All the newspapers etc are talking about the debt reduction of around US$3.9 billion, but no one has talked about how much erosion of RCOM's assets will take place by this merger. Somehow, it does not gel at all. From the size of the deal, Rs 50k crore worrth of towers etc are to be transferred to the new merged company. If so, this much 50k crores value will get eroded from RCOM. I am not sure if my thinking is correct. Does the shareholders of RCOM get this much in return? (proportionately, of course) The share value of RCOM should in fact come down, by this de-merger anIs my logic right?d re-merger.

ON a PC with around 234kbps (EDGE) speeds, it will be very slow.... This is compared to the nowadays standard 2mbps speeds of a wired BB....

Slightly Off Topic, There is also a revision now in the Talktime available when a customer does a top-up for 10,20,50,100 etc in TN. Not sure about other circles. Maybe we are guinea pigs for them and they will slowly extend this to other circles if subscribers do not raise a hue and cry. Now they are giving some 6.06 TT plus 10 local SMS when you topup with Rs 10 instead of the earlier 7.06 or whatever. Similarly for Rs 20, 50 and 100.... Will post exact details as soon as I lay my hands on it.

They are valid for everything you want to do with GPRS - mobile or pc.... Check the link I posted and you will know everything.... Last 2 weeks, I was on holiday in HP and my son and nieces made full use of the Rs 26 pack valid for 3 days. GPRS was working everywhere in HP - even the remotest places. And the speeds were quite tolerable (not too good as I am used to good old BSNL BB speeds) And yes I used RCOMNET all the time.... But yes, once the Rs 26 pack benefit was over, Rs 2 was being deducted for god knows how many kb. And yes, we were not able to latch onto Vodafone for even voice calls at many places in HP. I did not try using RGSM's voice services as I had RCDMA which was my primary number for voice calls - and whoa, what an amazing network they have for RCDMA.

Any DTH service will pose problems when it rains - the outages will be only for a max of 2 to 5 minutes - again it depends on how thick the clouds will remain. All other services are the same across all operators - even the monthly charges are more or less the same. But Tata Sky is the most sought after brand in DTH followed by Dish and then others... This is my personal opinion and not based on any facts.

For US machines, go in for TAYLOR make from Mittal International, Daryaganj, Delhi. DairyDen is selling imported machines from Italy under the name of Carpigianni. Both are really good. I thought Dairy Den was out of business, but since kalpak says it, it must be true. I used to sell Taylor machines about 15 years ago, I gave up because of availability problems of spares. Mittal had a good name in North India whereas the rest of the country, Dairy Den was king at that time. No idea about the current status of both of them, check about Mittal thoroughly before jumping in... Check in your town, surely there will be many installations.. The website of Mittal is here

You are looking to buy our the softy machine or take it on lease from the major ice cream manufacturer? Talk to local ice cream companies, they will be able to lease it out to you on a profit sharing basis or some such funda... There are various imported machines available, you can source them out from Daryaganj, Delhi. You can also google it out... U S made machines are expensive whereas Italian ones are relatively cheaper but obviously - prone to problems. Nowadays a lot of Indian companies also make similar machines. Its your call... Also you should probably look at the floating-crowd-near-your-shop angle. This is very important for a softy business to succeed.

I think it is available for all phones as long as you pay Rs 99 per month for the facility. The last time I saw RWorld some time back in Jan.'10, it was available. So this facility has been around for almost 3 months. But my personal opinion is that it is a costly service unless you really call conference with 9 people simultaneously - in GSM AFAIK, you can connect 5 parties in a conference for free (free of rentals like Rs 99)

Anyway, its good that the service is working indeed. Some time back, I found that my SMS Inbox was flooded with a lot of SMS' of missed call alerts which were missed calls almost a month old....

Maybe they have woken up now and plugged the loophole...

Out of 12 to 15 transactions I did with GiftMate so far, atleast 5 to 7 have failed and the amount refunded to me after 3 to 5 days. The last transaction I did a couple of days back showed successful in Giftmate but in my Voda number, the balance was not credited. To my surprise, the next day, I got back the credit in my GiftMate account without complaining. Overall I am happy with their services although atleast 40% transactions have indeed failed. Moral of the story: One should never use GiftMate at the last moment. They are highly prone to failures....

I am using UL900 of BSNL 512 kbps Unltd and for this month the speeds are supposed to be 1mbps. But they are in reality, pathetic.... I am planning to back to Combo 599 2mbps speed, 2.5GB d/l and nights unltd d/ls.

I checked with Chennai CC and was told that this plan is valid for as long as you wish (for eternity), the only condition is that you will have to have atleast Re 1 in your main account everyday when the deductions take place. Sometimes it may happen, when there is no balance, you will not get free SMS' and subsequently, when you top-up your account, this plan will continue. On EC on Rs 14, you will get Rs 10.69 as TT in your account and every day Re 1 will get deducted and for this you will get 500 SMS free (Local/National/Roaming) Some bad news also: - Rs 11 SMS pack will increase to Rs 19 (Auto renewing)and Rs 25 SMS pack will increase to Rs 35 (non auto renewing) w e f 26th April 2010 Other circles, please check on the above and post here.... If the above is indeed true, then Rs 14 pack is the best option for all IMHO.
