  4. Trai Must Act

Telecom regulator may examine mobile tariffs source :: http://www.thehindubusinessline.com/2009/12/05/stories/2009120553040400.htm The 2 highlighted statements are very important for the industry. TRAI is looking at reducing termination charges. That's great news. TRAI is warning operators that if they don't make their system MNP ready by Dec 31st, they'll face consequences.
  5. Delhi HC dismisses petition on 2G spectrum allocation. Another judgement from HC which TRAI must keep in mind while formulating the new licensing and spectrum policy.
  6. Lg 6300 ( CDMA )

I don't have information on who provides OMH SIM. You can check with the respective operators' customer care. Coming back to certain samsung phones which works both for TATA Zone and RWorld. They've data settings of TATA Zone and R-World preprogrammed in it. Those phones are marketed by Samsung by highlighting that they can work for both TATA Zone and R-World. Since they've not anticipated MTS at that time, it'll certianly not work for MTS-World or BSNL-Zone. OMH is exactly to solve this problem for mobile makers to anticipate all the CDMA operators in particular country and preprogram all their settings.
  7. Fair usage limit of 2GB applies in unlimited 299 plan. May be beyond FUL 50p/MB applies even in unlimited plan.
  8. Lg 6300 ( CDMA )

No Idea. May be you can check with Customer Care.
  9. R-World has in-built browser for Java based phones(like LG6130) which you've to download before start browsing. In case you're using browsers which you've installed in your phones, you'll incur only offnet charges of 50p/MB.
  10. This is exactly what I was explaning. Thanks for updating real time experience. Session:: Session will end only when you close the browser.
  11. Uninor Launch On December 4, 2009

Not impressed with tariff structure of Uninor. It pales in comparison with following operators. MTS :: Base Tariff - 1p/sec (local-offnet & STD),1p/2sec local-onnet 1p/2 Sec local(with Rs. 30 Msaver. Deducted Re.1 per day) Virgin:: onnet local 15p/min offnet local 30p/min and STD 50p/min at daily rental of Re.1 TATA Docomo:: Base Tariff - 1p/sec (local & STD) 1p/2 sec local ( with pack value ranging from Rs.45 to Rs. 58 depending on circle) Uninor:: 29p/min local and 49p/min STD at daily rental of Re.2
  12. The term session is used to mean that you cannot add the previous session's usage bits to the next session to make 1 MB. It's like per minute pulse of voice calls. You cannot add the seconds across calls to make one minute.
  13. u mean for cdma, even if i subscibe for any data plan i have to pay Rs5p/1okb, if i surf r world and what will happen if i use OMH handset supporting offnet browsing only?? "charges between quota" means pulse for changing while free usage or after free usage is Rs0.5/MB correct?? let me know if i am wrong OMH SIM of reliance will have R-World access inbuilt. So OMH handsets can also browse R-World if they use Reliance OMH SIM. Yes. In CDMA, even if you subscribe for any data plan you have to pay Rs5p/10kb, if you surf R-world along with charges associated with any particular R-World application used.
  14. MTNL says can't meet MNP deadline source :: http://www.business-standard.com/india/news/mtnl-says-can%5Ct-meet-mnp-deadline/378334/ There's one good news and one bad news. Looking at Good News, Virgin will be the 3G franchisee for MTNL similar to Virgin being 2G franchisee for TATA. Great on the part of MTNL to have achieved this inspite of its inherent bureaucracy  Coming to Ontopic, it's a bad news. MTNL is not ready for MNP by Dec 31st. Its atrocious on part of MTNL to say that. Dec 31st being revised date, its imperative on part of all operators to make their system ready by Dec 31st come what may. Its more so impartant for MTNL being an PSU to obey orders of DoT. DoT should not tolerate this behaviour from MTNL and it's time for DoT to put its feet down strongly. I don't think it has something to do with technical but more to do with fear of competition. An arm of Govt. trying to stifle competition by buying time is totally unacceptable.
  15. Why TRAI should be concerned about Predatory Pricing? It's job of Bharti to respond to competition. I feel people in Airtel are getting nervous about the sustainability of its business model. As I said earlier, Airtel has lot of flap built in it. Its time it trims itself than looking for answers from Govt.
  16. Raja misled high court. Concealed PM’s letter asking him to stop allocation procedure. source :: http://www.dailypioneer.com/220340/Raja-misled-high-court.html It's interesting to note that Raja went ahead although PM has advised him in contrary. Now TRAI is formulating the new licensing conditions and spectrum policy. Even if TRAI comes out with auction as a new spectrum policy, it cannot be applied for applicants who have applied till October 1, 2007. I don't think India will have 2G spectrum(even after including spectrum to be vocated by Defence) available for auctioning after distributing spectrum to all the applicants till October 1, 2007. Only way out is to provide all the start-up spectrum bundled with license and incremental spectrum by way of auctioning. Let the market do the rest by M&A. In the M&A guidelines, TRAI can force the old company which is acquiring the new entrant (less than 2 yrs from the date of start-up spectrum allocation) to provide amount equal to 4.4 MHz (pro-rated from the market value of final 3G auction price) to Govt.
  17. Judging from previous reliance tricks, i fear for 1 MB, in addition to 50p, they may charge (1024/10)x0.05 = Rs 5.12. So 1MB actually works out to 0.50 + 5.12 = Rs 5.62. And similarly in the other plans. Or am I wrong? I hope so! Nope....you'll be charged 50p for offnet browsing and for very tiny R-World usage which you might have used to reach the browser (say 1Kb for which you'll be charged 5p). In total you'll be charged 55p.
  18. To make it simple, onnet(R-World) is charged at 5p/10Kb and offnet(all internet sites) is charged at 50p/1MB. Free quota is applicable only for Offnet and after exhausting free quota, offnet will be charged at 50p/1MB. For GSM users, the free browsing within R-World (onnet) is provided as introductory offer. But be careful, the pulse for offnet is 1MB. Even 1 Kb will be charged 50p and 1025 Kb will be charged Re.1 To compare it with older plans, previously all offnet and onnet were charged at 10p/10Kb
  19. Here are few clarifications. Reliance Mobile Internet Data Plan --> Internet in Mobile Rconnect --> Internet through mobile This thread and charges are related only to Internet in Mobile. For CDMA:: 5p/10kb is applicable only to CDMA users as network usage charge while moving across R-World till you hit browser in the R-World. After hitting the browser the data plan charges apply at the rate of 50p/1MB after exhausting your free quota. Free quota is only used against data consumption after hitting the browser. For GSM:: Browsing within R-World is free "Charges between Quota" should read as "Charges beyond Quota".
  20. Lg 6300 ( CDMA )

Here is little more clarity on OMH. There are 2 entities which has to be complaint with OMH for to utilize the OMH advantage to the fullest. 1) OMH handset 2) OMH SIM Normally GSM's n/w settings are completely stored in SIM, so its very easy to switch between operators. In case of CDMA RUIM, part of the n/w settings are stored in RUIM and other part stored in Handset. Part which has information about the subscriber and the operator is stored in RUIM but the information about data exchange is stored in handset. This is the reason why Samsung used to say that their handsets can support R-World, TATA-Zone and V-bytes. Since they pre-program these data settings in their handsets. If you observe clearly some Samsung handsets although RUIM based will support either R-World or TATA-Zone but not both. All these handsets will not support MTS-World(if it exists) or BSNL-Zone(if it exists) In OMH SIM all the settings are moved to SIM similar to GSM. With OMH, Manufacturer need not worry about pre-configuring these data settings in their handsets. That is the reason why Samsung didn't speak about TATA-Zone or R-World in relation to Mpower 699. Simply put Mpower 699 can support any CDMA operator's data zone just by inserting respective operator's OMH SIM. These OMH handsets can work with even Airtel world(if Airtel starts CDMA operations) just by inserting Airtel's OMH SIM. To cut the long story short, RUIM only ensures the voice and SMS interoperability but OMH ensures interoperability even in data (including MMS). To ensure downward compatibility, all OMH handsets will work with normal RUIMs although for data usage you've to program the handset with particular operator's data settings. To ensure downward compatibility, all OMH SIMs will work with normal handsets although for data usage the data settings present in the handset will be taken against the one present in OMH SIM.
