National Telecom Policy 2011 - No More Roaming Charges!
Rahul Always replied to SumitVerma's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
In addition to no roaming charges (which is free incoming while roaming), the policy also talked about numbers which are zone free, which means one would be able to retain the same number even while switching zones! Truly pan India numbers in future. Cant wait for that to happen! -

He was a true legend in his own right. Would be really missed. I learned to love ghazals after listening to him and Pankaj Udhas. RIP

Jobs was one person who revolutionized the industry with his "out of the box" ideas. His concept of being different was what led him to being so successful. Really sad that he is no more, and that too, at such a young age. RIP Steve Jobs.

Really sad news indeed. Jobs was someone who transformed the digital world and showed everyone how great it can be. His name had become synonymous with everything that Apple stood for. May his soul rest in peace! Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk

iPhone 4S has provided the opportunity for both Samsung and HTC to get back with the new phone from the Apple stable failing to impress. Other than the most loyal of fans, the latest offering from Apple was not treated with much rejoicing. In fact, the shares of Samsung, HTC and LG Electronics, who all make phones using Google's Android OS all experienced a northward movement post the disappointing release of iPhone 4S. Source: http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/tech/news/hardware/iPhone-4S-Opportunity-for-Samsung-HTC/articleshow/10242111.cms I wonder how it would affect the patent war on between Apple and Samsung in lots of countries at present? Only time can tell. Also looks like Steve Jobs chose the right moment to leave!

EBay Account Registration after getting suspended
Rahul Always replied to aviator's topic in The Lounge
Ebay has been plagued by non serious bidders who simply spoil an auction by bidding and then refusing to pay for the item once they have won it. The worst part of the entire issue has been the non-communication. Am sure any seller would not mind waiting for some time for a serious buyer to pay for an item, if at all, he is facing a cash crunch. However, in the absence of such issues, sellers are forced to open cases against such bidders and ebay has no option but to bar them from further activity on the site. It is just a means of ensuring that an online site continues to remain clean and helpful for people who want to genuinely sell items. -
@Kapil thanks a lot for the words. Would love to continue to be an active member as much as I can and time permits. And yes, this HAS become an addiction to me too

I have been in a recent entrant to this forum and I must admit I am loving it. Have learnt a lot about Androids in particular and CDMA in general. The mods are super, everyone is helpful and people have been more than open about discussions. Anything and everything seems to be welcome as long as it is decent and relevant. There has been one issue that I have kind of been facing (or maybe something that has been troubling me, if that is the word), I kind of feel like a leecher at times. I keep extracting a lot out of this, but have not been really able to contribute even my wee bit back to this community. Now considering myself as a total newbie in this fascinating world, I really don't know what I can do. I am sure the same issue has been haunting a lot of people out here. Take the classic case of my first topic itself. I wanted a suggestion for a phone and people really poured their hearts out while they suggested a proper handset to me. Amongst all the discussions, everyone continued to remain neutral and not really put down or promote any particular phone. It was fascinating, to say the least, to learn about everything and finally myself walk into the deep waters of Android. Having done that, now I kind of feel like I too want to contribute something back, in return. But what do I do? I really have no clue. I am not so technologically savvy, esp about the mobile world that I can talk as intelligently as a lot of people out here. Please suggest how many of us can pay back what we get out here.... Something I am sure other newbies too must be asking. Any suggestion welcome. If practical, surely would oblige. Regards Rahul

Updated: Pesky SMSs/Calls: Major relief to users from March 21, 2011
Rahul Always replied to Arun's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
Essential services will continue to be exempted under the ban. The problem is that service operators are working in the fear psychosis of the average Indian customer and making them unsubscribe to the DND services under some garb or the other. There is no way that a bank can state that normal SMS which they are supposed to send once you withdraw cash or carry out a credit card transaction falls within the purview of DND and therefore would not be sent. Hope consumers stop falling prey to these foolish games. -
2G Scam: Supreme Court Quashes 122 Licences issued in 2008
Rahul Always replied to csmart's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
Why is the CBI silent so far on the role of Mr Chidambaram? Or is someone (very very powerful) behind the scenes pulling strings? I would love to see what happens if the court allows Mr Chidambaram to be made a witness on the behest of A Raja! -
I did not know where to post this topic so what better a place than the "Off Topic" thread. Ops may move it to appropriate place, if warranted. I just happened to be browsing forums and saw this website >>> www.viber.com. As the website claims, it offers completely free phone calls and SMS to users all around the world using Wifi or 3G, whichever is available. It is available for users of both Androids and iPhones with the downloadable software available on the Market and for Iphone users. It claims to offer the ability to make completely free calls and send text messages to any other user who also has Viber installed in their phone. If so be the case, it certainly sounds interesting. I dont know how much of the claim is true but they also claim to be free of ads. They also plan to introduce the same for BBs too, so all those with BBs with have another option to chat / talk in addition to the BBM. I did try and search for Viber here in our forums and did not see it so decided to go ahead and post it. I am sure it would be of immense help, especially for those who make a lot of international calls. Regards Rahul

Did you guys notice any difference after the upgrade? I am not really sure so asking!

Since this topic is anyway about Nexus S, also wanted to ask the gurus here if there is some way to reduce bloatware in mobiles? I am sure we all install a lot of software from the market and then uninstall them later on. What is there to "clean" up all traces of the software (similar to registry cleaning software available in windows)? Can someone please help out? Mine is an unrooted phone.

Looks good and 4.5 inches sounds delicious The specs are also awesome. Waiting to see the price band!

Former India Captain Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi Passes Away
Rahul Always replied to Honest's topic in The Lounge
He was someone who brought glamour to the playing field and continued to remain a perfect gentleman on and off the field. He was a perfect husband and a loving dad. Really sad on hearing of the loss. My heartfelt condolences to his family. -
@ Abhay, I too received the message and have undertaken updating of my Nexus S. I am presently in Android 2.3.7. Not faced any problems with Reliance network etc. The only issue I had with the OTA update was the addition of two apps, namely Google Wallet and Google Shopper. Since my phone is not rooted, there is no way I can uninstall either of them. Other than that, no issues with the updates. Phone continues to work satisfactorily. @Tanveer, the earlier stock version was 2.3.5.
