  1. @saurav, The new charges mentioned on RCOM's website says 5ps for 10kb, but does not mention any rentals at all. So do we take it as halving of the old rates of 10ps per 10kb? When i asked CC, they said still the old rates are effective and new rates are not yet updated in their systems. As usual, they do not know anything about this issue. They do not understand that one can browse through the mobile itself using WAP. In short, they do not know what is WAP at all.
  2. The new revised rates are updated on rcom's website. The new rentals though are not updated, is it confirmed, @mitj@in or is it just rumours? Check here http://www.reliancemobileworld.co.in/RMWor...es/charges.html Not yet confirmed with CC, as usual they will provide silly answers only.
  3. Ipod Nano Or Ipod Touch?

^^^ I feel Touch is better than Nano. Nano is a little bit outdated now. Touch has wifi, if it is of any use, consider this feature also. And most important the touch OS. To sum it up, its an Iphone minus the phone only. Also one can make VOIP calls, for more info see http://www.rimweb.in/forums/index.php?show...c=16740&hl=
  4. On all mobile phones, you can just remove the battery while your mobile is still in ON condition and the caller will get an "Out of Coverage Area" or "Not Reachable". The SIM/RUIM card can be kept inserted in the phone all the while. But this method will be applicable for all callers and not selective callers. However this way your other RCOM mobile will keep working and you will not need any "jammer", in which case both your mobiles would go off... The method suggested by Amitabh Ranjan above also is quite innovative.
  5. Treo 800 Review

^^^ From his post, it seems apparent that he has used it only for wifi, music and camera...
  6. Please Vote For Rimweb!

    Voted and activated vote also...
  7. ^^^ I had a talk with somebody in the LTO recently. He told me that it may take 1 to 2 months or more for commercial launch in TN/Chennai. And we will not get our existing 93 series numbers on GSM. Maybe after MNP is in force, we may be able to use our old 93 series numbers. This may be one of the reasons for delay in commercial launch. MNP will be in force hopefully from June 2009.
  8. Transferring Contacts From Nokia 6275 To Palm Treo 755

^^^ I think he has already stated in the 1st post that he wants to transfer the details also, so he must be having other fields also for transfer.
  9. Sms Charges For Google Search 9773300000

I got a 500 server error when I clicked on the link you have provided. As for your query on Normal, it means that normal SMS rates will be charged. Suppose the number 9870807070 is a Maha number, then it will be charged at local rates to you but for me it will be free (since I am on DAPO) and for others who do not have any SMS packs on their postpaid numbers, then it will be charged at STD SMS rates if they are from RoI. Hope it is clear to you now. Anyway all this has already been discussed in post#11 above. I don't think 9870807070 belongs to Google, it belongs to SMS_India which is a private SMS channel operated By Rajeev
  10. Restriction To Erecting Mobile Towers

^^^ If everybody starts complaining about the towers next door or in the neighbourhood, then one fine day all cellcos will have to close down. How did the HC and the SC pass such orders? We will have to live only with the good old landlines and be at the mercy of BSNL once again
  11. ^^^ Apparently it is GSM. But maybe I am wrong.
  12. Sms Charges For Google Search 9773300000

^^^ That number is not Google, but SMS India. And normal charges will apply for SMS to that.
  13. ^^^ I too agree with the view that there is a global inclination towards GSM. CDMA will die out maybe in 5 to 10 years max.
  14. Sms Charges For Google Search 9773300000

^^^ Thanks for the clarification. CC or CMO would have not given the correct picture for as long as they could fool customers.
  15. Please suggest me a handset

^^^ And the UIM's SMS capacity is max 30 only....
  16. BSNL is getting better and better by the day.... Lets see what they offer in January. Very wisely, no year has been mentioned and so, it may be 2009 or 2010 (jus jokin) I think a spanner will be thrown in by the private players in the form of some legal issues shortly to prevent BSNL from rolling out 3G services.
  17. Sms Charges For Google Search 9773300000

I will second Drali on this issue. AFAIK, Special numbers are those that start with 5, all other numbers are charged as standard SMS's only. Hence for DAPO and people with SMS60 or SMS25 packs on postpaid will obviously get this service for free. For prepaiders and for postpaiders who do not have any SMS packs, Mumbai and Maha Circle subscribers will be charged at local SMS rates and for RoI subscribers, it will be STD SMS. But then, RCOM is known to do things which confound all. So better check with CC or CMO on this issue. Maybe RCOM will mark 97733 00000 as a special number in their world class error free billing system and start charging everyone Rs 3 for each SMS. But then why would Google opt for a normal 10 digit number when they could have continued with their older 5 or 6 digit number?
  18. ^^^ Take the GSM plunge now (kalpak and hetal and a lot of other RIMwebians have already done it.) No use crying about it or envying the GSM brethren. Convert your existing number if you want it that badly to LT prepaid for incoming only. And invest in GSM goodies and flaunt it. I think most of us on RW have atleast one GSM connection alongside the RCOM ones. But GSM is a little bit more expensive than RCOM always. So the choice is yours to take.
  19. ^^^ It was expected after all. I have been saying that they are not bothered at all for high end customers because to them, fooling hundreds of small customers and making money out of them is better for the company's ARPU rather than bending backwards to a handful of high end customers for whom they have to bend their rules and amend policies. Maybe we will have to wait for extreme competition from TATA, Sistema and other hopeful players in CDMA to make RCOM see the light of the day. Maybe the recession will also give a sound knock on their heads and they may improve thereafter. So until then, there is no point in trying and making them bend their rules and policies for us. RCOM belongs to the Reliance family and there the business logic is to make the most money out of the masses and not out of the classes.... All this does not mean that we should not try out certain things as above, maybe we can somehow convince them after a lot of attempts. So folks, keep trying and hoping for the best.

  21. Pda Bulk Text Messaging Tool

More info on this is available at http://www.freevistafiles.com/Mobile-text-...aging-Tool.html Since I do not have any PDA, I do not know anything about this tool. Lot of people are asking for something like this here, so I thought if this may be useful enough for them. PDA users may try it out and post their experiences here.
  22. Urgent: Particular Technical Feature Requirement

Try LG RD 6600, it has lock features for many things. Check thoroughly before buying it.
  23. Petrol in a diesel engine or vice versa? don't even dream of it.
  24. Wow!!!! Aggressiveness of a kind not yet seen or heard of from a telco as yet in India. How can they suspend your services without even informing you or warning you? This is highly irresponsible on RCOM's part. Agreed that there may be a mistake, but then without any info or warning, suspending services is also equally wrong. I think you will have to take up the matter at the LTO or with the CMO as advised by ashok above.
  25. All criminals and terrorists are becoming more and more tech savvy. Using tech for such wrong purposes is indeed very sad. Hope and wish your brother comes back safe.
