  2. Need Advice On Buying GSM Handset

Thanks for the insight Pulkit. Can someone please guide me which one to go for - iphone or galaxy s2 i9100. just have little more than 1 hr left for my discount coupon to work Please guys... if anyone has better offers than I'm up for it too. Thanks
  3. Need Advice On Buying GSM Handset

I do agree that Iphone 4 -32 Gb deal is pretty sweet .. but does it compares to galaxy s2 in overall performance ? Also regarding galaxy s2 with 2 yrs physical damage warranty, its model is i9100G and not i9100 , which is why i'm a little perceptive about it. Is there any noticeable difference between the two ?
  4. Video playback is not as good as Epic 4g on photon 4g for a low resolution videos as it appear more shadowy. for high quality video, not much difference. Also to your other q's yes as compared to SAMOLED , smiple LCD screen with qHD is more discernable (not sure of the reason). I have also checked out Droid Razr which is SMOLED with pentile and qHD and it appears a little better than photon 4g. That being said, I don't have much difference in user experience for casual users until you dig your eyes closer everytime and have two different handsets side by side for comparison.
  5. One more point I missed there.. ****t i'm getting sloppy.... As far as displays are concerned both D3 and photon have pentile matrix (in fact evey qHD resolution screen for motorola have pentile matrix arrangement). So no differences there.
  6. One point I missed there - as far as 1080p camera is concerned ,I seriously don't think there is much difference in photo/video quality between 720p and 1080p for regular use. But if want 1080p camera , there are few methods specified in XDA by which you can get 1080p res on photon also (one of the method is porting D3 camera app.. lol).
  7. Hi, i'd try to answer your query as well as I can. I have owned photon 4g and can say this without any slightest doubt in my mind that its an absolute powerhouse for heavy usage, performance and gaming. Although I haven't have a chance to use droid 3 , I did use Epic 4g slider which arguably has the best physical qwerty keyboard in any smartphone. - When comparing spec wise (which generally transforms to comparable user experience as both considered phones are from same manufacturer) It is no doubt that photon is way better. - Best features about photon that sets it apart from other smartphones are - its awesome speaker quality, best-in class radio for call reception both in CDMA/GSM and a handy kickstand. Also Nvidias tegra 2 along with geforce GPU is no way inferior to GX540 for handling games and 3d graphics. - Although its nice to have a physical keyboard in the phone, but I feel as a casual user its not for actual use in day-to-day life. for typing small sms or regualr work its not very preferable to use slide out keyboard. On the downside it makes the phone bulky and less sturdy (you will always feel slide-out action getting little loose after few months if used very frequently). Again I have not used droid 3 , so cannot confirm that all those points are applicable to it in same manner. So I think a droid 3 user can comment more accurately. However I think photon would be better choice nevertheless. On a SIDE NOTE- I'd suggest to go for a pure CDMA or GSM handset if you are going to use a single service only as you will always have some issues with the world phones as you can find in various posts in the forum. Hope this would be helpful.
  8. Review: Motorola Photon 4G

@kshah or @mujeebrehman Can one of you please post a link to your dropbox if you have skinny4g and skinnyrev1 roms ? I'd like to use both CDMA and GSM mode so CM7 or CM9 is not an option for me :-) Thanks in advance
  9. Review: Motorola Photon 4G

@mujeebrehman thanks a lot man for the sbf link. It would be great if you can provide me link for downloading Skinny4g and skinnyrev1 rom too. Also in your view which one is most snappy and stable blur rom which works well with CDMA as well as GSM ? Thanks again !!
  10. Review: Motorola Photon 4G

@kshah thanks for clearing everything up ... One question though .. I'm trying to go back to stock and start from scratch. Can you suggest me which sbf (version) file I need in our case and if we need radio reprogramming after that for RCDMA to work
  11. Review: Motorola Photon 4G

Hi guys !!! Finally I got my mopho yesterday and I started playing with it right away. In last 12 hours I have already unloacked the bootloader, rooted the phone, activated my RCDMA no on the handset and tried two roms - 1. ICS CM9 and 2. Rocko rom (based on Jokers skinny blur rom). My experiences with the phone till now - when I was viewing review of photon on youtube and they talked about pixelation issue with pentile display on it, I thought it would'nt be any problem with me, but as I got m phone, I couldn't help but notice pixelation when enlarging images and above all washed out black colour and background (main reason of this being I came from super-amoled display of samsung epic4g). So the display was little disappointing for me . but I was happy to see a larger resolution. Sadly most of the 3rd party widgets are not acoording to this resolution and thus does't fit well on screen. - with stock rom , I fill a detterent lag in every aspect which gone completely after I flashed custom kernel. Benchmark scores were exemplary though - getting 82 mflops on linpack , 3600 on quadrant on cm9. In my sheer excitement I have also made some mistakes for which I have paid some price too. After installing cwm recovery I selected some wrong options and suddenly my phone rebooted only to show that my moto splash screen (with dual core logo) is gone. Instead when I reboot/power on my phone I just get a BIOS like display with all options (RSD,Fastboot,Android recovery etc) and if I doesn't select one for 5 secs the phone actually boots in BP mode to ROM. Can someone please suggest how to solve this issue ? For all (particularly @kshah) who are on cm9 ,i have couple of queries - - Is GSM mode working on cm9 , I don't see gsm(sim) settings on the rom ? - How is the battery life for you ? (for a small time i checked it was very bad) - Do you also see random reboots. Also I have noticed that cm9 is preconfigured to 1.3 GHZ overclock. Which tool do you use to underclock it and what settings have you set (I tried SetCpu which FCed on me) - Video playback still doesn't work for certain codecs. I also noticed 1080p video playback lagging. At this point I'm thinking of going back to complete stock again and then trying afresh. Can someone please provide me a link on how to perform that without loosing RCDMA radio settings. BTW - loved the Kickstand and speaker quality. Still can't conclude about radio quality on CDMA a GSM , but can confirm that it converges very quickly (within 3 secs as @@mujeebrehman said)
  12. Review: Motorola Photon 4G

@kshah as you are on Cm9 ICS , I suppose you have unloacked bootloader (seems like a requirement to have cm9 working). Can you please tell me which process you followed for rooting after unloacking bootloader and if you followed same steps as QBking77's video , do you happened to know from where I can get system.img file (links provided on XDA post are all down due to SOPA/PIPA issue) Thanks !!!
  13. Review: Motorola Photon 4G

And yes , One more thing - Which Headset/handsfree you guys use with moPho (as it doesn't comes with one in the package)
  14. Review: Motorola Photon 4G

I need one more help from you guys : Actually I have been preparing for rooting my photon as soon as it comes to me (by tomorrow or day after than hopefully) and so I browsed through some youtube videos by QbKing77 (great guy btw , kudos to him !! ) and XDA forums dev posts and have collected various files and s/w that are needed in all involved processes (rooting, unrooting, unlocking bootloader etc), only one thing that I couldn't find is the system.img file that is used for rooting after unlocking the bootloader ( iwissh to follow this method as opposed to One-click root or photon torpedo method as I need JokerSax's Overclockable kernel and ROMS using those kernel which can only be possible if photon is unlocked and also 4G is never useful for us anyways). Can someone please help in this regard ? If you are aware of any other method(simple one) that I can follow for rooting after unlocking bootloader that would be geat too !!! Thanks
  15. Review: Motorola Photon 4G

^^^ @mujeebrehman Can yo please verify if this is the case with your handset too (call drop and slow convergence on GSM mode) . If not , we can consider this pertaining to a single handset , but if this is true in your case too, then we really have a bigger problem to solve !!!
  16. Sprint Samsung Epic 4G - The Beast Is Here!

Q: Where is the bootanimation.zip and how can I change the boot animation? A: The stock boot animation is actually contained in the framework-res.apk file. If you want to use a custom boot animation, all you have to do is place your bootanimation.zip in the /system/media directory and it will play instead of the stock one. -- This I got from cleanGB's XDA thread . Follow this step to have custom boot animation EPIC TIMEZZ

Well one way to avoid this prompt (for upgradation to El30) turnoff your phone , select yes when the prompt for upgradation to El30 is shown. It will boot into recovery and fail as you are not on stock . NO worries , just reboot from the clockwork menu and you will not get that prompt again. As far as battery life is concerned ,I don't think CleanGB s**ks more than stock. Well I'm not very concerned about my battery life , but to high performance while playing games and using apps. What is a smartphone for then ? EPIC TIMEZZ
  18. Sprint Samsung Epic 4G - The Beast Is Here!

Yes , you got all points covered. After taking nandroid backup , clear Data, then clear cache follwed by Dalvik cache (from advanced menu) as shown in qbking77's video and you are good to go with CleanGB install. Let me know if you stumble any issues... EPIC TIMEZZ
  19. Review: Motorola Photon 4G

Hello All , I'm also soon gonna be a pround mopho owner (just ordered it). So I thought I should collect some insight from the current users of such an incredible marvel. I am currently using Epic 4g and I truly think it is awesome phone with some minor network issues. But above all , its a generation old phone , now that dual-core phones are in limelight. I am basically purchasing this phone so that I could have flexiblity to use GSM network instead of RCDMA as I have quite frequent network issues at my home on it. I have couple of q's about it : 1. How is the call quality and network reception for RCDMA ie CDMA radio as well as GSM mode. Have anyone compared RCDMA network quality on some other phone (say samsung epic) with this ? 2. Has anyone tried overclocking the phone to 1.3 or 1.4 ghz using any overclocking kernel yet. If yes, hows their experiences ? 3. How is the speaker/headphone quality of the phone. As per my understanding you don't have headset in the box , so need to rely on third party one. Which one will you suggest to use in this case ? 4. Also i wanted to know if we have HDMI cable in the box or not ? if not, what is the approximate cost of mini HDMI - HDMI cable in market ? Thanks Dev I will put up my review on the handset in brief once I get my hands on it.

Well .. if are a ****er for ICS experience like me and want to show off other driod fanboys that you have ICS on your phone then have no other option but CM9. Otherwise if you need stability and fluidilty in your device CleanGB has no match (until Randomkings Thunderhawk 3.4 comes to market). To give you a fair idea about stability of CleanGB rom. I have OC'ed to 1.5 and GPU to 300 using samurai's kernel (which isn't the most stable kernel at all) as well as flashed some Ei22 based themes over it. Still the phone never rebooted randomly on me. So , yes CleanGB really rocks if you are not really a ICS die-hard fanboys !!! EPIC TIMEZZ

Well you are wrong this time sir CM9 (or underlying ICS) have such options , just shown in different fashion. -After you add a new wifi network (or turn-on wifi radio to detect one) , touch the wifi's name to open details in it. - if you scroll down , it has 'advaced' tab within options. When you check it, it will open few more options to edit i.e Proxy setting and DHCP/Static IP option. From there you can assing static-ip and proxy to your wifi network. - it took me couple of hours too first to figure out but got it after several trial and error. Not able to send you a screenshot as I have already came back to CleanGB rom (Cm9 was posing problems with Overclocking and GPU which I need for playing GTA3) EPIC TIMEZZ
  22. Sprint Samsung Epic 4G - The Beast Is Here!

If you want a stable rom for mtd partition based on EL30 , i think CleanGB would be your best bet. Other option may be SleeperRom for MTD. Also , refrencing to your second q's , no you will not reset/loose any reliance(radio) setting by Odin back and rerooting + wiping data/cache as far as you don't use CM (cyanogenmod) based roms i.e. CM7, CM9 and MIUI
  23. Sprint Samsung Epic 4G - The Beast Is Here!

I just checked and confirmed the issues with caller ID and +91 prefix on cm9 . I had already converted my no's and deleted +91 prefixes earlier when using this on cm7, faced same issue there on alpha versions. I think call setting functionality might be integrated in future releases in which we might have setting to change 'International Dialing' prefix. For now , there is no workaround to that I guess. All who are using awesome CM9 as their daily driver , I recommend you to get on with latest alpha 2 - its far more stable, smooth and drains very less battery, particularly during deep sleep. Also recommend trying out new browser in town - the awesome CHROME BETA. check out this video FYI - its only compatible with stock ICS (android 4) or ICS based roms(like our CM9) for now. Its loaded with amazing features and integrates with ICS very well with only one downside - drains noticeable amount of battery. - EPIC TIMEZZZ
  25. Sprint Samsung Epic 4G - The Beast Is Here!

Hi , I've tried it and used it for a day before moving back to CM9 alpha2(I'm a ****er for ICS experience, addicted to it !!). CleanGB is quite stable , infact the most stable MTD Touchwiz rom if you like the stock GB experience. You can definately use it as daily driver. EPIC TIMEZZ
