  1. ^^^ The dateline of the news report says 4 March 2008. But it could be possible that it was reported 2 years late!!! Anything is possible nowadays..... And yes qualcomm/american control is killing the development of CDMA handsets.
  2. Discount In Bill

^^^ As usual, you will have to get the "SMS" from them. If you do not get the same, you are ineligible for this offer. Really ridiculous offer from RCOM. And as commonman said above, the target value is 30-40% higher than your last 3 months average. So they want you to use more and get a paltry 7% discount in the 1st bill and then subsequently when you clock the same usage for another 3 months, you will get the 2nd 7% discount in your 4th or 5th month's bill. Cheap discount strategy, no one will utilise this at all for the paltry benefit.
  3. Discount In Bill

^^^ This is postpaid. Sorry for not informing about that. Are you on prepaid?
  4. Bsnl Launches 2mbps For Rs.125

I agree with kshah on this issue. I have a BSNL BB-2mbps connection at home and my little son uses it the most to play online games, check emails etc. Of course he is allowed to use the computer only on weekends and not daily. The usage for the last two months have been 257 MB in Jan.'08 and 140 MB in Feb.'08. The usage in Feb was lower because of exams. IMHO, For limited usage, this is a good plan. In any case, no one else offers credible plans in 2mbps. BSNL could have been a bit more realistic at 300 to 400 MB downloads for this plan.
  5. ^^^ But from your office or any other line, you will still be paying. Go on Mr. SDC, no one will stop you from adding to your existing providers bills just to add balance to your new Virgin mobile. Ha HA hA..... Or will you get free onnet from Virgin as well????
  6. Do Not Disturb Policy

AfaIK, it is available in all GSM phone networks. It is called Call Barring - either incoming or outgoing - many options are there. You have to set your PIN2. Also a call barring password is required from the service provider. Maybe in prepaids, some operators do not offer this facility. Voda for instance in Chennai used to offer this facility even in prepaids, but all of a sudden, on some RCOM-like whims, withdrew it and said it causes some network disturbances. Atleast they provide some explanations - can one get any such thing from RCOM? Not even ADA will let you know. Probably DHA would have been more open, ha ha ha....
  7. Do Not Disturb Policy

^^^ Thanks, kshah for the link. Is police/home ministry permission really required? From what is mentioned on their website, I amke it out as if RCOM can extend CLIR facility, based on fixed criteria: - Availability of this facility is governed by Government of India regulations. This facility is not granted automatically, and Reliance Communications reserves the right to grant this facility only to certain subscribers, based on fixed criteria. The GoI regulations may be there, but eventually RCOM has to decide about extending this facility, finally. SkyCell (prior to being sold to Airtel) in Chennai were offering this facility free to all subscribers. Even Airtel, Chennai used to give this facility till atleast 2003 when I switched over to RCOM. This was possible by selecting the "Hide your number" in the security settings on a GSM phone. There are 3 options - 'show your number', 'hide your number' and 'set by network' in a GSM phone. Now I think Airtel, Chennai is no longer offering this facility - to new as well as existing subscribers. Of course the terrorism angle is always there.
  8. Do Not Disturb Policy

@amit jain, The DND you have referred to is not the Do not Call one. It refers to the earlier days in March -April 2003 when you could set your mobile to not receive any incoming calls at all by dialling some code *315 or something. I don't remember the exact code, but it was withdrawn permanently for all subscribers. You will find a similar page for postpaid subscribers also - akin to what you have shown for prepaid subscribers. RCOM (or for that matter any other operator) cannot go against TRAI. Please check with your sources in RCOM and revert if I am correct in my assumption for DND. You will also notice from the page you have referred that the next line clearly states DNC/NDNC - this is the one which means Do not Call / National Do Not call registry. BTW, can you please let me know how to get CLIR - I want for both my postpaid mobiles which I have right from Feb.'03. What are the eligibility criteria? And charges, if any? Also can the DND facility be made available now for postpaid or prepaid, if yes, charges? Thanks.
  9. VodaFone has finally launched Rs 251 LT voucher in Chennai/TN with usage of all Bonus Recharges. It has finally woken up after RCOM, Aircel stormed the market. Still RCOM rocks because they offer Onnet at 33ps and all offnet at 49ps on a J49 recharge whereas with Voda you can use Bonus 59 to get onnet at 30ps and all other mobiles at 49ps and all other landlines at 99ps plus STD at 1.50pm. RCOM LT users can activate RIC and enjoy lower STD and roaming rates. This is much better. Voda LT users can also activate local SMS for daily 1 buck rent and daily 100 local SMSs at 5 paise or daily 3 bucks rental and 500 free local SMSs per day. So for 900 free local SMSs you end up paying only 90 bucks. But in RCOM, you get 5000 free local SMSs for just 30 bucks, you can add as and when you require. Here again RCOM is better.
  10. Cheaper Data Cards

^^^ wait one more year+ for your dream LCD monitors
  11. Nokia 6275 Problem: Range Is Showing Very Low

It looks more like a handset issue, so please go to NOKIA ASC and get it checked up. Maybe they say it will take 20 to 40 days, but in reality, they may also do it on the spot if it is minor problem. Try your luck.
  12. Cheaper Data Cards

I doubt if the telcos will provide data cards or usb cards at Rs 2500 with immediate effect. They will take atleast some 3 to 4 months to effect the reduction, by which time there will be some more reductions in the hardware costs also. So they will eat up either of the two benefits and make more money.
  13. ^^^ In addition to the above info, readers please note that Aircel allows you to use only one RC card. You cannot use two RCcards to reduce your call charges and SMS charges simultaneously. This way, I think RCOM is far better off. Aircel also insists on rs 100 compulsory recharge every six months. whereas RCOM insists on Rs 200 TT (effectively Rs 230 recharge) You can use super Etopup RCOM vouchers to get full TT Rs 55 Etopuo gets you Rs 55 TT, Rs 201 gets you Rs 201, Rs 301 gets you Rs 333 plus 30 local SMS free and Rs 501 gets you Rs 555 TT. You can also use SMS voucher of Rs 30 (500 local SMS free) in RCOM in addition to the Jadoo RC of 33 or 49. Plus you can use calling cards to reduce your STD rates. All in all RCOM is way ahead of Aircel. Lastly, network congestion was most horrible in Aircel sometime back, the current position I don't know.
  14. NEW DELHI: The rollout plans of the new entrants in 18 circles are set to get delayed. The Department of Telecom (DoT) has decided to await the outcome of the various court cases on spectrum allocation before allotting radio frequencies to the new entrants in 18 of the 22 telecom circles in the country. The move comes as the Wireless Planning and Coordination (WPC) wing of the DoT has pointed out that if the order at which companies are allotted spectrum were to be changed based on the outcome of the court rulings, then it will be ‘impossible to get back spectrum from the earlier allottees and give it to the new ones’. Besides, the WPC has also said that in these 18 circles, there would not be sufficient spectrum to award to any company that wins court cases if start-up spectrum is given to the new entrants. The WPC has also added that such a scenario may cause ‘avoidable embarrassment’. At the same time, WPC has asked the DoT to allot spectrum to all the new entrants in the remaining four circles — Andhra, Kerala, Orissa and Tamil Nadu (including Chennai), where queue for radio frequencies will be based on the order by which the companies had paid the licence fee. The logic: It is only in these four circles that there is enough spectrum to accommodate all the nine new players and also meet the requirements of existing ones. Last month, in a sudden change of policy, DoT said that spectrum will be awarded to the nine new entrants based on who paid the entry fee first. This change of policy by DoT resulted in the pecking order for allocating spectrum being changed, and companies such as Videocon-owned Datacom and Swan headed the new queue for radio frequencies as they made the payments first. This also implied that companies such as Idea and Spice which headed the earlier queue for spectrum lost their lead positions. As per the earlier existing first-come-first-served policy, priority for spectrum was based on the date of licence. This led to Idea Cellular and Spice dragging DoT to both TDSAT as well as the Delhi HC against what they termed as ‘faulty implementation of the first-come-first-served policy’ in the issue of spectrum by DoT. Besides, there are several other cases that are pending in the courts. Parsvnath Developers, whose application was disqualified by DoT has also approached the Delhi HC. If Delhi HC were to uphold Parsvnath’s plea, then the company’s position in the queue for spectrum will be ahead of many of the other LoI holders. Another case is that of Swiss company ByCell. This company was not awarded LoIs last month as its application was held up for lack of security clearance, which was held up due to a fake complaint by an MP to the Prime Minister’s office. The MP later said that the complaint was forged. “In view of the ByCell case and the court’s interim directions in the case of Parsvnath Developers, the priority of licence to some of the new entrants is subject to final decision/orders,” WPC has told DoT. 15. ^^^ Too bad, all media in India is mostly owned by foreigners only. Only EENADU is I suppose wholly owned by a Hindu. Chennai's 'The Hindu' is also sold out to some foreigners. Too Bad. Chennai's 'New Indian Express' is mercifully still owned by marwaris. Well this is what is meant by globalisation or is it 'sell out' to foreigners.
  16. Htc Shift Comming For Cdma

Great Looking UMPC with WoW features!!!
  17. Software/firmware Upgrade For Nokia 6265/6275 Cdma

^^^ Jabir, your version is older than the one reported by vishal in post #22 above. Check with NCC and see if they update your version, maybe they will charge you something and keep your mobile with them for 20 to 25 days. Unless of course you know someone at the very top. Other readers, Anyone having a version newer than the one i Reported in post # 18 above?
  18. Software/firmware Upgrade For Nokia 6265/6275 Cdma

^^^ Hey Vishalkumar, you are lucky, it appears. Nokia Care sent you the correct file version. Maybe in my case, they just goofed it up. Anyway, the version on my 6265 reads: - V HL190V0600.nep 26-05-06 RM-66 © NMP. The above can be got from Menu-Settings-Phone Details-Version Details-Software Version. BTW, the Hardware version is 6000. Is Hardware the same as Firmware or is Firmware same as Software? Thanks. Other 6265 users may report their version here. I do not know if my version and the one reported by Nokia as above are the same.
  19. Lightweight Color Phone.

^^^ Cheap plasticky feel, no doubt. But then its the best phone available today. Much better than the lousy Classic phones. and yes the price is very attractive indeed.
  20. Ha Ha Ha Do you think Idea is here for the service or for the money? They will keep the rates intact; whosoever wants the service can pay so much for this. Nothing less. This is a brilliant Idea after all, huh!!!
  21. WOW!!! Thats some news. Hope our GSM gangsters do not read it, otherwise they will start floating balloons everywhere and then their coverage will improve so vastly that our own RCOM's 'Total Network' will no longer hold true.
  22. Lightweight Color Phone.

Go in for LG RD 3000 at Rs 1300 or LGRD 3100 at Rs 1700 apprx. These are the only good phones available in RCOM currently in your budget range. All other phones have very poor battery life, poor features etc. Do not go in for Classic at all.
  23. Ztc S688

^^^ Hows the OS and the UI for SMS and WAP apart from music, camera, etc? What about the battery life in standby and Talktime? Have you used both CDMA or both GSM or CDMA+GSM? Is it RUIM enabled?
  24. Forgot Password On Nokia 6255 Mmc Card

^^^ I was unsuccessful doing it every which way I could. Finally I went to Nokia ASC and they told me that the card was incompatible with Nokia and it will not work. I had to buy another card. They will not believe you if you say that you were using the same card on your phone for so long. Cards are nowadays very cheap, go in for a new one. But take your phone along and check the card's working before you buy it. Try moving files to and fro and some pictures, take some photos directly onto the card memory, etc. All the Best.
  25. Forgot Password On Nokia 6255 Mmc Card

Only Nokia ASC can help you out. But be prepared to leave your handset with them for 15 - 25 days and still pay a charge also. Another option would be to use the card on another phone provided the PW is known. But in your case, since you have forgotten the PW itself, I doubt if anything can be done at all. Maybe if the data on the MMC is not of much use, maybe you can format on another phone. Because 6255/65/75 phones do not format properly AFAIK.
