Which Is The Best Cell With Long Battery Backup?
KumaarShah replied to Anbarasan's topic in Other handsets
I agree with ani on LG 3000. Its a good h/s with ltd features and the battery life is good (I would say the best in LG). Its available at less than half your budget. The voice clarity also is very good. -
If your STD SMS usage is very high and you can justify the cost of DAPO, then nothing to beat it. DAPO may cost you a minimum of Rs 5k. Try posting in the Buy/Sell bazaar for DAPO.

Ver 2.0.0.6 is working fine with me also. Maybe you have installed some add-ons which are conflicting with the browser. Check on that.

Multimedia handsets for less than $20 Dutch firm NXP Semiconductor launches low-cost single chip solution Our Bureau New Delhi, Sept. 4 Soon you could get a colour mobile handset which offers an MP3 player, FM radio and removable flash memory card for about $20 (approx Rs 800). Netherlands-based semi conductor firm NXP has launched a new single chip solution that promises to make this happen. The chipset also makes the handset dual mode which allows mobile subscribers to use both GSM and CDMA based services on the same device. Low-cost initiative Called Nexperia PNX4903, the chipset is part of NXP’s Ultra Low-Cost Handset (ULCH) initiative. Single chip solutions integrate a number of functions into smaller units which not only reduces the size of the handset but also brings down the cost of manufacturing the device. While traditional multi-chip handset designs require three times the number of external components on a more complex printed circuit board, single chip allows a complete handset to be realised with just 49 external components on a low-cost, four-layer printed circuit board. Other technology majors such as Qualcomm and Infineon have also launched similar single chipsets for handsets. NXP claimed that its chipset was the most cost-effective solution available for multimedia-enabled low-cost handsets. “As wireless connectivity continues to proliferate across the globe, the definition of an ‘Ultra Low-Cost’ handset is rapidly evolving along with the expectations of consumers. Entry-level users in places like China, India and Latin America now desire the same value-added applications available in today’s more mature wireless markets,” said Mr Diwakar Vishakhadatta, Vice-President, Entry-level Products, Business Line Cellular Systems, NXP Semiconductors. “In light of this evolution, NXP has introduced the Nexperia PNX4903 ULC+ solution to raise the bar for ULC handsets and bring new features like high-quality music playback to users while still meeting the same level of affordability and performance necessary in emerging markets.” The company is targeting the rural market in India for the chip solution. Rural market focus “During the next phase of rapid expansion of mobile communications in the rural and semi-urban areas of India, NXP would like to fulfil the aspirations of first-time handset users by offering the next experience in multimedia at a ULC price point,” said Mr Ashok Chandak, Director of Global Sales, NXP Semiconductors India. ^^^ I agree with you on that. But why RCL does not allow 3rd party phones on their network? Is there some security issue or some loopholes to call free? he he! -
^^^ Sorry about that, but I wanted to know from you on the above aspect. I do not own a dual phone as yet and hence I may not be able to help you out. You may elaborate on my query, if possible. Thanks.

Both RCL and Hutch networks are on always? I mean if you are on Hutch and you get a call on your RCL number, can you alternate between the two networks? or maybe initiate a Call Conference?
-
Try with LG ASC in your area. It might be available for PC Sync atleast. Because if it was not, then what is the socket for?

If for eg you store 93 1234 5678 as one entry and another entry having 98 1234 5678, then also this problem occurs. Nokia only matches the last seven digits, thats why this problem occurs. Another of Nokia OS's major problem. Check your phone book again and see if you have the last seven digits matching with the one stored by you recently. You will have the culprit.

^^^ It may just be that some people did not report about the explosions earlier but now that Nokia has already issued an advisory, one sees a lot more reports of battery explosions etc. Coming to the explosions part, will Nokia offer compensation to the affected people or not? @coolrajiv, What I meant by "not panicking" was actually that people should not flock Nokia's ASCs and create a ruckus for replacement of their batteries. The whole replacement process would take some time obviously. And if one's battery is among the defective lot, should they stop using their mobiles or buy another battery temporarily till Nokia replaces theirs? People can feel the phone/battery heating up just before explosion or does it just explode without any heating? In such cases, people may put away their mobiles / batteries. And in any case, Nokia's advisory does not state anything about the batteries exploding at all. They have merely stated that some batteries may heat up while being charged. Anyway, life is still more precious than a mobile and hence, people having affected batteries may please get it replaced immediately and in the interim, they can stop using their mobiles, right?

^^^ raccoon, It is available under Call Logs in all S60 phones of Nokia. Nokia's S40 however has no such facility till date. You are absolutely right when you state that it is convenient for all GSM and CDMA telcos that this basic facility is not available.

'Killer' SMS hoax doing rounds 23 Aug 2007, 0001 hrs IST,TNN MUMBAI: On Wednesday, an SMS started doing the rounds of cellphones. It urged people not to accept calls from a few numbers listed in the message. If a call originated from any of these numbers, the message said, it would show up on their cellphone screens in red. On taking the call, the message added, a high-frequency sound would emanate. It could cause the brain to haemorrhage and even kill. "27 persons died just on receiving these calls from these numbers," it added for good measure. "Inform to al your friends relatives soon," it concluded. A few TV channels fell for the hoax. That translated into breathless anchors telling their equally beady-eyed viewers what numbers not to accept calls from. The message gained credibility. In public interest, though, The Times of India bravely dialled the five numbers listed in the message. This writer survived to tell the tale. Three numbers do not exist. But two do. Both, however, went unanswered. Chances are, those who own the numbers have stopped taking calls, exasperated by a few hundred curious bravehearts. That said, as far as hoaxes go, this particular one has an interesting history. In June 2004, an email started doing the rounds of the internet. It claimed to be a "confidential, internal document" leaked from Nokia's headquarters and was purportedly signed by the company's CEO Jorma Ollila. The note said: "It is my sad duty to inform you that these rumours are true." A few paragraphs of assorted rubbish later, the note ended on an ominous note. "As far as I am concerned, the loss of life is an acceptable risk we must face, in order to sell our products and keep our business alive." The prankster who created the email was inspired by a 2002 Hollywood flick called The Ring. It didn't take much for the e-mail to find its way into the internet's Museum of Hoaxes. Still archived on technology websites like Gizmodo, the urban legend now elicits a few chuckles. But stories, like cockroaches, don't die easy. A few months later, it resurfaced in Nigeria and spread like wildfire. A few weeks of pacifying later, life got back to normal, and the story went back to history. Two years later, it came back to life in Pakistan. This time around, though, the message claimed 20 people had died. The Pakistani clergy took this as a sign from above. Many mosques in Karachi started to warn the faithful of God's wrath. It took a joint effort by telecom operators in Pakistan to assuage people's fears and give the story one more burial. But the story simply jumped borders and invaded Afghanistan. An angry government quickly blamed the Taliban for stoking fear. At a press conference called by the authorities to squash the SMS, a spokesperson for Afghanistan's interior ministry said: "I find it necessary to assure people that the rumour spreading around the city is absolute nonsense. It is the work of the enemy." While it is not known how the Taliban responded to the accusation, the story found its way to Kuwait, and is now on Indian soil. ^^^ the reason is obvious - 1. most of us at RW have only LG or Samsung or Nokia or Classic etc and not UT PPCs which gives unlimited SMS storage. 2. Elsewhere in this forum, I have posted about the draining away of battery life by continuous incoming and outgoing SMS's, so its better not to SMS at all. 3. Moreover with the recent withdrawal of ONnet SMS packs, only people having DAPO connections (and SP. C&P, if still available) can survive here. 4. Sending SMS's on Reliance is very time consuming unlike in GSM. 5. If one sends a LMS it gets mis-delivered - one may receive 1st and 3rd part or 2nd and 3rd part or only one part or sometimes all parts. It is laborious to use SMS on RCL. 6. It is better, faster, economical and reliable to use GSM for SMS. Some Airtel corporate plans offer 10000 national SMS free, check in your circles for such plans and enjoy. 7. If you get some business SMS's, you may lose out some very important SMSs, if your inbox is always full. 8. RCL is not SMS savvy at all and wants to earn more money from Voice services and hence they are charging the nation's highest SMS tariffs. It is ironical as they were the ones to start with full free SMS nationally. I am unable to recall some more valid reasons. I myself used to send out 12000 to 15000 SMSs every month, now I have come down to around 6000 to 8000 per month and I am constantly trying to bring it down to around 1000. Then I will switch over to some other tariff plan.

I am able to use Opera and browse all sites still. I do not know about Skype - maybe it is illegal or something, I don't know. I even browse RW most comfortably on my 6265 when I do not get sleep at nights. But yes, I agree, RCL will not allow its subscribers to enjoy freely. Some day or the other, it will stop free WAP services altogether.

Kids below 16 may find it hard to own a mobile DoT formulating guidelines to protect users against electromagnetic radiation ‘The tissues of children are tender and, therefore they are likely to be more affected by use of mobile phones’ Thomas K. Thomas New Delhi, Aug. 23 The Department of Telecom does not want children below 16 years to own a mobile phone. As per draft guidelines for complying with limits for human exposure to electromagnetic fields prepared by the Telecommunication Engineering Centre — the technical wing of the DoT — mobile operators will be asked to discourage children from taking a connection. The reason: Mobile phones radiate electromagnetic energy that heats up the tissues, which may cause health hazards. “The tissues of children are tender and therefore they are likely to be more affected by use of mobile phones. Children below 16 years age should be discouraged from using mobile phones,” says the draft guidelines. The TEC has also suggested putting stringent norms for rolling out base stations and antennas, including asking operators to install radio base stations away from schools and hospitals. “In India, the growth of mobile telephones is very high. Consequently, this may result in large number of installation of base station antennas on towers serving very large number of mobile telephones. Under such scenario, the intensity of cumulative effect of electromagnetic fields present may be appreciable and may cause undesired effects on human beings. In order to safeguard humans against the possible undesired effects of electromagnetic radiations, there is immediate need for issuing the guidelines,” the TEC proposal says. The mobile operators are opposing the proposals. “Any over-precautionary approach, or statement lacking scientific evidence can impede the growth of cellular mobile telephony in the country. It is pertinent to mention that there is over five decades of research (1,700 studies on biological and health effects of radio frequency fields and 400 studies on biological and health effects of mobile communication radio frequencies). “The general consensus of these studies is that there is no conclusive and definitive evidence of established effects on health at exposure levels below the safety limits prescribed by various international bodies and endorsed by WHO,” said the Cellular Operators Association of India. However, DoT sources pointed that WHO has suggested adoption of a precautionary approach. Many countries such as Canada, the US, European Union, Australia, Japan and China have accepted and implemented this precautionary approach in different forms, said the official.

Trai Objects To Hike In Tariffs
KumaarShah replied to coolrajiv's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
Hutch, Chennai prepaid have revised their SMS tariffs from today 23.08.07 as follows: - All local SMS will be chargeable at re 0.05 per SMS (They now call it unltd SMS) at Re 1 daily rentals. Earlier it used to cost Re 0.01 at 100 free local SMSs at a daily rental of rs 1. Now the same 100 local SMS will cost Re 0.06 per SMS. (Re 0.05 plus Re 0.01 for the daily Re 1 rental) I am assuming that one will use only 100 local SMS per day. So effectively Hutch, Chennai has upped the SMS rates six times from Re. 0.01 to Re. 0.06 per SMS. This is too much, anyway nobody will complain. Maybe its time for SMS freaks to move over to BSNL where they offer unltd local SMS at Re 1 daily rentals. However, their call rates are higher. Hope TRAI / DOT / Govt. takes some stern action soon. -
Youtele.com.. 2mbps For Rs.250

^^^ they approached me just a couple of days back. -
Whatever said and done, AFAIK, atleast the seller should not evade people's call's and sms's. He can always say that there is no guarantee and that the buyer can get it repaired himself and maybe offer to inform about the place and location of nearest repairs. I am only generalising and not talking about any specific individual here.

No Ext memory? But good price for features and looks, though.

Youtele.com.. 2mbps For Rs.250
KumaarShah replied to copperco2's topic in Other Broadband Discussion
Exactly same as BSNL including the modem rentals. Even RCL is providing BB wo phone line now. The rentals are Rs 299 for 1GB abnd 2mbps speeds and the second plan is similar. They even have 4.5MBPS speed plans for Rs 799 and 1499. Check RCL's website about this. The modem rental is inbuilt in Rs 299. There is no need for telephone line. If in future we want it, we can ask them for it. RCL is cheaper than BSNL by Rs 11 per month. No idea about the speeds, though. Another thing their SE told me was that they install a new server for every 24 connections in any one area. This ensures the speeds are atleast 80% always. Thereotically it means you will always get 1.6mbps speeds. There is no installation charges if you provide bill copies of other ISPs in your name and address. -
