Reliance Jio - Pan India 4G / LTE network
ujjwalsarin replied to Arun's topic in Reliance Jio 4G LTE (Prepaid & Postpaid)
@ Mr Mehta - Even for 4G devices today the device has a seperate NW identifier for 4G(much like EV in EVDO+1X combination)So where ever the network is present, the customer can manually or automatically switch on to 4G mode and latch on to it As for NW sharing we have already intracircle roaming by operators which do not have a very strong NW in a particular zone. So even 4G should/will follow the same allignment and more depending on new telecom policy With New Telecom Policy to be announded soon, we can also expect relaxation of rules for active infra sharing which again - will also bring in more convergence amongst operators on NW side. @ ravi - thx -
Reliance Jio - Pan India 4G / LTE network
ujjwalsarin replied to Arun's topic in Reliance Jio 4G LTE (Prepaid & Postpaid)
4G/LTE Developments in US China and Russia and Japan 1. US - LTE is being launched by both AT&T and Verizon – biggest carriers in US. Only Sprint Nextel is on WIMAX and is rumoured to be shifting to LTE in near future a. Wimax Devices available as of now – 10 b. LTE devices available as of now – 9 2. China Mobile is also rolling out TD LTE network in 2300/2500 Mhz spectrum – similar to Indian market . 3. DOCOMO (Japan) and Vodafone (Europe) will also roll out FDD LTE in 800 Mhz band 4. YOTA- Russian carrier which is the biggest WIMAX deployed network in the world – is also planning to shift to LTE. Interestingly, YOTA’s biz model is being a third party 4G provider to all existing operators in Russia, so MTS user in Russia when he wants to use 4G automatically shifts to YOTA network on his 4G enabled handset Hence TD LTE Devices will be global & will evolve much like GSM Quadband devices Technology coexistence with existing standards (GSM/CDMA) 5. For both LTE and WIMAX - Co-existence with legacy standards (users can transparently start a call or transfer of data in an area using an LTE standard, and, should coverage be unavailable, continue the operation without any action on their part using GSM/GPRS or UMTS or CDMA 6. However, LTE in US is deployed at 700 Mhz in FDD LTE while in India the available spectrum band is 2300. Hence much like GSM evolution earlier, we will probably see launch of quad band handsets within LTE WIMAX currently operates on 2300 Mhz spectrum primarily both in US and Russia The FDD LTE and TD-LTE versions of the 3GPP standard are very similar. As a result, devices can support both the FDD and TDD interfaces through a single chipset--i.e., without any additional cost. This is a hugely important new development: TD-LTE will benefit from the wide availability of FDD LTE devices that will be able to support TD-LTE as well. Unlike WiMAX, TD-LTE does not need to prove to have a substantial market share to convince vendors to develop devices. Vendors do not need to develop new devices, they simply need to add TD-LTE support to the existing ones. Hence I believe Reliance Infotel will 1. Adopt LTE TDD 2. Source devices from China and US markets etc 3. Might become bulk data seller to other GSM, CDMA operators 4. Acquire strategic stake in Reliance Infratel (since ADA has unsucessfully tried to list the company) company 5. Acquiring spectrum from Etisalat, Videocon is also possible as both will be in the market after 2011 NTP Already Aircel – other BWA winner has tested LTE and might go that route -

Which Is Better - 3G or EVDO?
ujjwalsarin replied to mailgujarat's topic in Other Broadband Discussion
Cannot merely evaluate EVDO v/s HSPA with the device & usage throughput paradigm in consideration Usage Paradigm For a Dongle user - "faster the better" - users connect via laptops and are poised to inherently consume more data. Having said that, landline operators sell more of basic broadband plans rather than the high end high speed plans - which clearly signifies that for a common man, there exists a basic speed threshold which is considered adequate In a more developed market like US - customers could have choosen to go with AT&T(HSPA), Clearwire(WIMAX) over Verizon over the last few months/years. Yet the BIG RED has not seen a mass exodus only becuase it offers the customer lower speeds Its like - if I have a 320 GB HDD or a 500GB HDD - does it really affect my life. After a point PEAK DATA RATE is just a number Tariff If HSPA and EVDO were equals in DEVICE space - EVDO would have been a clear winner. 3G Business plans will fail if the tariffs equal those of EVDO Device Paradigm I always believe DAPO was a boon as well as a curse for CDMA. While it got the technology a critical mass, yet it positioned it as a technology for the poor We keep ruing that CDMA carriers do not bother about users on high end imported handset. Consider this - if a RCOM invests Rs 20K to procure and sell a high end handset, it can get a 10 more customers with a handset selling @ Rs 2K. In the way carriers operate today 1. No of subs is more imp than sheer quality of an individual subscriber 2. Cost of serving high ARPU customer is more, and a small and highly dispersed TG does not help 3. The entire machinery is geared towards achieving numbers on entry customers, and as a result a small/significant high ARPU customer base is ignored At the end of the day - service technology is as good as the proof of service in the customers hand --------which is in this case a device. Till such time device ecosystem is not in place, for India HSPA will be better than EVDO, HSPA will also be better than LTE or WIMAX -

A good alternative is to use a EVDO handset as USB modem. Top up with core TT for low usage and use a data pack for high usage. Option 2 is a EVDO modem (chinese/open market) with OMH RUIM and plans -
Buy a Tata Photon "SPEEDLIVING" OMh SIM for Rs 99 and upgrade yoru RUIM. You will get 15GB PM for 2 months(postpaid) + 500 Min local ONNET Calls

As High end CDMA handsets move on to EVDO, coparision with GPRS packs is not fair. If EVDO on mobile is compared to 3G on mobile, 3G seems a rip off..

connect as tethered modem and use speedtest.net

Videocon's Zero Paisa Plan: Does It Make Sense For You?
ujjwalsarin replied to rajanmehta's topic in Other Network / Cellular Providers
Rajan Pl clarify for my understanding V500 7"Where features are concerned, the phone is decent. But, it's outrageously expensive. An MRP of nearly Rs. 20,000 is not justified. V7500 is available at below Rs. 11,000 in the open market, but for the free talktime you have to pay the MRP, which is not a wise decision" V202 "The phone can be bought at a discount of Rs. 200-Rs 300 without the offer, so buying it at MRP with the Zero Paisa scheme is certainly better." Question 1. Do the handset come with a voucher whihc gets debundled by the retail? is this the reason if the offer is to be redeemed, the handset has to be bought at MRP? 2. If I buy the handste at MOP from a retailer, I do not get the benefit? Thx -

TATA Indicom Reintroduces Internet Packs

Base tariff is 50P/mb and not 10p/10kb. The packs are valid for both 1x and EVDO mobile users. Pack benefits / Tariff remains the same for tethering as well as browsing on handset.
