Not very sure if this was posted elsewhere on RW earlier. If it was posted, mods/admins may please delete this post.... INTERVIEW OF WARREN BUFFET There was a one hour interview on CNBC with Warren Buffet, the second richest man who has donated $31 billion to charity. Here are some very interesting aspects of his life: 1. He bought his first share at age 11 and he now regrets that he started too late! 2. He bought a small farm at age 14 with savings from delivering newspapers. 3. He still lives in the same small 3-bedroom house in mid-town Omaha , that he bought after he got married 50 years ago. He says that he has everything he needs in that house. His house does not have a wall or a fence. 4. He drives his own car everywhere and does not have a driver or security people around him. 5. He never travels by private jet, although he owns the world's largest private jet company. 6. His company, Berkshire Hathaway, owns 63 companies. He writes only one letter each year to the CEOs of these companies, giving them goals for the year. He never holds meetings or calls them on a regular basis. He has given his CEO's only two rules. Rule number 1: do not lose any of your share holder's money. Rule number 2: Do not forget rule number 1. 7. He does not socialize with the high society crowd. His past time after he gets home is to make himself some pop corn and watch Television. 8. Bill Gates, the world's richest man met him for the first time only 5 years ago. Bill Gates did not think he had anything in common with Warren Buffet. So he had scheduled his meeting only for half hour. But when Gates met him, the meeting lasted for ten hours and Bill Gates became a devotee of Warren Buffet. 9. Warren Buffet does not carry a cell phone, nor has a computer on his desk. His advice to young people: "Stay away from credit cards and invest in yourself and Remember: A. Money doesn't create man but it is the man who created money. B. Live your life as simple as you are. C. Don't do what others say, just listen to them, but do what makes you feel good. D. Don't go on brand name; just wear those things in which you feel comfortable. E. Don't waste your money on unnecessary things; just spend on things that you really need. F. After all it's your life, then why give others the chance to rule your life."

^^^ Thanks, Greatest..... The Law of the Garbage Truck One day, I hopped into a taxi and took off for the airport . We were driving in the right lane when suddenly, a black car, jumped out of a parking space right in front of us. My taxi driver slammed the brakes, skidded, and missed the other car by just inches! The driver of the other car whipped his head around and started yelling at us. My taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy. I mean, was really friendly. So I asked, "Why did you just do that? This guy almost ruined your car and sent us to the hospital!" This is when my taxi driver taught me what I now call, 'The Law of the Garbage Truck' He explained, "Many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger, and full of disappointment. As their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump it and sometimes they'll dump it on you. NEVER take it personally. Just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on with the routine life." Don't take their garbage and spread it to other people at work, at home or on the streets. The bottom line is that successful people do not let garbage trucks take over their day. Life's too short to wake up in the morning with regrets, so...... 'Love the people who treat you right.. Pray for the ones who don't.' A very rightly said quote: Life is 10% what you make and 90% how you take!

The Dentist The Dentist pulls out a freezing needle to give the man a shot. "No way! No needles! I hate needles," the patient said. The Dentist starts to hook up the laughing gas and the man objects. "I can't do the gas thing. The thought of having the gas mask on is suffocating me!" The Dentist then asks the patient if he has any objection to taking a pill. "No objection," the patient says. "I'm fine with pills." The Dentist then returns and says, "Here's a Viagra tablet." The patient says, "Wow! I didn't know Viagra worked as a painkiller!!!" "It doesn't," said the Dentist, "but it will give you something to hold onto when I pull your tooth."

  7. Courtesy: http://blogs.economictimes.indiatimes.com/...you-buy-the-new Should you buy the new iPhone? Abhimanyu Radhakrishnan Wednesday June 10, 2009 The new iPhone 3G-S is expected to hit the shelves in India only by August and with the DoT going on the record to say that 3G spectrum auctions will only happen by the end of the year, it's hard to imagine why anyone would want to invest in a new iPhone. If you want a piece of the iPhone's brilliant "touch" experience and access to all those fun applications from the AppStore, you can get them at half the price by buying an iPod Touch instead. It's widely known that iPhone sales in India have been dismal and they're probably more "hacked" iPhones from the grey market, in use than original ones. The only way Airtel and Vodafone can hope to create some buzz in the run-up to 3G licensing, is to slash the prices of the older iPhone 3G substantially - by Rs. 10,000 at least - maybe through a handset subsidy scheme similar to AT&T's model in the US. I would go one step further and say that Airtel and Vodafone don't really seem that interested in selling the iPhone and Apple might want to re-explore its operator tie-ups in India. Moreover, both operators have a long term strategy in place of building their own mobile application stores to compete with Apple's App Store. Airtel is believed to be working with IBM on an app development platform while Vodafone has already announced it's intentions to build its own store. On the other hand you have MTNL and BSNL, sitting pretty with 3G licenses and already operating in some circles, but rather clueless about how to get high-value users on board and which handsets and services to offer. Apple can also be rest assured that MTNL and BSNL don't have the ambition or the expertise to attempt something on the lines of the AppStore anytime soon. Mr. Jobs, now that your health is improving, maybe you'd want to pay a visit, nearly 40 years after your backpacking trip, and get things sorted out in India as far as the iPhone is concerned?
  8. Lets Ask Arun

^^^ Its working fine for me, just checked it now.... BTW, the image I get only asks me if I want to mark all forums/subforums as read...
  9. ^^^ I too agree with you... @doc, people may change their mentality of not getting tied up for 2 years to any operator only if the contract is reasonable and not otherwise...
  10. I feel that a contract system can do well here in India because the tariffs are far too low than in India and it may not be more than 1 to 1.5k per month which many will consider reasonable enough. Secondly, people here on RW are forgetting that RCOM (except kshah) started with the contract system (aka DAPO) and by no means it was considered unreasonable at around Rs 20+k.... for the very basic (as compared to today's mobiles) LG and Samsung mobiles.... Probably RCOM should tie up with Apple Iphone and get it on a very reasonable contract basis here in India also. Or maybe TATA or Voda or Airtel will be doing it...Lets wait and watch.... July is not too far off.....
  11. @ravi, AFAIK and from what I saw on TV, at the end of thread, there is a mention of Reliance GSM also.
  12. And who knows when MNP will really come.... The minister now said October whereas in this forum, and according to some news reports, it was said that Chennai and Kolkata will get MNP first in the country by September... Will it really come????
  13. ^^^ What about !dea's tariffs? are they competitive? I think not, maybe i am wrong....
  14. ^^^ seems to be tata, showing in chennai since some time....
  15. Following is the email I received from broadbandforum.in Hi All, As some of you may know, Airtel is introducing / has introduced a new policy called the "Fair Usage Policy" (details are sketchy) that seeks to curb the amount you download using 'unlimited' internet plans. What they are trying to get away with is saying that people are using too much of the internet and thus they need to curb your downloads / speeds, rather than upgrade their own infrastructure and equipment. In an nutshell, what it means is that if you have an unlimited plan that is, say, 512kbps in speed, after a certain cap they will halve your speed to 256kbps for the rest of the month, while charging you the same amount that they have been charging you till now for 512kbps for the whole month!!! Essentially they are giving you less (up to 45% less) service but for the same price!!! And the cap can be reached in as quick as 5-6 days if you are a heavy user. While you may feel that this only affects 'heavy downloaders,' it's an important issue for all to consider as it sets a very dangerous precedent for telecom companies to start implementing all sorts of policies. The day may not be very far (in fact many internet activists around the world say it's quite near) where the ISPs will control not only your speeds and download abilities, but will control what information you can access, thereby completely destroying what made the internet what it is today - a level playing field. This is popularly known as the issue of net neutrality, which gained considerable importance in the 2008 U.S. Presidential elections (which hopefully and thankfully ended with the selection of a candidate who is for net neutrality and against allowing giant telecom companies railroad consumers in order for profit). And if you think 'downloading' is important only for people downloading pirated movies, music etc. I urge you to read this page, which describes in brief the variety of legitimate applications that are out there which would be significantly stunted with the implementation of these policies. If you are not on Airtel, don't worry - If Airtel implements this policy, your ISP will follow (soon), which is why this petition is open to all. The internet today is the single most important tool for all the essentials of modern life - communication, education, business, politics etc. etc., and I urge you to not take this matter lightly. A few of us have started an online petition in protest, which we will be sending to Mr. Sunil Bharti Mittal, Chairman & Managing Director, Bharti Airtel Ltd. after we obtain a significant number of signatures. You can find the petition here. Please do read the petition as well as the other information that is on the site, make up your own mind, and sign it if you agree with it. http://afup.broadbandforum.in/ Please do use a valid e-mail address (which will be kept confidential) as you will need to confirm your signature for it to be counted. After signing you will get an e-mail, which is highly likely to be wrongly sent to your SPAM folder. Please check there if it doesn't come in your inbox, and click on the link therein to confirm your signature. We would appreciate it if you can (BCC) forward this e-mail to others who care about the future of the Internet in India. Our thanks in advance. Supporters of net neutrality in India So Airtel has also caught on with RCOM by imitating "Fair Usage Policy".....
  16. Call Diverting Not Working.

^^^ This is exactly what I have mentioned in my post. Read once again.....
  17. Call Diverting Not Working.

^^^ Mr. M S Rao, For unconditional call divert, it is*301 and for not reachable, no reply, call reject call diverts, it is *303. To cancel any kind of call divert, *308. But if you want to cancel only unconditional, *302 and for not reachable *304. Similarly for CD on call busy, it is *305 and to cancel this *306. In all cases except cancellation, add the mobile number or the STD code+LL number. However only within circle numbers can be used for call forwarding and not any STD mobiles or LL numbers. The above procedure will not work for GSM. @mukesh, Did you use a STD number for CD? It will not work or maybe you used a number series (like 90,91,95, 96) which has not been updated by RCOM. Try dialling out that number from your RCOM GSM phone without the '0' and if it goes through, then CD should work properly.
  18. Mvno.... What All It Takes?

^^^ Shashank, you and me do not know the quantum of mobiles sold by sadikk, hence he definitely is better placed to know the market for these high end phones. As a businessman, I also tend to agree with you that a GSM-MVNO will far outsell a CDMA-MVNO anyday. One more thing is the users of these high end phones may travel outside the country and hence they may prefer to have GSM mobiles instead of CDMA. But here again, Sadikk has the BB 8830 which gives the best of both the worlds. So I think Sadikk may have hit the right nail now. @Sadikk, Great !dea or dream or reality!!!! Do not let go of this !dea, pursue it till you succeed.
  19. Call Forward On Bsnl Landline

^^^ One more thing, you can divert all calls to your local mobile only and not to any STD mobile / LL numbers. Secondly the same rule applies for diverts from mobiles also. So, if you are from Kolkata, you have to dial out 114 933xx xxxxx and for cancelling, you have to dial out 115 only. Also, note there is no '0' preceding the mobile number.
  20. Universal Sim Mobile Service

^^^ Dreams never die, keep dreaming!!!!! Jus jokin, bro!!! Hope you do not take it otherwise....
  21. Universal Sim Mobile Service

^^^ Nice dreams but maybe implementable in the distant future only. Never stop dreaming, dreams can turn into reality also... On the flip side, we have to maintain some balance with each and every operator on the SIM? And what about the validity of the balance, 6 monthly minimum recharges, etc etc.
  22. Non SMS Stuff

@ Umesh, all the above are very hilarious. Good ones.... Thanks for the entertainment after such a boring time at RW for the last month or more... Welcome change, wish more and more....
  23. Non SMS Stuff

^^^ Umesh, Good ones, those!!!!! Keep more coming!!!!
  24. ^^^ What use is the above service with RCOM's handsets which offer only very limited SMS inbox capacity? And thik of the number of alerts one gets in a day? Will it not be irritating to get the alert and then delete it to receive the next alert? It will be very useful for GSM handsetsand also Palms, BBs, Moguls etc.... which all have unlimited SMS inbox capacity.
  25. Reliance Mobile Gsm Launches New Frc 101

^^^ Old wine in newest bottle??? First they introduced RC 46 with 20 bucks TT, then they brought it down to 25 with 0 TT and now the same tariffs are introduced with the above RC 101 - the only addition seems to be 100 local free SMS' Seems the honchos at RCOM decided to make use of extra revenues by pricing it higher and offering TT to compensate the low tariffs. Good !deas, what say????
