I don't agree completely with you. In 3G, more applications running on mobiles will have dependency with the operator's mode of transmission. In future instead of customer running between service provider and mobile manufacturer to solve a problem in 3G application, its better mobile operator owns responsibility for the entire package. Atleast for high end models I would like this tie-up to continue.

Indian Airlines, Reliance Info Tie Up For...
kesav replied to @ksh@T's topic in Reliance Communications
Unfortumately It'll be other way round. Till IA booking becomes popular they'll keep it in membership plan. Once it becomes popular then they'll move it to pay on entry like railway booking. Reliance is using R-World as money minting machine. There'll be no respite for the budget mobile users like me. -
In Korea this EvDO Motorola phone was launched. http://www.motorola.com/motoinfo/product/d.../0,,106,00.html Thanks to basant_jp for info. He has already started one thread for this phone in Motorola forum.

Dear Linux, Now I know the reason for your confusion, commotion and irritation. If you've carefully read(studied in your case) Anujit's post you should have realized there's no limit of INTERNATIONAL BANDWIDTH as you've imagined for yourself. Its only your service provider not providing the bandwidth. The core routers in the backbone of our country are working at the speed of 2.5 Gbps so provding mere 2.4 Mbps is not a problem at all. The broadband service are aiming for providing the speed upto 8 Mbps with existing infrastructure. Just because your ISP is providing you 64 Kbps, doesn't mean that is available limit in India. So there's no need of any extra submarine cables or anthing like that to provide you this speed.

For every new high end handset the've to put so much effort in testing each and every module you use and also each and every menu in the R-World. Since Reliance itself is selling the handsets and since you blast them for each and every tiny mistake you see its not that easy to release a new handset in the market. Its not like GSM handset which you buy and just insert SIM where phone problem is your problem and not service provider's. The effort involved in releasing a high end handset is more than twice as much as effort involved in releasing the b/w handset. They have to analyse whether they could recover the cost before they take the plunge. Volume is very low in high end handset and margin they've keep it high and make sure still it attracts the dudes like us.

Tanveer, Be patient! currently Reliance wants to capture rural market where mobile penetration is horribly low. Our villagers can never offer to get colour handset for some more years. They may need it just for talking and not for anything else like what we do. Let them enjoy their due. You've to realize that this forum might someday visited by the owners of those so called "stupid" handsets. We've to comment only whether the handset is value for money or not. We should not brand it stupid just for the case we'll never going to buy such handsets. Its in a way a kind of discrimination. You've recently bought 6255 and they've introduced 6235 within short span. Do you expect them to release high end model every month? If so then its greedy from our side. We've to understand Reliance is doing business and not philanthropy.
-
No Idea when they'll release it in India. But I thought forum would be a trigger for Reliance to look at this kind of quality mobile makers. Generally I don't have much faith in the quality of Sony. But I've immense faith in quality of Ericsson. They're known for their quality in Europe. Normally the products from Scandinavian makers are known for their quality although their market share is limited. Some examples from different sectors are Opera in browser, Volvo in automobile. Their main issue will be their marketing which is generally bad except for Europe. I hope Sony partnership is mainly to bridge that gap. so Quality don't Worry.
-
Linux, You've come closer to understanding but in the end you got bit confused. I take your quote and modify and then you'll unseratand. LAN Potential speed - 100Mbps ISP offers - 64Kbps Real-Time speed(depending on network paramaters) - Close to 64Kbps Similarly, EVDO Potential speed - 2.4Mbps ISP(Reliance) offers - 2.4 Mbps Real-Time speed(depending on network paramaters) - close to 2.4 Mbps Hence what we're actually discussing is how close we'll be when EvDO is implemented in Reliance.
-
Linux this is what Anujit has said some time back. Current CDMA has max limit of 144 kbps but he's getting around 130+kbps currently. Hence shall we hope that we could achieve similar closer figure(to its max limit of 2.4 Mbps) in EvDO also.

Sometimes when I access Forum I'm getting the following message repeatedly and after an hour or so when I try again I'm able to access. For information I'm behind a corporate firewall. I've noticed this happening twice a week or so. " Service Unavailable The proxy is currently unable to handle the request due to a (possibly) temporary error. Extended error information is: Failed to forward the request to the web server at www.rimweb.in:80. This may be due to a firewall configuration error or a DNS failure. If this situation persists, please contact your firewall administrator. "

Hehe. That 2.4Mbps isn't dedicate only for you 47976[/snapback] The 2.4 Mbps is the peak speed which each and every individual can enjoy(Current peak speed is 144kbps for CDMA 1xRTT)under scarce load. So don't worry. This is the peak downlink speed which EvDO can support but real time speed may be around some 50% of it under peak load. the uplink peak speed can only around 153kbps but this may improve when next version of EvDO becomes active. Current revision is Revision 0 and upcoming revision is Revision A(products expected mid 2006). The following link will refresh you about EvDO. http://www.lucent.com/livelink/09009403800..._Newsletter.pdf

Anujit: If you're so confident that 7230 is a EvDO phone then I don't have anything to say. The information which I got that 7230 is not an EvDO phone is from an LG employee. May be there's chance he might have been not aware. Achilles : In bothways its better for you to sell that handset. If its not an EvDO it's a jackpot for you. If it's an EvDO phone even then 7230 is not capable of using EvDO's potential. You can buy a better phone then. So Don't lose the opportunity which Anujit is providing you.

LGRD7230 is not an EvDO handset and it only contains Qualcomm 3G chipset but phone doesn't support dual band communication or high-end real-time video streaming and web browsing, highligt of EvDO. The misconception was due to the fact it uses the chip-set used in 3G phones. Its like putting 2.6 litre engine on Maruti 800. The spectrum which Army is planning to vacate is very limited of entire spectrum planned for 3G. Leaving out that spectrum, there's enough available for both GSM and CDMA operators. That argument was only highlighted by the media lobbying with GSM operators to postpone introduction. Coming to WCDMA introduction in 2001 it was at nascent stage and test introduction of WCDMA can't be compared with operational intorduction of EvDO by KDDI. Anyway real-time WCDMA could only reach the speed of 340 kb/s compared to 7000 to 800 kb/s achieved in EvDO. Regarding market competition have a look at the examples of LG in consumer electronics, Toyota in automobiles etc.., It doesn't depend on when you enter market but depends on what you do after you enter market. There are infinite number of success stories about late entrants due to their technological innovations. The following are the links to some more EvDO enabled handsets. http://product.samsung.com/cgi-bin/nabc/pr...selTab=Features http://www.evdoinfo.com/EVDO_Products/EVDO_Phones/

Whatever is available currently on the reliance network is not through EvDO. LiveAajtak is also not through EvDO. If it's through EvDO then you'll enjoy much more speed and refresh rate. For launching EvDO you need separate high frequency band for data transmission and the voice will be carried over the current band. Government is not wiling to provide the high frequency band ear marked for CDMA in 3G to Reliance basically because they want to wait till all operators get equipped with 3G equipments for tower and other infrastructure. For CDMA its very simple for to move from 2.5G to 3G since the underlying multiplexing technology remains the same. Its costly for GSM operators because they've to switch from TDMA(GSM is varaint of TDMA) to CDMA in 3G. Just simple science will tell you CDMA is more efficient use of available bandwidth compared to TDMA which is bandwidh inefficient. In 3G basically science is confluencing in CDMA multiplexing but still there'll be difference in how its implemented. For GSM it'll be WCDMA and for current CDMA it'll be CDMA EvDO. Looking from mobile user point of view I'm not bothered about promoting competition or any other stuff ...Basically every citizen would like to have the technology as fast as possible inside their country. If some operators have disadvantage its because of their poor foresight about technology. They've to suffer for that. Nobody stopped any operator to take CDMA when mobile was introduced in India. They thought only of initial investment in which GSM is less basically because the technology is inefficient. Even a higher secondary kid will know the TDMA is bandwidth hungry compared to CDMA. Its time for government not to play petty politics and better support the horses for the courses instead waiting for all horses to get groomed. In case of Japan 3G in CDMA was available from around mid of 2004 and now they lead the world. Japenese government didn't wait till 3G in GSM was finalized. During the time of introduction of EvDO in Japan GSM group was deliberating on multiplexing to be used in 3G. Government should try to promote competition but should not at the cost of early introduction of technology. If its between market competition and technology, I'll always vote for technology.

I don't think LG7130 is EvDO. As for as I know there're no phones with EvDO in Reliance since it doesn't make sense to promote 3G phones till technology is available for customer. In otherwords customer have to pay for technology available in phone which can't be used. By the way have a look at EvDO enabled blackberry. http://www.blackberry.com/products/blackbe...erry7130e.shtml

The following link is a link to product list of KDDI operator - Japan who is very experienced operator in Ev-DO. As we already aware that Japenese market is very much experienced in 3G compared to any other continent put together. The link may throw some light on what would be possible on EvDO handsets. http://www.au.kddi.com/english/product/index.html The products listed under CDMA 1X WIN category are mobiles which supports EvDO. Hope the above link will help you to refine your thoughts for discussion.

Just have a look at the available Ev-DO phones from LG on Verizon operator in US in the following link. http://us.lge.com/Product/prodlist.do?actT...l=4&archivedYn= The first row("the v" and "vx8100") phones are Ev-DO phones and the features are rocking. Now the question is when Reliance will move to Ev-DO? Discuss the features and expectations on the next generation phones. <TOPIC MERGED!>

Is sending MMS through portal charged? I beleive its charged. Somebody kindly confirm it.

"Tirupathi" in Devotional category might also have the same problem. It's categorised as 'U' but after entering in I don't see any price details. Hence I feel it might be category 'E' and shown due to bug as 'U'. BE CAREFUL...

Now the question is which phone will be released first. 6155 or 6165 or 6265 The difference between 6155 and 6165 is as follows 6165 has bluetooth and web browser. 6155 has FM radio. Regarding browser, We've to wait and see whether Reliance will allow to use in-built browser rather than using their downloaded jbrowser for R-Surf. 6255 users has to pressure Reliance to allow using their in-built browser rather than their jbrowser which is user-repelling. Since R- Surf is still not active, 6255 users can make this happen. This will help future 6165 and 6265 users. As you already know 6265 has everything to offer in a series 40 phone. So hold your breath.

Anybody could tell me difference between the "setLanguage" present in "News Room" and the one present in "Tool Kit". My understanding is both does the same thing.
-
I've seen in the Nokia Website features of 6255 this mobile can be used to send and receive e-mails. This feature is listed different from MMS. Has anybody tried this feature or any information whether Reliance is going to support this feature? Note :: This feature should not to be confused with e-mail feature of MMS. These 2 are different.

I want to know whether I can store mp3 and aac songs and play it like I do in 6255. Or it can only be used to set as ring tones and not be played as playlist. Kindly help me out...
