Can We Recharge Reliance Netconnect+ Prepaid Account Online?
Rahul Always replied to pajat's topic in Data services
You cannot check how much data is left unless you call up the customer care, if you are using the 800 plan. I dont know how but the customer care exec is able to view it. I did have a problem with connectivity once, was able to connect only in 1X, assumed my data had dried up and called up CC. They assured me that my data was still available and they were able to check this. However, there is no other option for customer himself to check the data. If in doubt, call up 198! *333 is chargeable -
Joke Of The Day (New Bpl Norms: Rs 39 Enough For Medical Expenditure)
Rahul Always replied to kshah's topic in The Lounge
I think this entire issue has got confused. They must have been talking of 32 bucks as in $32 per day. It is the Indian media which has got it wrong as usual. Why blame the poor planning commission guys. After all, they have a wonderful leader in MMS and in addition, also Montek Singh Ahluwalia, both of whom are able to capture the pulse of the Indian public so well! -
Vote For The Best Anti-Virus!
Rahul Always replied to Karthik R's topic in General Technical Discussion
I was initially skeptical about MSE as an antivirus (more so because it is free!) but having used it for close to one year now, and on both my home PC and my laptop (both running Win 7 Home Editions), I must admit I am more than happy. The software is able to detect most of the viruses and continues to get updated without any hassles. I was also impressed with the level of support offered by Microsoft in solving my problem with the software once where I sat with the customer support personnel from US on phone for close to 1 hour while he undertook solving of a problem with the software, which I had requested Microsoft to look into. I also use Comodo as my firewall which has a built in anti virus protection which works as added protection! -

Uninor Introduces Sabse Sasta ‘Yuva Pack’
Rahul Always replied to Honest's topic in Other Network / Cellular Providers
I think all operators are trying to attract as many people as they can with innovative offers for SMS before the 20 Sep TRAI deadline. -
I wonder when the next Ponzi scheme would be launched and more people fall prey to it? @Honest, the article on an MBA graduate losing Rs 14 Crore was incorrect. He did not lose that much. He says (I quote from the article) I sold personal identification numbers (PINs) and empanelled many sub-panelists. I gave the company a business of Rs 14 crore. I was promised a 3% commission on every PIN of Rs 10,000. Somewhere along, news articles tend to sensationalise. I was wondering who was fooling enough to invest Rs 14 cr in a company and realised what the truth was all about. All said and done, let us hope that we all fellow Rimwebians learn not to fall prey to such magical schemes to make money (or else be the first to invest so that we recover our initial investment and gain profits before the bubble bursts! )

Chinese Phone With One Year On-Site Warranty On Ebay
Rahul Always replied to ::: VA :::'s topic in The Lounge
I fully agree with the post above. Offering some kind of warranty/free service for issues that can occur within one year of purchase will certainly go a long way in persuading buyers into purchasing from this forum. However, this may lead to a slight hike in the prices of the phones since the seller would be required to attend to defects and even replace a phone that can go bad as a result of hardware issues / software issues not related to "unauthorised" programming by the user. I also think Saddik is offering some kind of one year warranty for all phones bought from him but then I would require him to confirm on this. -
@DL I agree that we have to make a start somewhere. But unfortunately, something that I have seen in most walks of life is, it does not concern me, I will not involve myself. And that is true across the board, in most of the situations of life. If we really wanted to make a difference, let us stop voting for candidates on the basis of caste/religion/region etc. How many of us actually are willing to stand in the line of a election, be it the Parliamentary elections or the Panchayat and actually vote for someone whom we feel would improve our lives rather than simply because he/she belongs to own caste or section of society. Corruption is a universal phenomenon and does not differ much across nations. However, the one difference that has been apparent in other countries and our own country is that, here people do not care about national "prestige" and "pride" and all that matters is "how much I can make" in any deal. The Commonwealth games was a classic example of this. Compare our preparations for the CW games where infrastructure was not ready even at the last minute and the British preparations for the Olympics where all infrastructure is already in place. So even if corruption exists, national pride and prestige make sure that the country's image does not suffer in front of the entire world. We need to weed out this choking phenomenon of corruption from our lives slowly and steadily. Let us hope our nation becomes strong as a result of whatever campaigns are in progress. That is, provided our political class are willing to let things slip out of their grasp and people have the final say.

^^^ Maybe it is easier to commit crimes? Everyone out on the streets and no one at home? Robbers' paradise!
-
If someone wants to do something really for their country, go ahead and join the Armed forces. For all their fault, that is one institution that has more or less withstood all the faults of society and truly evolved into an apolitical and completely secular organisation, something that is simply impossible to see anywhere else. Standing in dharnas and shouting slogans does seem wonderful, especially with all the media coverage. The candle lit marches are extremely romantic and it seems like all this would persuade the people in power to just stop being corrupt. It simply will not happen. @Saurabh, it is best not to take things personally in any argument. What others were trying to say is, unless you root out corruption at the grass root levels, things will never improve. And there is no comparison of crimes. Even downloading of mp3 is a crime since you have not paid royalty but yes when compared to the millions that are being looted, it does seem trivial. The day we make people realise that asking for bribes is not going to get you anywhere, the country is going to improve. It has been proved that applications for passports that were being held up for trivial reasons suddenly got approved the moment the applicant went to the passport officer with an RTI application in his hand. Maybe we just need to see how we can utilise existing tools and weapons available to improve the system overall.
-
^^^ @ Phonegeek, that is an absolutely gross distortion of facts. No one and I repeat, no one can ever "force" you to become corrupt. It is not like anyone tortured you and made you corrupt. The person who pays a bribe to get things done knows he is doing wrong and yet does it simply because he prefers to choose the easier wrong over the harder right. It is opinions like this which embolden politicians. The day everyone takes a pledge to stop paying bribes, to stop breaking queues, to become disciplined, to ensure the prevalence of right over wrong, that is the time corruption would truly end. An easy way of looking at it would be ..... most of us are not corrupt simply due to lack of opportunity. If we did have a chance to make undeserved gains, would we refuse? The answer to that would reflect the true nature of our characters. The day we accept that there can be delays in processing of applications not because the other person is looking for gratification but simply because the system is slow and factor that delay into our planning, the day we actually stop at red lights even when a cop is not present at a junction, the day we stand in a queue and quietly at that, the day we actually stop our cars when we see a pedestrian crossing the road, the day we become disciplined and work simply because we have to and not because our boss is still in office, our nation would become the best in the world. Till then, no one can save India.

Will Reliance shut down CDMA voice services?
Rahul Always replied to suvirajshetty's topic in Reliance Communications
Just hope it is a rumour since the kind of voice quality that I have on the CDMA network, I cannot hope for in GSM -
The ad hoc connection is not recognised by Android mobiles as a normal wifi router so that will not work if you want to share your internet connection through your laptop. I did some research on this and came up with this solution that does seem to work for me. First my configuration. I have a Google Samsung Nexus S 4G CMDA handset running Gingerbread. My laptop has an original Windows 7 Home basic with a wifi router in built. I browse the net using my Reliance Netconnect + USB modem. As I had explained in my earlier post, the moment I install Connectify, it would corrupt my modem drivers and I would no longer be able to connect to the internet. So Connectify was no longer an option. I did also try a software called "mHotspot" which you dont need to install but just run. This too did not work for me. Finally, after a lot of searching, I arrived at the following solution: - (a) Make sure you have the latest drivers for your wifi router. Download if required. (B ) Open the command prompt as an Administrator (for those who dont know, this enables you to work with Admin privileges in Command prompt mode, so that you can install, modify with complete freedom). For this, click on Start button, go to Accessories, right click on Command Prompt and click on "Run as Administrator". Enter the admin password if required. (c ) Turn on the wifi router, if not already on. (d) Type the following in the command prompt window: (without the quotation marks) "netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=SSID key=password" (Here enter the desired name for the network in place of SSID and enter a suitable 8 character password in place of password (e) The following would be the response: The hosted network has been set to allow. The ssid of the hosted network has been successfully changed. The user key passphrase of the hosted network has been successfully changed. (f) Next type the following at the command prompt again: (without the quotation marks again) "netsh wlan start hostednetwork" You wil get the following response: The hosted network started. (g) Next go to Control Panel>Network and Sharing Centre>Change adapter settings This will open all the connections available in your computer including your BB+ connection and the connection that you have just created. Right click on the BB+ connection, go to properties, go to sharing tab. Check the box which says "Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection" and select the home networking connection that you just created in the box below that. (h) Now you can connect to the internet. Turn on the wifi of your phone, search for networks. Enter the password that you had entered while creating the wireless network in command prompt and click on connect. You will now find that you are on wifi network using the internet connection shared through your laptop!

Please suggest between Samsung Fascinate or HTC EVO or Nexus S
Rahul Always replied to Jasmin Shah's topic in Handset Suggestions
Well the Fascinate and Nexus both are equal I would say as far as comparison goes. The only advantage that I see as far as the Fascinate is concerned is the availability of external storage whereas the Nexus is restricted to 16GB of internal storage. But the Nexus has a secondary camera which can be used for Video calling which the Fascinate lasts. The Nexus also comes pre-loaded with the Gingerbread version of Android. All said and done, go ahead and choose one that is most comfortable and enjoy it completely! -
I joined this forum on 22 Jul and am already a proud owner of a Nexus S 4g all thanks to the amazing discussions which happen here which gave me the confidence to go ahead and pay someone I dont even know Thanks a lot to everyone who helped me in choosing a handset (even though I never actually bought any of the ones I forced everyone to discuss) Thanks to Hetalji, Parin and others whom I troubled asking for prices and then did not actually pick up handsets. Special thanks to Saddik from whom I got my first Android and who ensured that my transition was smooth as silk! And I felt really good yesterday when he helped someone activate his handset past midnight, when I told him on gmail chat about the problem I read in Rimweb. Even though it is Ramadan, he still was gracious enough to help out. Hats off to him. Lastly, thanks once more to this wonderful forum without which we would all never have known all these wonderful mods and super sellers and simply knowledgeable people who willingly spend time ensuring we newbies walk easily into a new world!

Please suggest between Samsung EPIC 4G or Fascinate
Rahul Always posted a topic in Handset Suggestions
Dear All, I am a really new user here and I must admit that have been really fascinated by the kind of discussions that happen here. I am glad I stumbled upon this forum. I have been looking to upgrade my handset. I am using Reliance CDMA pre paid and looking for a handset which can offer me the following: - (a) Should be of decent size (about 4") I guess (b ) Should have good or at least decent network coverage (c ) Should be EVDO capable (d) Should have good built in GPS with decent cold start times (e) Should have decent speakers so that I can listen to music on the go without resorting to use of head phones and also capable of FM if possible I have more or less decided to go for a Samsung phone simply because I feel the AMOLED screen comes across as better as compared to the LCD of the HTC. I dont mind an HTC too if someone suggests the same but then I had one bad experience with an HTC EVO 4G where I found that the speaker of the phone generally tends to blow out at higher volumes. If I were to make a choice between Epic 4G or Fascinate, which one would be more apt? I really would appreciate and am sorry if I have made a mistake by posting another query which might have already been answered before Regards Rahul -
Please suggest between Samsung EPIC 4G or Fascinate
Rahul Always replied to Rahul Always's topic in Handset Suggestions
Thanks everyone for their suggestions and ideas. I finally went in for the Samsung Nexus 4G from Saddik. Got it configured yesterday. Now just enjoying playing around with it. I guess I did end up wasting a lot of people's time here and want to personally thank everyone who has spared their time in trying to ensure that I was made more knowledgeable about the various options available. Thanks once more Warm regards Rahul -

New Online Reservation Website For Indian Railways
Rahul Always replied to rajanmehta's topic in The Lounge
Well you would realise that in most government agencies the top brass are quite co-operative, the only problem being that access to them is limited and difficult. But if indeed you do reach them, they would be more than willing to help. Anyway good Hitesh atleast you could cancel your ticket. -
Well generally the ones who start new are never the common man on the street but people who either have inside information or just plain lucky. The normal person sees the success that the starters enjoy and try and latch on to the same success which is when they end up losing money. And by the way, the name of this topic either needs to be changed to "Discussions on Speakasia" or else we should also discuss other websites here. I am sure there are other websites that do pay actually. Something like pay to click?
-
Well I would beg to differ here. The only people who are actually laughing are the ones who started the scam. The common man who thought this was a legitimate way to earn some extra money invested his hard earned money in the vain hope of increasing it. The man on the street is the one who has been the hardest hit with the breaking up of Speakasia.
