  1. Very interesting to see 3G CDMA Nokia Phone. Dear Mods, Please merge this with "Nokia 8208 Cdma : Coming Soon, High-end CDMA mobile" thread which is runing in Nokia Forum.
  2. Dear Mods, Please merge this thread with another thread runing by name "Samsung Duos Touch W299". I got a link to the phone's specifications. http://www.mobileisgood.com/phone_spec.php...ufacturer_id=45 Its quite impressive but it lacks EvDO. I got a link to a manual but its in Chinese but some pictures in the manual would be helpful. http://safemanuals.com/user-guide-instruct...SAMSUNG/W299-_B
  3. I don't want to decide whether the idea is worth of a patent till I read the patent report. In India, it takes more than 7 years to get a patent. I'm sure that our patent attroneys and patent office people are not fools to just patent an idea. Whatever Judiciary has done is absolutely expected of it and a welcome move. It gives publicity for the IPR laws(to make citizens aware that IPR exists in India) and sends signals Judiciary is there to protect it. Judiciary is there to act against the people who breaks the law in this case IPR and it has done its part. Its now job of the prosecution and defence lawyers to prove what patent office has done is right or wrong in front of Judiciary. If the verdict turns negative, then among the three(Judiciary,Patent holder and Patent Office), it was only the patent office who has done wrong.
  4. Very nice move by HC. It's a positive advertisement for Indian Judiciary and IPR India. Let us wait and see the results.
  5. Just look at this link. I feel its EvDO by looking at the promised speed of 2.4 Mbps. http://www.tataindicom.com/HSIA-service.aspx
  6. I'm not sure about that. I too believe video calls are handled in data channel.
  7. Not really......... 3G is all about data and not about voice. voice doesn't need 3G. EvDO is all about providing extra and independent bandwidth for data without disturbing the voice bandwidth provided through CDMA 100x The devices are allotted phone numbers and not IP addresses. Not allowing voice at this point of time is just a gimmick to fool Govt. Just we'll wait and watch how Govt reacts to this.
  8. Jai Ho India !! This is one for which I've prayed for long. This is the first time I'm hearing in India that some big international muscle & money players ( e.g. Samsung) are forced to detain their imports due to IP rights issue from an ordinary Indian. If the person deserves royalty(if the technology is similar to his patent) then it should be paid to him. I always felt India never used IPR properly till date. We've lost huge amount of money which should ideally have got from different countries in the form of royalty. Govt and Judiciary should demonstrate their capability in terms of protecting IPR of budding youngsters in country agianst money power. Its an open challenge to Govt and Judiciary. If this case is won, I think it'll certainly ignite many talented buds in India to take Science as means of making life instead of losing their brain in mundane repititive work in MNCs.
  9. I feel the government will step in and stop both HSIA(TATA Indicom) and Reliance Netconnect Broadband+ . This is Reliance's stunt to stop the popularity of TATA's Photon. Only BSNL has right to start the EVDO and not private players. This is against government rule to start EVDO till auctions for 3G is over. Reliance anyway has to sell EvDO modems and upgrade their network to 3G after auctions. So Reliance will not lose any money but users will be forced to revert back to CDMA 1x n/w till Govt. auctions 3G in the high price modems. So friends please be careful. Wait for reactions from GSM players.
  10. D-88n With Opera Mini

  11. 5th Anniversary For Rimweb! (23-12-2008)

Happy Birthday RIMWEB. I was inactive during the later half of the year due to persoanl reasons. Its great to realize that I was chosen. It shows the character of the RIMWEB to continue to flourish even when some members were in leave.
  12. TRAI today released regulations on Unsolicited Commercial Calls(UCC). Highlights:: 1)Service Provider liable to pay an amount by way of financial disincentive, not exceeding Rs. 5,000 for the first non-compliance and in case of second or subsequent such non-compliance, an amount not exceeding Rs. 20,000 for each such non-compliance. 2) Registered telemarketers to pay Rs.500 as tariff for each unsolicited call for every first unsolicited commercial communication and Rs.1,000 for every subsequent unsolicited commercial communication source :: http://www.trai.gov.in/trai/upload/PressRe...17mar08no25.pdf
  13. I've started this thread to encapsulate the progress of roll-out of Shyam telelink(Sistema's subsidiary) which now has start-up spectrum in 12 circles. Please pour in here all your comments and information about Shyam Telelink. http://www.rimweb.in/forums/index.php?s=&a...st&p=107365 Shyam closes in on Rs 5,000 cr infra-sharing deal with RTIL source :: http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/News/N...how/2969356.cms Here's the link to the homepage. http://www.hellorainbow.com/ Dear Rajastan users of Shyam Telelink, Kindly pour in your feedback(qulity of sevice, Tariff etc.,) so that it would help others......
  14. ADC on domestic calls abolished from 1.4.2008 ADC on international incoming calls reduced from Rs.1 to Rs.0.50 from 1.4.2008 and will eventually abolished from 1.10.1008 BSNL may receive Rs.2000 crore per annum from USOF as subsidy for sustaining wirelines installed before 1.4.2002 for a period of 3 years in the non-ADC regime. TRAI calls 2008-09 as "the year for rural telecom access" TRAI asked operators to come up with constructive proposals for rural consumers within week's time. If otherwise, TRAI will make pro-active measures which may hurt operators. source :: http://www.trai.gov.in/trai/upload/PressRe...27mar08no29.pdf Now the big questions? Will operators pass on the benefit(abolition of ADC) to customers? Will ILD operators make call from outside the country cheaper? Are the operators ready to serve the rural areas before TRAI jumps into the ring with whip? Can BSNL one day become philanthropist from being a pauper?

  16. I feel its more or less copy of Opera. Tab Previews of Opera are missing in Chrome. I feel Opera continues to be the fastest browser on the Solar System.
  17. Very good move by DoT to allow voice services in WiMax Spectrum. Argument :: Its illegal to fix the base price at 50% of the base price of 3G WCDMA spectrum if voice is allowed. If we go by logic the base price for WiMAX auction should have been 200% of the base price of 3G WCDMA spectrum since each operator is allowed to bid for 20MHz in WiMax compared to just 2* 5 MHz in WCDMA. Counter-Argument:: Since WiMAX is not an established technology like WCDMA or EVDO for voice communications its better to give WiMAX a bit of kick-start like this initially to establish itself. But future auctions can be made on level-playing field if WiMAX handsets starts flowing. Since ISPs are also allowed to bid for WiMAX spectrum, QoS on voice can't be mandated and hence voice on WiMAX is not equivalent to voice on other 2 technologies(WCDMA and EvDO). In WiMAX spectrum voice is an add-on but in WCDMA/EVDO data is an add-on.
  18. Hope you guys are talking about this mobile. http://www.lgmobiles.com/specs/Product%20N...RD9100%20LG.pdf
  19. We can't wait further more on VoIP. Being numero one in IT industry, totally it doesn't make sense in not opening up the VoIP till date. Ideally we should shown the world on the fruits of VoIP but its better late than never. DoT should act fast since the recommendations given out by TRAI is straightforward without any complications. DoT can open up new category of license called UWASL(Universal Wired Access Service License) which would be cheap and without spectrum and they can be allowed to provide Triple Play Service on wires(copper or OFC). Cable operators and ISPs can be migrated to this category so that they too can provide Triple Play Services.
  20. This is called policy enforcement. Kudos to TRAI. Other central departments can learn few things from this and become stronger in enforcement. If all central departments can show this kind of enforcement capability, I'm sure the same thing can be replicated by our state departments in near future.
  21. Its really interesting since Retail belongs to Mukesh Ambani. Hope the handset is open market.
  22. I've studied in several articles that BSNL has been provided spectrum for WCDMA(2.1 GHz), EvDO(800 MHz) and WiMAX(2.3/2.5 GHz) officially. Why then they're not launching EvDO Datacards nation-wide? or atleast complete city-wide in the areas where they've already partial operations(like Chennai, Bangalore, Jaipur, Coimbatore and Kerala cities)?
  23. TRAI should never bend to these kind of foolish arguments by GSM operators. POIs are created only for the purpose of interconnection and it has to be technology neutral. What happens on either side of POI is irrelevant for the operators concerned. We've seen enough of time wastng technologies adopted by GSM operators to avert competition. Its high time TRAI puts down its feet down firmly. India has been lacking in enforcement in each and every department like Traffic Rules, Environmental Rules, Pollution control rules, Construction rules and the list never ends. Unless our departments show the glimpses of enforcement, perpetrators will never stop disturbing our communal harmony and peace. I've been thinking that TRAI as a Telecom Regulator can show the way to other departments in terms of enforcement. By looking at the no. of notices issued this week I can only conclude that operators doesn't respect Regulator at all. Its even pathetic that notice has to be issued to a public sector company(BSNL). TRAI website I plead TRAI to show the power of Regulator by blocking the subscriber addition for the operators who're not falling in line within seven days. We've thousand and thousand lines of rules which came out with the help of wisdom of great Indians and if these are not enforced then we'll have another ABDUL KALAM in 2020 dreaming about developed India in 2040.
  24. The point raised is vaild. Giving 1.25 MHz of spectrum to the operator of higer subscriber base is illegal since starting date of license of each operator is higly different and that's the main reason why each operator has different subscriber base currently. The best way out is to auction the available 1.25 MHz among all CDMA operators. The other important task is to force Defense to vacate the 800 Mhz band immediately before the start of the e-auction. Allowing the CDMA operators to use the existing spcetrum is not a valid argument since it'll hamper them in future when they start acquiring more subscribers.
  25. Fly Launches Dual Sim Handsets
