  1. Telcos can buy Chinese gear on security check source:: http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/News/News-By-Industry/Telecom/Telcos-can-buy-Chinese-gear-on-security-check/articleshow/6000948.cms?curpg=1 Great Great relief for Indian Telecom Sector. It's bit perplexing for me to understand the logic behind the testing of china manufactured components in Western labs (Canada’s Electronic Warfare Associates, US-based Infoguard and Israel’s ALTAL Security Consulting) but not the reverse. I feel it's better and neutral that Govt. mandate all the western manufactured components(from NSN, Ericsson, Alcatel) to be tested in eastern labs (like labs in China & Japan) and the eastern manufactured components (from Huwaei, ZTE)to be tested in western labs(like USA,Canada,Isreal) till our won lab comes live. When Chinese can introduce malware/spyware certainly USA can do.....
  2. BSNL WiMAX Review

    Great review my dear friend. :clap: This review may put first few nails on the coffin of 3G in India. If someone can test and report HTC EVO 4G on BSNL's WiMAX n/w, it'll be of great help. Instead of buying CPE and Dongle, I can go for mobile straightaway.
  3. DoT wants to break free from Trai control, seeks legal opinion DoT and Trai have been lately sparring over the former’s decision to alter licence terms under which telecom firms operate second-generation (2G) mobile services source:: http://www.livemint.com/2010/06/02225526/DoT-wants-to-break-free-from-T.html Very Very Dangerous Move by DoT. In any regulatory framework, the complete control on the policy should lie with Regulator. Undermining that fundamental right of the regulator by quoting flimsy reasons is totally unwarranted and unacceptable. This is an era of information technology. Hence we can easily harness the private sector's ERP platform to make the entire chain from pre-consultation to recommendations to implementation covering functions of both TRAI & DOT in a holistic e-workflow structure. DoT only has power to consult back on the points where it becomes legally or technically impossible for it to implement. DoT should not be allowed even to tweak a single word in policy without approval from TRAI. The biggest issue currently we've is DoT is not paticipating in the consulation process of TRAI. Certianly DoT is one of the stakeholders in any consultation process initiated by TRAI on telecommunication sector. why is it not participating then???? :confuse: If DoT participates during consulation process, it can provide better suggestions to TRAI during the framing stage of recommendations itself.
  4. source:: http://business.rediff.com/report/2010/jun/02/tech-indias-postal-service-is-on-twitter.htm Good job India Post. It gives positive impression about you. We love you. :clap:
  5. Good One !! Atleast I never had any missing experience with India Post although it's very slow.

  7. I hope it's better idea for 'Idea' to sell the business to TATA. I feel 'Idea' is a bad idea for Birla group. TATA will be ready to pay premium for the sake of Delhi circle in which they've not got GSM spectrum till date. TRAI in recent recommendations almost closed the gate for TATA Docomo in Delhi.
  8. By looking at the overall ecology which is developing out of 3G and BWA auctions, I infer the following. 1) For CDMA route is very clear. 1X --> EvDO --> LTE/WiMax. 2) For GSM, the route may be different for different operators. But all the following combinations is possible i) GSM --> HSDPA (3G) --> LTE (4G) ii) GSM --> HSDPA (3G) --> WiMAX (4G) iii) GSM --> WiMAX (4G) iv) GSM --> LTE (4G) The operators will be very stiffly fighting for the circles which they've lost in 3G to deploy either WiMAX or TD-LTE so that they've pan-India footprint for data services. So friends be preapared to have 3G data in home circle and roam with 4G data in other circles. Even vice-versa is also possible. There is another possibility if any of the incumbent operator wins pan-India footprint in this BWA auction. If it becomes true, then he will deploy 4G( Wimax or TD-LTE) Pan-India for data and either sell out his 3G spectrum to others or will use it for high-quality voice. Another key important outcome could be Qualcomm or Infotel Broadband becoming green-field 4G-alone pan India operator. Unlike 3G auction(only 5MHz auctioned), 20 MHz is auctioned in BWA which is quite good enough for voice and data services.
  9. HC asks telcos to submit account books to CAG source :: http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/news-by-industry/telecom/HC-asks-telcos-to-submit-account-books-to-CAG/articleshow/6000700.cms Welcome judgement from HC. :clap: Let us see how ethical and transparent our operators are at the end of the audit.

  14. AUSPI asks TRAI not to show discrimination in inviting Vendors for 2G pricing discussion source :: http://telecomtiger.com/PolicyNRegulation_fullstory.aspx?passfrom=breakingnews&storyid=9276&section=S174 Very Very valid point from AUSPI. Everybody in the world is aware of NSN & Ericsson 's bias towards GSM since they are from the land of non-CDMA (read as Europe). TRAI being technology neutral regulator should see this issue in right perspective. Certianly Huawei and ZTE are the vendors who can give proper information on both technologies since they've almost equal experience on both technologies(CDMA and GSM). Hope this error will be rectified as fast as has been pointed out.
  15. Certainly they'll. Since only 3 operators(MTS,TATA,Reliance) are in the queque, they may get it at very cheaper rate.
  16. By looking at the ferocity of the BWA auctions, the myth of India skipping 3G for 4G is going to become real. Now BWA auctions has become royal battle for 2 competing techologies of 4G ( WiMax Vs LTE (can also be read as Intel Vs Qualcommm)). It's great for the Indian consumers who have been deprived of fruits of 3G to have a direct landing in 4G straight from 2G. It's interesting to see whether operators who holds 3G spectrum will be deploying 3G or some compatible 4G technology straight in 3G spectrum. India is going to be first country in the world where 3G & 4G are going to be deployed simultaneously. Now it has become imperative for the regulator TRAI to speed-up the regulatory policy framework for 4G sooner than later. The speed at which 4G be deployed in India is completely in the hands of handset makers. We've to see how fast they can bring in TD-LTE and WiMax(if it wins atlease one slot) handsets into Indian market. It also depends on speed at which they can supply handsets which work in multiple modes (minimum 3 out of GSM,CDMA1X,EvDO,HSDPA,WiMax,TD-LTE). Here again I feel Aircel will surprise others like what it did during 3G auctions since they've very good experience in their limited fixed WiMax operations in Chennai and Bangalore. Still no one is clear even after 44 rounds of bidding which operators are looking for TD-LTE and who will go for WiMAX.
  17. Here is the rank of circles as per earnings yielded by them to Government through 3G auctions. All figures in Crore INR. 1) Delhi --> 13267.72 2) Mumbai --> 12988.28 3) Karnataka --> 6319.64 4) TamilNadu --> 5859.76 5) AndhraPradesh --> 5492.56 6) Maharastra --> 5031.28 7) Gujarat --> 4304.24 8) Kolkata --> 2177.04 9) UP(W) --> 2056.16 10) Punjab --> 1610.05 11) UP(E) --> 1458.28 12) Rajasthan --> 1284.12 13) Kerala --> 1249.92 14) Madhya Pradesh --> 1033.44 15) Bihar --> 1017.3 16) Haryana --> 890.32 17) West Bengal --> 618.15 18) Orissa --> 387.92 19) Himachal Pradesh --> 186.15 20) North East --> 169.2 21) Assam --> 165.92 22) Jammu&Kashmir --> 151.5
  18. EV-DO Rev. B provides higher rates per carrier (up to 4.9 Mbit/s on the downlink per carrier). I wonder how they will attain 7 mbps as Qualcomm has ended the development of the proposed next generation of CDMA tech (Ultra Mobile Broadband or UMB) in November 2008, as most CDMA carriers chose to adopt the competing 3GPP Long Term Evolution (LTE) standard. (Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evolution-Data_Optimized ) Can some of the experts comment on the same? my dear friend don't confuse between EvDO Rev. B and UMB (Ultra Mobile Broadband). Rev. B is 3G but UMB is 4G. UMB was initially thought to be competitor for LTE(an another 4G technology). Qualcomm has dropped only UMB and certainly not Rev. B The following 2 articles will give you more confidence. ZTE claims successful deployment of world’s first Commercial EV-DO Rev’B network source :: http://www.telecomtiger.com/fullstory.aspx?storyid=8178 Sprint, Verizon rolling out EV-DO Rev. 19. Subscriber base data as on 30th April 2010. Bharti(Airtel) --> 3,092,009(WI) + 130,619,487(WL) = 133711496 PSU(MTNL+BSNL) --> 3,488,346(MTNL-WI) + 5,126,843(WL) + 27,680,006(BSNL-WI) + 70,627,675(BSNL-WL) = 106922870 Reliance --> 1,181,442(WI) + 105,155,754(WL) = 106337196 Vodafone --> 103,755,978(WL) = 103755978 TATA --> 1,172,836(WI) + 67,884,042(WL) = 69056878 Idea --> 65,288,248(WL) = 65288248 Aircel --> 38,469,541(WL) = 38469541 WI --> Wireline WL --> Wireless The leaders in the subscriber additions for the month of April are Airtel,Vodafone, Reliance, TATA, Idea and PSUs(BSNL+MTNL) in that order. The overall teledensity is at 54.10 There's a high possibility for Reliance to overtake PSUs in subscriber base(since difference is only 585674) by end of May and truly become India's second largest telecom operator. There's is one rumour spreading acrossin twitter which is related to this topic. It seems DoT is checking the validity of the Airtel's subscriber numbers and they're hunting for fake additions/activations in Airtel's subscriber book. Due to which there are frequent annoying calls to Airtel subscribers to submit/resubmit their address proof.
  20. Samsung Galaxy I899 Launched In Reliance CDMA

    Dear Samsung, Listen to Indian CDMA customers. This is an era of OMH and only OMH. You're the one who started this path in India. We've good respect about you for that. Please don't destroy the path which you've built. Releasing non-OMH handset that too so feature-rich(Andriod,WiFi,A-GPS,Rev-A) implies that you're becoming market insensitive. Hope and pray that you'll work with Qualcomm for making this phone an OMH-based in immediate future.
  21. Come on TRAI and DoT, it's your duty to release 3G spectrum to CDMA operators. It must happen in sync with realease of 3G spectrum for GSM operators (i.e. 1st September 2010). Eagerly Eagerly waiting for EvDO Rev. B in India
