  2. Nokia 8208 Cdma : Coming Soon

^^^ It is Series 40 only, but I wonder why Nokia is still churning out S40 for CDMA (and yet as Sadik has stated above - 8 series is for premium editions only) when they have bought out Symbian fully already. It may be rumours only as yet. Or maybe a 3MP camera may make it premium edition???
  3. @Hetal, me2 but only to RCOM as yet. Lets wait and watch the response they send and then decide. I still feel it is a typo error. It cannot be such a huge jump in tariffs. Anyway, all we can do is to wait and watch.
  4. From the pdfs and the website, it is still not clear whether this applies to all existing or new customers - dapo, L1 etc customers. Supervisor/CC however did tell me this morning that it applies to all customers - existing and new. @kshah, add my 4 connections to the surrender/termination list. RCOM is becoming hopeless now.
  5. Exactly and the Supervisor also told me that the billing would be on real-time basis. This may mean that the UB usage will get updated with the RWorld/WAP usage by the next day. Or does real time basis means something else? And if we have subscribed to detailed bill, do we get the dates, times and durations of each and every WAP usage? or like SMS, so many SMSs have been sent from your mobile, 'our systems are perfect' go to hell sort of scenario will prevail? @ @mitj@in, what about prepaid users? how will they be billed for WAP usage? If nothing comes forth, does it mean they will still be charged only kb usage? Then this is really discriminatory for postpaid users. Can we not protest for silently introducing such charges without even informing us? Does TRAI/DOT/etc allow such silent and abrupt introduction of WAP charges? Or is this outside their ambit?
  6. Rworld/mobile World

Please stop dreaming now onwards. All WAP usage will be billed at atrocious rate of Re 1 per 10 kb plus kb charges. For more detailed info, please visit: http://www.rimweb.in/forums/index.php?show...mp;#entry115598
  7. We Have Lost A Good Member Forever

May his Soul rest in peace.
  8. @rbdhoot, What prathod says is absolutely true. My experience with CC is that they do not know or understand WAP at all. So ask for the supervisor and then post here your findings. It is indeed 1 buck for 10 kb and not 10p/10kb. Enjoy RCOM, man....
  9. I hope that RCOM has made a silly mistake by stating Re 1 per 10 kb instead of 100 kb which may be OK by industry standards. However hopes are only hopes and RCOM being a greedy monolith now, hopes will just vanish. I confirmed with CC - the dumb lady did not know what is WAP, then I asked for a supervisor and that lady after checking the info, told me whatever @mitj@in has already stated. SO, the bad news is that we can use RCOM only for voice services - mo more SMS, no more data, no more WAP etc etc. Enjoy RCOM like never before. And yes lest I forget, junk all your PPCs, high end phones and join in the Classic celebrations at Rs 777 or still below and be happy forever. ADA does not want us to buy these super high end phones at all. I am lucky that I did not buy any PPC as yet, though my 2 year old 6265 has almost given up and I was really tempted to go in for either a PPC or a Treo. I feel it is the right time to quit RCOM and be done with RCOM's ludicrous, avaricious 2 steps forward and 5 steps backward syndrome for once and for all. It has happened so many times in the last 5+ years that it has become a habit of sorts for RCOM. JUNK RCOM once and for all.
  10. Help?

A simpler way out is to dry out the wet area with a hair dryer, but do not keep hair dryer on full heat. Or else the board etc may melt. And yes keep the flow of hot air at a safe distance (maybe 1 feet). After a day or a couple of days, shake the handset for any more water. If after this also, the handset does not start, keep the same in the direct hot sun for a full day (of course in off state only). After this is done, if necessary, go to Nokia ASC and complain about the handset giving some other problem, but do not tell that the set was soaked in water. Maybe if you have a warranty, they will repair or replace it.
  11. Removing R Menu From Right Soft Key

Try pressing '0' for a couple of seconds and your R World will shoot up.
  12. Fantastic collection - aks, dr.ali and good link vikas. Thanks and keep more coming.
  13. Antivirus - Need To Buy One

    @sadikbhai, me2 Thanks
  14. Can You Read This?

    Can you read this in first attempt???? .. . ... . . . . . . . . . . . Close your eyes almost 90% so that you can actually read it Its really superb!!!!
  15. ^^^ Interesting changes. But RCOM is the pioneer of 50 ps to any phone in your circles. And at 49, they also provide onnet at 33ps, which Airtel may not be providing. And is the tariff change of Airtel only for Delhi and NCR or the RoI also? As for Tata, their userbase is low and hence they can afford free STD to any TATA phone. Offnet STD should have been 1 buck to make it more attractive. Another interesting observation w.r.t Chennai / TN circle of RCOM Jadoo 49, 98 etc is that these are being treated as paired circle and not single circle. Hence calls to other LLs of TN from Chennai are charged at STD rates of 1.50 and vice versa for calls to other LLs of Chennai from TN. This is in contrast to the postpaid offers where all LLs are charged at 49ps under LP49. When they introduced LP49, all calls to any phone across Chennai/TN were charged at 49 ps only but now they say that these are paired circles.
  16. Go Swadeshi

My experience with BSNL BB help levels at the higher exchange has been excellent so far. I have had many problems with the speeds and over the phone itself, the Div.Engnr sorts it out. Of course it helps that I am able to tweak my system as per their advise. It is indeed excellent that a public sector organisation has such DEs who sort out problems over the phone itself. In contrast, I had Hathway earlier and I do not think I should even attempt any comment on their services. It was pathetic and hopeless. Elsewhere on this forum, a lot has been written about Hathway. Now I understand that they may have improved. I will still not touch them, I'd rather be without any BB service than fall into their trap once again. And about BSNL's GSM service in Chennai, I do not think it is as good as other pvt telcos. And yes, I agree with Himanshu's point about walkins into any WW. It is horrible.
  17. Fly Launches Dual Sim Handsets

Their website is http://www.flyphone.in. But the above dual mode models are not mentioned there.
  18. Go Swadeshi

^^^ Himanshu, I presume is from Delhi and maybe MTNL is better there. So since younger brother (MTNL) is doing very good now, he has assumed that elder brother (BSNL) may also be doing fine now. The reality is starkly different, I fully agree with you. It may be good in bits and pieces but I will not be patriotic enough to try venturing into any Chennai BSNL exchange for getting things done. OT, However for BB, I will definitely vouch for BSNL's services. This is again very, very area specific.
  19. Nokia 1508/1508i

^^^ Exactly, It may cost around 4k as I said earlier. As usual, Nokia will price it very high.
  20. Can You Read This?

^^^ Thanks Arun, Ani, Vijay Malhotra, Rajat Amit and Venkit.
  21. Can You Read This?

^^^ Thanks and now its better. How did you do this?
  22. Go Swadeshi

MTNL may be good with attractive plans but big brother BSNL is still enjoying their sleep and has nothing good to offer yet. They are still tying themselves in knots because they do not have enough network capacity. The private telcos have greased the babus amply well and they will never come out with attractive plans. Even Southern Railways has now switched over to Airtel and junked BSNL despite 15 secs billing.
  23. Can You Read This?

Yes its true, maybe if the size of the image was not reduced here, it would have been very difficult to read it in the first attempt. Maybe the Mods/Admins can do something to increase the image size here and make it unreadable. he he!!!
  24. Paying hefty mobile bill? Probably a Trojan! NEW DELHI: Got an inflated mobile bill? Wondering who made all those extra calls? Well, it’s probably a Trojan! Your mobile could be under a Trojan attack and that’s why you never came to know about the misuse till the bill arrived. Hackers are now making merry with mobile phone networks, inventing new Trojans to send to mobile phones. The latest Trojans (like, a malicious code masked as a genuine message), making rounds in the global and Indian mobile networks are helping the premium adult calling and marketing sites based in the US to rake in more money. Corporate spying is also gaining traction with corporate rivals hiring detective agencies to track rival corporate’s emails on GPRS phones (2.5G). Mobile Trojans are programmes which can compromise address book and other data stored in a mobile or PDA phone. A mobile phone Trojan can sneak into your mobile phone when you download a ringtone via internet or click on a malicious SMS in the phone’s inbox. The latest premium-calling Trojans, however, attack just to gain financially. The infected handsets start dialing ISD premium (dating or adult calling) numbers which are billed at a very high rate, especially at night. Premium rate services in the UK range from £0.10/min to £1.50/min. In US, they can cost up to $5 per minute. These numbers are primarily used by horoscopes/psychics sites, phone sex, online gambling, contest voting, lottery, dating and party lines. The subscriber gets to know only when he or she receives a huge bill at the end of the month or when he wakes up in the morning and finds a low balance. “We often get these billing related cases,” confirms an official of a GSM operator. Other channels of Trojan infection apart from Bluetooth can be via USB ports, internet surfing and SMS/MMS. Some of the common Trojans these days are SymbOS.Sendtool built for Nokia phones. Once infected, this Trojan spreads via bluetooth to all nearby Bluetooth devices. CDropper is another family of Trojans which can replace your mobile phone software. Infojack is a Trojan built for Windows Mobile. Trojans can also steal your address phone book or send a marketing or nasty SMSs to all your phone contacts. To spy on corporate honchos, a Trojan can sit on a BlackBerry device and keep on sending all corporate mails to other devices. According to estimates there are about 300 mobile phone Trojans on the loose. Other Trojans are just built to freeze and delete all information from mobile. Mobile phone firms are trying hard to get better of the hackers. For instance, to secure your phone, you can download a 875 kb F-secure software on Nokia phones. BlackBerry is also offering advanced features to block attacks. Users of non-GPRS phones are, however, less likely to be affected as Trojans require some amount of memory (about 160 bytes) and attack mostly JAVA-enabled phones. var RN = new String (Math.random()); var RNS = RN.substring (2,11); b2 = ' '; if (doweshowbellyad==1) bellyad.innerHTML = b2; Source: The ET
  25. Anil Ambani-led consortium eyes 51 pc stake in MTN 3 Jul, 2008, 1609 hrs IST, PTI LONDON/NEW DELHI: Seeking to thwart any possible legal challenge from Mukesh Ambani-led RIL, the Anil Ambani group firm RCOM is tying up with some global private equity and sovereign funds for acquiring a majority stake in South African telecom major MTN, a report said today. "A consortium led by Indian billionaire Anil Ambani is considering taking a majority stake in South African mobile operator MTN to help stave off a potential legal challenge from his elder brother, Mike's Ambani, to the deal that has been under discussion," a report in Financial Times said. The report quoted an unnamed person familiar with the deal that a special purpose vehicle controlled by Anil Ambani with co-investment from global private equity and Middle East sovereign wealth funds would own 51 per cent of MTN under the proposed new structure. Earlier reports had said that it could be MTN acquiring a majority stake in RCOM, after which Reliance Industries warned off a legal action in letters sent to South African telecom firm and RCOM, claiming such a deal would breach a right of first refusal it has over the sale of a controlling stake in the Anil Ambani group company. A possible amalgamation deal between RCOM and MTN, exclusive discussions for which started between the two parties late in May, could create a combined entity worth an estimated 70-80 billion dollars. According to the Financial Times report, the old structure had Anil Ambani and his co-investors planning to acquire a 40-45 per cent stake, against about 51 per cent being discussed now. This new structure will require a much larger cash top up from private equity firms of about 10-11 billion dollars, about three times the level earlier expected, the report said. Separately, sources in the know of the development in India told PTI that hit by uncertainties caused due to the feud between Ambani siblings, RCOM and MTN are now believed to be discussing an extension of exclusivity agreement between them by a few weeks. Investors in both the companies looked concerned about the legal issues raised by RIL and the same is being reflected in continuous slide in the share prices of the two companies, sources said. African telecom giant MTN's share price fell to a three-month low of 118 rand yesterday, while shares of RCOM has also dropped by about a quarter in the last three months. RCOM shares were trading at Rs 392, down 6.31 per cent on the Bombay Stock Exchange in afternoon trade today. Reliance Communications and MTN had announced the start of 45-day long exclusive discussions on May 26, which is scheduled to end on July 8. Sources in the know of development said that the two sides are discussing the possibility of extending the agreement by 2-3 weeks amid indications the same could be spelled out in the coming days. Reliance Communications officials declined to comment on the development. RIL had earlier written a letter to both the companies asserting its right of first refusal on majority stake in Reliance Communications, but these claims are being contested by the Anil Ambani group.
