverage. Anyway, India is lagging in the technology adaptation. We've to be satisifed with what have been offered. -

kesav replied to kesav's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
60 MHz in 2.5 GHz spectrum available with Devas. There are now 2 possibilities. 1) If the deal is absolutely legal, Devas can start WiMax service 2) If law ministry concludes that the deal as illegal, 60 MHz in 2.5 GHz is available for auction Great News !!  -
BlackBerry, Skype, Gmail and now 3G come under the scanner of Indian Government
kesav replied to faizone's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
Launch 3G services only if they can be monitored: Home Ministry A very good by Home Ministry. It's better to stop the service at start if it cannot be intercepted rather than stopping it after it has reached few million. Hope all the operators will install necessary equipments to allow proper and meaningful interceptions before the start of any applications. Blackberry(RIM) is unnecessarily dragging its feet too long. When it can comply with US,CANADA, Saudi Arabia rules, it must comply with Indian security rules. Come on my dear friends, interceptions cannot stop terrorism completely but it'll certainly work as deterrence. There exist nothing called zero terrorism but humanity should always move towards and aim at it. -
India Bans Chinese Mobile Phone Imports
kesav replied to faizone's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
China telecom vendors ready to comply with norms Good move by ZTE. Hope Huawei will follow suit. This will create immense pressure on NSN, Ericsson and Alcatel-Lucent. I've seen in the last week, western vendors were exerting undue pressure on Indian Govt. through their lobbying channels in their respective Govts. -
That's quite common in India, Whenever Regulator makes pro-consumer move, corporates will move to court to buy time. It's time for Judiciary(read it as TDSAT/High Court/Supreme Court) to dismiss petitions from corporates if it's applied after 5 days from the date of issuance of respective orders from Regulator. 5 days is more than sufficient for corporates to frame their arguments if any. Petitioning just 2 days before the date on which orders come to force is just obnoxious. It's done only with agenda of delaying the date of implementation. It has to be dealt with seriously by the Judiciary.

1st September 2010 is fast approaching. Till date, there is no list of channels along with their A-la-Carte pricing in any of the Broadcasters' websites. Hope TRAI is vigilant and monitoring the progress....

Dot Rings Mobile Number Portability

If that's the case, Why can't DoT make decisions public? Let them announce officially that MITSI's license is revoked and Syniverse is the pan-India MNP service provider. It'll make all the stakeholders(read as Telecom Operators, NLD & ILD service providers) clear of whom they've to interconnect with. We don't want to hear the story on 31st October 2010 that says "some operators in southern and eastern states have connected to MITSI and other operators in southern and eastern states have connected to Syniverse due to which we postpone MNP for another 3 months" Why the hell MHA is sitting on this Telcordia issue for such a llooooooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnngggggggggggg time? Why can't DoT sit with MHA and Law ministry to close Telcordia issue once for all? -

DoT releases comprehensive regulations in addressing security issues arising out telecom infrastructure deployment. http://dot.gov.in/vacancies/2010/Director%20HRD.pdf http://dot.gov.in/as/2010/template%20forwarding.pdf http://dot.gov.in/as/2010/Template%20agreement%20%20DOT%20280710.doc In the list of testing agencies published, one is from Taiwan to keep the things neutral. Hope the things will be normal now and service providers can start expanding their infrastructure. Kudos to DoT  -
Subscriber Additions And Statistics For The Month Of June Subscriber base data as on 30th June 2010. The overall teledensity is at 56.83 source:: http://www.trai.gov.in/WriteReadData/trai/upload/PressReleases/746/PressRelease23july.pdf Key Changes 1) Vodafone truly becomes 3rd largest operator overtaking PSUs(BSNL+MTNL) 2) Unitech's wireless addition for month of June is more than BSNL's wireless addition. It really highlights the poor state of BSNL Forecasts for month of July 1) TATA will overtake BSNL in terms of wireless users

No....It applies for all addressable sytems irrespective of CAS or non-CAS areas. Obviously CAS areas will only have addressable systems.

All latest chipsets from Qualcomm by default has OMH support inbuilt. It's just a matter of enabling this function by handset manufacturers. Irrespective of whether other global operators go for OMH or not , OMH is the future and it can't be reversed.

Dear Friends, Everybody in the world knows CDMA was better technology(in spectrum efficiency wise, quality of voice wise) than GSM. Inspite of inherent advantages it has failed mainly due to 3 key factors. 1) Europe's blanket ban on CDMA --> Certainly it's done to support European companies like Nokia, NSN, Ericsson, Alcatel-Lucent etc., 2) Greediness of handset manufacturers --> why can't they pay just 4% to the company which has incubated and grown a technology like growing a seedling? 3) Nokia's greediness and its fight with Qualcomm Handset manufacturers(other than chinese) clearly price the CDMA phones exhorbitantly high(not proportional to royalty) than GSM phones to ensure that the perception of "CDMA phones being costlier than GSM" remains in the mind of people.

It's horrible news for the citizens if its true. Why the hell MHA is sitting on this matter for more than 2 years (time at which Telcordia came to picture)? Do they think that citizens can be fooled by quoting security reasons? Let CBI investigate whether incumbents(like Airtel, Vodafone, Idea etc.,) have paid in ransom to officials in MHA. -
Patents are like one time investment(do-it-forget-it) but continuous down-pour of revenue. If your idea is not patented, somebody else will patent that idea and you'll be paying royalty to someone for your own idea. Indian corporates who want to become global have to learn how to capture ideas and monetize it before it reaches competitor's radar. CDMA's failure is more to do with Europe's ban on CDMA and Nokia's inflexibility(read as greediness). Qualcomm's excessive royalty is also one of the contributing factor but certainly not the key factor. Let us be clear. CDMA phones are the cheapest inspite of globally having less market size and royalty. Royalty forms very meagre portion of the total cost of handset.

A very nice article on Qualcomm....................... What patents can do? Qualcomm is an answer. Atleast now, Indian companies/individuals will focus on filing and protecting their IPRs. Govt. should adequately and appropriately staff all our patent offices.

Tata quits COAI; says lobby favours only few big, old players source:: http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/news-by-industry/telecom/Tatas-quits-COAI-says-lobby-favours-only-few-big-old-players/articleshow/6158595.cms A very good move by TTSL. COAI is a cartel(read as Airtel,Vodafone & Idea) controlled association and its disintegration to void is an already known fact. It's better for other operators like Aircel, Loop Telecom and Etisalat to quit as soon as possible rather than being bullied by Cartel.

Approach TRAI to surrender 2G: Raja source:: http://www.hindu.com/2010/07/11/stories/2010071156151000.htm It's important that TRAI formulates policy guidelines for the return of spectrum if the operator does not need it or operator not able to use it efficiently as per TRAI standards. Spectrum is a vital natural national resource and it should be easily transferable to the nation's pool and it should not be captive at the hands of operators who cannot use it efficiently.

Reliance Jio - Pan India 4G / LTE network
kesav replied to Arun's topic in Reliance Jio 4G LTE (Prepaid & Postpaid)
The following could be one of the best ways for Mukesh Ambani to move forward 1) Convert ISP A license to UASL license(without bundling spectrum) --> It'll ensure Infotel can launch voice services immediately on their own spectrum 2) Launch nationwide wireless IPTV services with femto-cell integrated set-top boxes --> DTH is a hot thing right now. IPTV being superior platform can deliver more HD channels with unimaginably superior realtime interactive features --> Integrated femto-cells will ensure each household which has set-top box to be acting like a micro tower for superior indoor coverage --> Thus implanted femtocells can be leveraged when Infotel launches 4G-based handsets 3) Lure the customers with triple-play services --> Nothing can be as luring as having a set-top box working as WiFi modem and as micro tower for consumer's mobile's indoor coverage --> Nothing can be as luring as having single bill covering your TV channels, mobiles and internet 4) Launch 4G in full scale as soon as 4G handsets are available in mass market
