As you guys keep commenting on this main article, I would like to clarify some issues: Tata Tele launched Tata Indicom brand in 1995, though TTSL was in CDMA market prior to Reliance. TTSL entered into the mobile market with CDMA, after they sold their stakes in Idea to Aditya Birla Group. That time AT&T was also a shareholder of Idea, later AT&T also left Indian telecom space. Regarding active users, there was no specific timeline for counting active users. Say this week Airtel giving free talktime, and more active users on Airtel network. With Rev B and DO Advanced, with addition of new carrier of 1.25MHz spectrum, downlink can be increased 4.9Mbit/s per carrier. So if 7.5MHz spectrum (permitted maximum in a circle) is given to CDMA players in a circle it can offer upto 6* 4.9= 29.4Mbps! The Handset Issue: RUIM based OMH is the future of CDMA handsets. Here in India even with bundled offer with handset, high end handset is too costly in the context of Indian market which is very price-conscious. Indian market is very different from USA. Even we do not see such good CDMA phones here like China/SK/Japan/USA see. If we get a good mobile from there, it can not be activated easily. Mobile Internet A lot of people get taste of internet on mobile, and that's from GPRS/EDGE. Broadband still has not reached most of the people. CDMA lost this ground due to less handsets supporting 1x/evdo data acceess, those supports is priced higher than GSM phones (supports GPRS/EDGE). Also CDMA players do not have low priced 1x packs for users who access internet from mobile while all GSM players has attractive and affordable GPRS packs. Though 3G from GSM players will never be as per with EVDO in terms of stablity, coverage & etc people will go for 3G. It is because they can use same sim in dongle, mobiles & others. Unlocked data cards are easily available. CDMA players do not sell RUIM for using users' own data card, also availability of unlocked EVDO data cards is very less compared to GSM 3G data cards. EVDO data plans has to be lowered down. As pvt cdma players selling locked data cards, it is easy for them to offer RevA and RevB data services at a different price while RevA has to be priced around Rs 700-900 for unlimited 1 month. See BSNL is offering Rs 750/UL for EVDO and Rs 250/UL for 1x. MTS, Tata, Reliance has 1x UL plans at around Rs 800 for unlimited per month - that is 3 times more than BSNL 1x tariff. CDMA is losing the market coz of operators policy, less hardware and pricing.

Off topic: CDMA players do not offer good 1x plans for using internet on mobile, like GSM operators has GPRS packs (200MB/500MB/1GB/2GB/6GB for 1/3/7/15/30 days)! that stops me from buying a EVDO Rev A handset! on mobile 153kBps with greater stability serves very well! On topic - Touchscreen phones with resistive/capacitive touchscreen tag with cT/rT also Android phones with 'A'!

@Kesav BSNL was selling [is selling at places] this Micromax modem. it comes unlocked [ as i got the driver, tested by installing on my pc saw it has all 5 profile for bsnl, reliance, photon, virgin, mts] ! As i hav zte ac2766 modem wth mts connection, i am looking forward to unlock the device and use bsnl evdo/1x!

OMH sim card are now avble in maharashtra for new customers, Need to check out for UUPGRADE for existing customer, So soon they will be introduced in west bangal also. plz check for new connection with OMH logo. I heard that MOdem provide by MTS is unlocked for any cdma operator. I am using MTS since they launch in Kolkata, with low cost ZTE mobile, anyway I am now using Samsung F219. MTS sent me sms saying data services (1x) are active on my number. But Brew services can not be accessed - "Upgrade your RUIM card"! The CC/MTS Store people have no idea about OMH RUIM! Reliance CDMA is selling OMH RUIM - RUIM holder has a black diamond sign, with this ruim, I tried to get data acceess. But what i got it is RWORLD actually! Modem by MTS - you mean MBlaze devices? MTS was selling ZTE AC2766 and AC2746. Both r locked with MTS netwrk. AC2746 has no RUIM slot. But AC2766 has. That means anybody can unlock it and use it with other RUIM. sadly only BSNL sells RUIM for data use. Reliance/Tata Photon/MTS/Virgin do not sell RUIM for only data access! Recently MTS brings a new evdo modem by Huawei. Very sad about MTS, As WB is good market for MTS, still mts doen't care about customer and not providing OMH card. I have reliance OMH and able to use DATA and rworld succesfully. Ac2766 can be easily unlocked, and u can use any cdma sim. I had tried following, 1) Take omh card from reliance tata or MTS 2) ensure EVDO and Data service is active 2) choose rcv amt which is applicable for EVDO service(Broadband+ or Photon + or Mblaze) And u can start using EVDO from simcard after inserting it into unlocked modem, or buy Tata Speedliving Kolkata and WB is one of the biggest markets for MTS, only in these circles MTS offered lifetime all local @1p/2sec. But still no OMH ! AC2766 can be unlocked, but each MTS Mblaze device comes with a 10 digit mobile no. How to unlock it? and after unlock can i use it as Mblaze?

so when Tata docomo 3G users roam to Delhi/Mumbai his 3G experience will be on MTNL's 3G network! Certainly roaming with 3G will be costly. But who is using tata docomo 3G ??

if MTS is looking for data customers, they shud drop the price! if MTS is looking for data customers, they shud drop the price! Also bring OMH RUIM for data access! Most people are going for BSNL 3G - which has advantage of use of unlocked data card, so user can move to other operators' 3G later time!

Though 3G means a lot of services, people will like only mobile broadband. Video calls @Rs3/min - no one will take it. Mobile TV and VAS will have fewer takers. Data plans have to be priced affordably, otherwise most people will go for BSNL 3G. With few 3G takers, pvt telcos can not make profit! So a price war is coming for sure - survival of the cheapest!

Android with regular keypad & 3G? .. may be we can see these! If you try your fingers on capacitative touch screen, you can't be friendly with resistive touch screen! Olive must come with 3G smartphones with QWERTY or capacitative touch screen!

Following the breakup of Reliance empire, RCOM was handed over to Anil Ambani from Mukhesh Ambani. Anil made RCOM a worst operator. CDMA sector was ignored, GSM roll out with worst services! Let Mukhesh reborn on telecom sector and bring a revolution!

in rural west bengal MTS has best coverage at par with Airtel and Vodafone - the oldest duo of west bengal circle! i am using MTS from June 2009 and its network is really good. I got lifetime 1p/2sec local calls @ Rs 95 and also subscribed to 100 loc+nat sms for daily Re 1 (deduction will happen even you do not send sms for the day). currently using Samsung F219, but no OMH sim is available! no data access on the OMH handset!!

@Hetal does anyone show more than 10Mbps speedtest on Reliance/Tata Docomo 3G?? @Karthik I am talking about data, not call connection charges, here CDMA can win if tariff is reduced! 25GB@800 can be a killer deal for EVDO players. Do not expect CDMA 3G spectrum auction in next 2 yrs as every1 will be busy with 2G Scam !
