Is it that easy to just insert a Ruim card into any ruim enabled phone and start talking / sms'ing etc? AFAIK, it is not that easy. If such were the case then a lot of other high end CDMA phones available in USA would have been usable here. Maybe I am wrong, let the techies here decide on this issue. But yes, LG can launch the handsets in India independent of RCL
-
But these will not be available for RCL as RCL has stopped selling LG products.
-
^^^ according to your SMS plan tariffs, it will be charged or be free.

You have strong feelings against Nokia because of your bad experiences with them. I have stated as per my experiences with NOKIA ASC. Believe me, you have to shout and create a ruckus, only then things move at Nokia. Maybe Chennai is Nokia HQ thats why they are quite OK here. However much you may state to the contrary, Nokia will always remain number one because of their easy UI. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. I never stated anything about Moto's display. And the UI of LG, I referred to was only for SMS. And I have stated about the battery life of GSM phones being better than CDMA, what is wrong in comparing that? I fully agree with you on the above. Yes I have also noticed and agree with you about the basic versus upper end phones. As regards the voice clarity, I have no issues with you. For all that I know, you may be right fully.

^^^ any links, which website? Nokia website search says "not found"

Also available at the same above mentioned website are the following models : - Nokia 1265 CDMA Nokia 1325 CDMA Nokia 6088 CDMA Nokia 7088 CDMA All the above are plain jane phones, with mediocre features. Hope the prices also would be mediocre. All the above are in the upcoming models. And many other CDMA phones are also in the current models. Thanks

Go in for a nokia even though raccoon may have had a bad experience. Maybe the handset you buy for your mom would not have that many problems, so dont worry. Nokia has the best UI amongst all other phones. It would be easy to use for your mom atleast. And the battery life of most brands of GSM phones are much much better compared to CDMA always. So go in for a brand which has the most ruggedness, ease of use and economical. On all these counts, Nokia wins hands down. Of course, there is the ASC problem always with Nokia. But one has to create a ruckus in the ASC and only then things move. In India you have to shamefully do all this to get your work done. You remain calm and composed, you will go nowhere. As far as Moto is concerned, have you ever seen the recent calls list on any Moto ? you will not be able to tell whether you received or missed a call. take a close look at all features before you decide on moto. And yes I agree with raccoon on LG also. LG has excellent voice clarity, I have one LG C3400 which my wife is using for the last two years and no problems. Only problem with that phone is the SMS UI which is really horrible. Since you do not require SMS, LG may also suit your needs. But please check thoroughly before you jump in for any brand. Thanks

^^^ Thanks a lot, kingshuk for your reply. But then the universal lock code "123" is a real dampener. There is just no sense in offering the lock code in that case. As regards the 11 digit emergency number, when I tried it at the RCL outlet, I saw that the Classic Handset were accepting only 10 digit emergency numbers. How many such emergency numbers can be stored? I went upto 3 or 4 emergency and still it was accepting further numbers. Anyway all Classic handsets from the lowest end to the highest end (if they really have any, that is) have the same universal lock code 123. This was informed to me by the CC/HL (its a wonder that the CC/HL were actually having this info, for a moment I thought I was with some other CC/HL and not RCL's). Maybe things are improving lets wait and watch. Thanks.

Is this handset available at all now? RCL is not selling any LG products now. Go to any RCL outlet and you will see only Classic handsets, not even Nokia.

Hey hetal, Where are you, man? Not around for quite some time. Developing Ver 3 or onto something even better for us? -
Ha Ha Ha, This is the new RCL. Were you able to view before?
-
@munnamobile, Only Nokia RUIM handsets have capability of changing SIMs of either TATA or RCL. All other handsets of Classic are network locked to RCL. I dont know about LG as yet. In any case, LG is no longer available at Rel. outlets.
-
^^^ TATA website search does not yield any results for moto A 840. Any idea where it is? or links? Thanks.
-
@kingshuk, can you please provide a reply to my post #6's query regarding phone lock and emergency numbers? Thanks
-
Does Classic handsets like 202, 203 or 204 etc have phone lock facility, whereby we can dial out only the pre-stored emergency numbers? If yes, how many emergency numbers can be stored and dialled out? How to lock the phone? I believe the emergency numbers accepts only a ten digit number whereby we cannot enter a local LL number which is of 11 digits including the preceding '0'. How to sort this out? We can only enter local mobile numbers without the preceding '0'. Thanks.

Contacts Transfer From Lg 2530 To Lg 8000 Chocolate ?
KumaarShah replied to rajeevsharma8888's topic in LG
high hopes man, neither RCL nor LG will do it free for you. LG will charge some Rs 85 or Rs 100 for transferring the phone book. If your old phone is within warranty, then they may do it free of cost. havent been to a LG ASC for a long time now and hence do not know the latest policies there. go over to one of the nearest LG ASC and find out. -
Trai asks telcos to set up call centres [5 May, 2007 l 0243 hrs ISTlTIMES NEWS NETWORK] NEW DELHI: Trai released its regulation on ‘Telecom Consumers Protection and Redressal of Grievances Regulations, 2007’ on Friday with a special direction on billing issues to ensure transparency. The story was broken by TOI on 30 April. With this, all telcos providing basic, cellular, broadband or unified access services are required to establish call centres within 60 days, appoint or designate Nodal Officers for each area within one month, so that they are easily accessible and available to consumers for redressal of the grievances and also appoint one or more appellate authorities in each licensed service area within three months. Service providers are also mandated to publish a ‘manual of practice for handling consumer complaints’ which basically provides for consumer rights, obligation and resolution of grievances. Trai has also released a direction, regarding information to be included in the telephone bills issued to the consumers by service providers, to be implemented with effect from 1st August, 2007. The institutional mechanism prescribed provides for resolution of consumers grievances within the company and is subscriber centric. It mandates structural framework at the level of Call Centre, Nodal Officer and appellate authority. It also mandates procedures and time limits for redressal of grievances. Consumers may contact the Call Centre of service provider on a toll free number at the first instance for redressal of their grievances. All the complaints, pertaining to fault repair, service disruption and disconnection of service shall be attended within a maximum period of three days and all other complaints shall be attended by the Call Centre within a maximum period of seven days, subject to time limits laid down in Regulations on Quality of Service. The service provider shall ensure that call centre registers each complaint by allotting an identification number to be called docket number and communicate docket number to consumer; intimate the action taken on the complaint to consumer through phone or any other means within the time limit specified; intimate contact details of the Nodal Officer to the consumer in case a consumer is not satisfied. A survey on Quality of Service sponsored by the authority said about 80 per cent subscribers have difficulty in understanding phone bills. Trai has directed service providers that information like applicable Tariff Plan, credit limit, security deposit, etc, shall be printed in easily readable font size and be included in the telephone bills issued to consumers. Reliance Communications ties up with BSNL for Toll-Free Services
KumaarShah replied to Arun's topic in Reliance Communications
Last month, I called up Tally TF number 1800 22 8859 which did not connect at all. but when i tried 1800 425 8859, it connected. Thats why, i presumed the above. As usual the CC is clueless on this also. This apart, I called several such toll free numbers last month from my FWPs and also my mobiles. I also checked my bill for last month and as i have detailed local billing active on my number, i noticed that all calls to 1800 series were not billed at all. That is, even though it is free, it is not shown in the bill at all. Unlike if you call any onnet mobile number which also are free when unlimited onnet pack is active, but are shown in the bill. So it is totally free. I checked my FWP and my mobile bills also. I have yet to check the staus from my prepaid mobiles. I will report here tomorrow on this. Thanks -
Reliance Communications ties up with BSNL for Toll-Free Services
KumaarShah replied to Arun's topic in Reliance Communications
I presume that if the 1800 series number is a 11 digit one, it works on RCL. But if it is a 10 digit number, it does not work. Atleast this is what I noticed in Chennai, elsewhere I have no idea. Try it in your areas and post here. @robbyji, Even I tried ICICI TF 1800 345 3499 which is a 11 digit number. it connected bit there was a terse announcement, 'your call cannot be processed' Wonder what it means? -
Reliance To Offer Handsets At Rs 777
KumaarShah replied to coolrajiv's topic in Reliance Communications
Someone in RCL told me today that LG has stopped their arrangement with RCL and they will no longer sell any LG models now. Thats a pity, there was only one good supplier of mobiles and that also has gone now. As it is Nokia has withdrawn from CDMA and now LG also have severed their ties with RCL now. So we are left only with 3rd rate Classic models. And yes that person also told me that Classic phones are not of a good quality. Thirdly he also told me that Classic has about 30 to 35 models in all and of them, only 10 to 12 have been released so far by RCL and the rest will come out in the very near future. So now onwards RCL will become UNRELIANCE even in their handsets as they are already UNRELIANCE in their tariffs and offers so far. -
@shailu, Complain to Reliance Assurance and also to Nokia Care. Nokia will replace your faulty battery. Write in strong terms otherwise no action will be taken.

^^^ Thanks buddy, now I am back to the original view.
