Lenovo Bought Motorola Mobility For $2.91 Billion From Google!! In a surprising move, Google sold its $12.5 billion purchase, Motorola Mobility, to Lenovo for just $2.91 billion. Many eyebrows were raised by the hefty price that Googled decided to pay for Motorola Mobility back in August, 2011 & many opined that Google has gone over the board. Proving those opinions, Google could only sell it for just $2.91 billion although Google is set to keep the patents of Motorola Mobility(the main reason that was thought to be behind Google's willingness to pay a huge amount in purchasing Motorola Mobility back in 2011, although they didn't help Google in fighting patent wars successfully against Apple & Microsoft). Below is the official press release from the both businesses on this acquisition. Source

As it has been the hot topic on the amount of loss that Google has made on their investment on Motorola Mobility, there have been lot of calculations on how much really Google has lost on this purchase & sale of Motorola Mobility. For us layman the calculation is simple, Google bought Motorola Mobility at $12.5 billion & sold for $2.91 which means that a cool $9.6 billion loss. But according to the Newyork Times special report on this particular deal, the amount is completely different. I'll quote a small portion of that report, which has been republished by many technical blogs as well And even $3.2 billion is not a loss considering the Google has got the chance to keep all the patents of Motorola Mobility. And if some one says, what about the millions of dollars loss of operation costs of Motorola Mobility in the last 2-3 years. Well, along with Motorola Mobility's patents, Google will also get the chance to keep the project 'Ara'(Modular cell phone) and also Lenovo will continously be paying royalty fee to Google for the use of Motorola Mobility's patents. All in all, the out come of all this Motorola Mobility's episode is that Google got Motorola Mobility's patents & Ara project for as cheap as $3.2 billion the same amount that Google paid for the purchase of Nest Labs(Home Products manufacturer). You see lot of those messages with regards to DHL, what they do is that they submit papers to the customs officials before item is arrived to their Indian hub(depending on the location of your place in the country), you will also see 'custom status updated', 'Clearance Event' & 'processed for clearance' messages every day until the physical verification of the items by customs officials is completed. If you have multiple packages, then they may also arrive at different times or days even(it all depends on the sorting facility at Heathrow Airport, London). You will get a call from them or you can call DHL customer service & ask to arrange a call from their clearance team, you will get a call & you can ask them about the status & customs fee(if the items are cleared). -

TATA is shutting down CDMA postpaid service

I hope we(or some one) can chase or route away this Vodafone just as our freedom fighters chased away British rulers, otherwise we will be definitely experiencing another British rule again, only in Telecom sector though. -
TATA is shutting down CDMA postpaid service
st_7 replied to sougatadc's topic in Other Network / Cellular Providers
That really s**ks and the more worrying part of this story is that Vodafone will be taking over Tata's entire Telecom business. It seems that Vodafone is trying to be the biggest player in the Indian Telecom Business with lot of acquisitions & take overs. If that happens it will be a disasterous for us(common users), because Vodafone will definitely make the prices higher & higher which will then be followed by others, which was what happened with 2G data prices recently. -
On February 5th this year, Government going to auction spectrum in 1800Mhz & 900Mhz frequencies. The stage is all set for an interesting battle, as all the GSM & Dual Technology(GSM/CDMA) operators are going to participate in this auction. Below is the Qualified Bidders list published by DoT. Experts believe while the Airtel, Vodafone & to some extent Idea's interest rests in Metros(Mumbai & Delhi) 900Mhz spectrum, Reliance Jio Infocom will be more interested to grab at least 5Mhz spectrum in each circle in 1800Mhz frequency as Mukesh Ambani's firm is looking to offer voice services along with Data services. Experts also of the opinion that Reliance Jio Infocom may bid for 900Mhz up to certain point to make bidding more interesting for outsiders but more difficult for Airtel, Vodafone & Idea. The AVOID along with Uninor/Telenor, Tata Docomo & Aircel will also be bidding for spectrum in 1800Mhz frequency so that they can offer 4G using FDD-LTE technology. Source

A new windows virus is detected floating in the wild that targets Android devices attached to the pc which is been invaded by the said virus. This particular virus is seems to be made targetting Korean people but similar viruses may be floating around the internet. According to the newest Symanatec security(malware) bulletin, the virus which is named as Trojan.Droidpak will install ADB in the computer by itself !! and continously checks for any Android device is connected(with USB debugging enabled). Once it finds an Android device with USB debugging enabled then it installs a fake Google Play Store App, called as Google App Store(check the screen shot below). Once the fake Google Play Store is installed it scouts for any authenticated applications of any Korean banks(that's why it is reported to be targetting only Korean people) and if it finds any such apps then it prompts the infected users to uninstall genuine apps from Korean banks & install some fake ones. The Android users can protect themselves from this virus if you take two safety steps, 1) never leave USB debugging continously on so that even if you connect your Android device to some untrusted computer(computers belong to others) the virus can't effect you. 2) secondly always try to download the apps from original source or verify whether you are doing or not and also choose the option to verify authenticity of the apps installing through USB(there will be an option in settings for this). A detailed report can be seen @ Symantec Blog

First of all, few days ago, when I made a post with the information of this Apple releasing Iphone 4(quoting ET) in 'News Snippets' thread(at that time the price was rumoured to be Rs.15k), I thought Rs.15k is absolutely waste of money no matter how good the was two years back. And thinking of selling it @ Rs.23k is absolutely stupid on the Apple's local management part. As, H.V.Nath ji said above, there are people with even more stupidity & dumbness and very itchy to show off 'Apple' logo(takes pride more than Late. Steve Jobs himself in doing so). Sir ji, if you spend 15K & buy an Android smartphone I'm sure you will get much better handset than Iphone 4. If you are ok with staying with stock rom & don't use that many apps(other than for basic requirements), then I suggest you to try Windows Phone, preferably, Nokia Lumia 520(525 for 10k). You get much buttery smooth UI with Windows Phone 8(that's the reason it can perform much better with lower specs than any Android or IOS phones).

@HarshaRim, you said you can use CDMA, so it's not completely waste of money, you can use it on any CDMA network.

Motorola Moto G Dual-SIM Is Launched In Australia Back when Motorola Moto G was launched, Motorola just said that they will be releasing a dual-sim version of the same in the near future. Motorola hasn't given any details of when & where it will be released and what the price would be. But it is now been released in Australia, the price is yet to be known as no big stores of Australia yet have it. The specs & looks seems to be exactly as Moto G, the only change from Moto G would be the dual-sim slot inside the phone. The Australian would have GSM+GSM configuration as there is no CDMA network in Australia. It has to be seen when Motorola start rolling out Moto G dual-sim to other countries(if at all they have plans for it) & what wou be the price will be. Source: Various Technical Blogs -
Reliance Jio - Pan India 4G / LTE network

Vijayawada, Rajahmundry and Your place Visakapatnam is also getting ready as per naukari.com Babulu Yeah, I was sure that Visakhapatnam would get the Reliance 4G but I will not get it because I live in the outskirts of the city, so I highly doubt that I would ever get the 4G signal. But glad to hear that Reliance is also deploying the infrastructure in towns like Rajahmundry & Nellore. -

For the last few days, there are so many press renders, live images are being leaked about Nokia's mysterious Android phone codemaned 'Normandy'. First it was thought a dead project, given the fact that the Microsoft take over deal is done & dusted(technically it takes much more time for the deal to be implemented). It is rumoured to be a low-end Android smartphone with specs at best that of Nokia Lumia 520 otherwise with specs same as some of Asha line of feature-cum-smartphones. Windows Phone OS & its UI is known as one of the buttery smooth OS & UI although crippled with lack of some features. On the other hand Android OS is known to be laggy OS with the requirement of high end specs to run smoothly(although it is slowly changing). It has to be seen how well Nokia is able to optimize Android & their skin on top of it to perform decently on this low-end or ultra low end specs(if you go by rumours). Today, couple of screenshots of its user interface have been leaked. Nokia interestingly gone with the UI similar to Windows Phone(which you can also get on any Android Smartphone by using few launchers). Below are the screenshots leaked by the most frequent leakster 'Eveleaks'. Source:Eveleaks -
Whatsapp on any iPad/iPod Touch (without Jailbreak)
st_7 replied to ::: VA :::'s topic in Tutorial and Guides
is there any way to install whatsapp on Ipad Cellular without the need of an Iphone. couple of months back my friend bought Ipad(I think fourth generation) with cellular capabilities, he uses internet(3G) on Ipad using his Airtel sim. He is been searching for Whatsapp in iStore but couldn't find it. This method will not work for us because we don't have Iphone users in our circle. -

The only problem seems to be is that only one Sim slot(slot: 1) has the capability of 3G data(EVDO or GSM 3G), I wonder why every one is deploying this way, does it something to do with technology constraints?! -

But his main requirement is non-camera phone!!, if not for that reason he doesn't have to wait for some mysterious phone to be released, there are many choices within his budget. -
BlackBerry, which is looking to offer its business oriented services on other platforms has taken another step in that direction. According to the BlackBerry's new CEO, John Chen, their popular BES services will be made available to Windows Phone OS users. This will be a great win for Microsoft as well, because it easily attracts Corporate entities which already running Windows based servers & PCs along with BlackBerry services for their mobile needs can easily adopt Windows Phone OS. This weightage issue with SNS is been there at least for the last 3 years, I remember back in 2011 they have weighed a small phone like hp veer as some thing around 3.5 lb & they cleared it as Cellphones' accessories(although it does had a very small case in it). I had got around 3 shipments in 2011. Once HP Veer(two phones in different packages), once HP Touchpad & then once HP Toucpad charger. They charged around 4k in customs for HP Touchpad Firesale prace which is well below the price of Rs.10k. They even messed up the shipping of HP Touchpad Charger(which I got free from HP in warranty), I posted this information some where in this thread only. After 3 horrific experiences I never used them again. But I learned from my reading that they are reliable than PPOBOX.com even though they had higher customs & weightage issues. -

Please suggest Non-Camera Android phone under 10K
st_7 replied to puneet_july30's topic in Handset Suggestions
Is Camera not being present compulsory?, because for that price you an get many decent models of manufacturers like Micromax, and you can even get a used or like new low end models like Samsung Stellar. Check with one of our forum sellers. But all of them will have Camera. It is really difficult to get an Android Phone with out camera. -
Apple To Dump Unsold Inventory Of Iphone 4 8GB In India For Rs.15,000 & Above For Each One of the biggest complaint from Indian consumers about Apple is that they consider us & our country as some sort of dumping yard of unsold inventories of Iphone models. We get latest Iphone models months after many other countries get, although Apple is trying to change that. But according to Economic Times, Apple is thinking of going old days, by wanting to dump the unsold inventory of Apple Iphone 4(which is discontinued & no longer manufactured) in India, although they give a valid reason to do so. The Economic Times quotes some of the dealers of Apple products in India, saying Apple is looking to compete in the lower end market of Smartphones. The price will be around Rs.15,000 with many buybacks & EMI options. So, if any body interested in the 4 year old model then get ready to shed around 15k because Apple may relaunch Iphone 4 8 GB as early as next week.

Reliance Jio - Pan India 4G / LTE network
st_7 replied to Arun's topic in Reliance Jio 4G LTE (Prepaid & Postpaid)
^^^ CDMA spectrum(800 MHZ) is most efficient spectrum for DATA(other than 700 MHZ), any carrier would love to hold that efficient spectrum, I'll not be surprised if MDA back Reliance Jio Info buys RCOM's CDMA arm thus buying 800MHZ spectrum. In the next Spectrum auction, Government is selling some blocks in 900MHZ spectrum, which many companies are eyeing to latch on to.
