^^^ AFAIK, I don't think it is possible to know the city/town/district to which a mobile number belongs. Only the state/circle can be found out. Because within a circle/state, a series can be allotted anywhere and not just a city/town/district. Maybe I am wrong, correct me if so.

@ravi, Maybe it is the mobile tracker message.... the ones which a mobile sends itself without the intervention of the user....maybe you changed ruims and hence maybe it has sent to the operator itself when infact it should send to the original owner only who would have programmed it with some cell numbers..... Too many maybe's/ ifs, huh????

^^^ I am not saying they will exit tomorrow, maybe 2 - 3 years down the line. And the data business also can come from 3G, am I right? And why I am saying all this is because they are starting to neglect nowadays the CDMA totally in favour of GSM

^^^ Just hang on, mate... RCOM will definitely not let you go away... Even if they sell off their CDMA business, they will ensure that you will be migrated to GSM. They are waiting for MNP to kick in and most likely, they will exit CDMA maybe in a couple of years.. This is my opinion, others may differ....

^^^ For Chennai/TN, 1. RC61 gets you 750 local SMSs free every day for 30 days. 2. RC 32 gets you 500 local SMSs free valid for 30 days. 3. RC42 gets you 400 local and national SMS valid for 30 days. None of the above are available in CDMA AFAIK.

I have received the latest bill dated 1 May 2009 on which on the right hand side, there is a advt. which is attached herewith. I have not disputed your contention at all. Your letter is dated Feb.'09,maybe RCOM has revised tariffs now, check once again with your sources. Even in SRP200R plan, they say that R2RGSM is not free, but the bill does not charge anything. Similarly in the Plan 995 etc, similar things can happen. And in RCOM alone, the written word has no value at all. Strange it may sound, but it is a fact.

As it is, the numbers are so confusing for most of the people. Why add more confusion and make it 11 digit? Instead the 7 and 8 series can last us for atleast 5 years, maybe more also. Probably the 5 series can also be vacated from Shyam or whatever and allotted to mobiles. The present 9 series has lasted us for more than a decade now. Considering the explosive growth of mobiles recently, maybe the 7,8 and if possible 5 series will last us atleast 5 years or even more.After that some other solution can be worked out.

^^^ The bill copy I received today advertises that in Plan 995, RCDMA mobiles only are free for STD and local. In RCOM, maybe the written word is always wrong and the spoken word is correct. If anyone wants, I will upload the advertisement on the bill.

Even international roaming rates have been steeply revised...they want to make money from the global people....all incoming calls will cost a 100 bucks per minute (as against 50 earlier) and outgoing sms will cost 25 per sms as against 15 per sms earlier. Outgoing calls were not allowed and still not allowed for prepaid. Rcom seems to be better but its available only for post paid and against heavy deposits and monthly rentals apart from call charges which are slightly better than airtel and voda...

In zero rental plan, the kb charges for Chennai/TN are 30ps / 20kb. This was two months back, need to check the current charges once again....

^^^ The above rates are when you buy a new sim... Subsequently you can use RC 45 and enjoyyyyyyy And with the new RC45, you get free R2R mobiles from 11pm to 6am plus 20TT and all the above call charges during daytime... Correct me if I am wrong...

^^^ I think he said call from a wired TATA line to 121. If you call from a mobile or FWP, the required info may not be available. Or maybe its available only in his circle.... Anyone having a wired TATA line here???

^^^ Nothing extraordinary. Airtel, Voda etc are already offering 500 national SMS at Rs 55 to Rs 60 which works out to 11 or 12 paise per SMS. RGSM offers at 11.50 paise per SMS. RCOM has re-defined the pack as local and national SMS. This is bad. The 400 SMS should be only for national SMS usage and not local usage... Anyway, they are just copying the competition, atleast that is commendable....
