I have something to add here. Don't know how many members have access to this document but it has a lot of AT commands for CDMA modems. This document was specifically written for the Sierra Wireless Aircard555 PCMCIA card but i think these will work for most/all CDMA phones. You can get the document at http://mrasool.info/2130184.pdf Hope this helps.

No it is not possible to use GSK on non-provisioned handsets. I even tried to use the HCC on a similar handset as stated by kshah. But it just does not work. Maybe because the phone parameters (read ESN) have to be in the Reliance database for that to happen. And rakesh5295 what do you mean when you say "the startup kit works with it. gsk is diff." Kindly clarify.

But it seems that no serial data cable for Samsung CDMA phones is available on eBay (formerly Baazee) anymore. kshah would you kindly make one and send it to me. Or you could tell me if it's available with a particular reseller on eBay.

Thanks for the good work. I intend to dothis with the Samsung SCH-N191 but i do not have the serial data cable for the same. So the result being that i cannot use it with BitPim. Will kshah tell me where to get the samsung serial cable form ? Thanks in advance

Thanks vb86 for giving us the exact date for the spectrum policy form TRAI. Where did you get that date from ? Some newspaper or you know somebody at TRAI House ? Yes TRAI is considering allocating chunks from the 450 MHz (European-analog band) and 1800 MHz (European-GSM and Korean-CDMA2000 1x band) for the CDMA2000 1x and CDMA2000 1x EV-DO services. But only one member from the TRAI council is objecting to the allocation of frequency in the 1900 MHz band for the CDMA operators. If USA and Canada can have both GSM/GPRS and CDMA2000 1x operators in the 1900 MHz band, why can't we ? They must have also faced the same issues, but did sort them out. And by the way CDMA2000 1x and CDMA2000 1x EV-DO are as much an IMT2000 3G service as WCDMA. So both CDMA and GSM operators have equal rights at the 1900 MHz and 2100 MHz bands for 3G services. We at present shouldn't get 450 MHz or 1800 MHz(used only in Korea for CDMA services) for CDMA operators because it will really stunt their growth due to the lack of equipment and handsets. Therefore i request everybody here to send an e-mail to TRAI asking them to use the US-Canada model to allocate frequencies for both CDMA2000 1x and WCDMA in the 1900 MHz band. The e-mail ID is trai@del2.vsnl.net.in and the telefax number is 011-2610 3294

Yes this can be done. But there's a catch. I have tried it on a Nokia CDMA handset and LG handset by putting the RIM PRL in them. But the GSK process just does not complete. And hey i can do it on any handset by putting in the correct PRL and an already working ESN into the handset. Just waiting to lay my hands on a good handset. And blackmamba "tumne mere muh se alfaaz cheen liye" I have been waiting to get my hands on a Treo 650 myself. I will program yours and can you get one for me too ? Just get a serial cable to go with it.

The Samsung SCH-N191 cable is now available with the Samsung ASCs. I visited the one in my city in early February 2005 and the cables had just started to come in. The cable must work with SCH-N356 also as the pinouts and the PC Link software is the same. The chap at the ASC said that you can order the cable (Rs. 1200) and not buy it if it does not work with the PC Link software . It seems they are not sure themselves. I have the picture for the cable but it is too large in size to be posted here. I'll try it out and tell the forum about it. The part number for the cable is PCB129SBEC/IND And if anybody can check out if their ASC has the cable in ready stock, they can post their experience here. I tried a Samsung SGH-C100(GSM) serial cable on my SCH-N191 with Bitpim 0.7.14. It opens the COM port fine but has the problem of not being able to transition to the BREW mode. And am sorry for cross posting, but i think this reply is relevant for both the threads.

Yes vb86 is right. We in India and every other country that have CDMA operators have used 800 MHz band natively. The 1900 MHz band was introduced later. All CDMA based mobile and WLL-M operators in India , i.e. RIM , Tata Indicom , Garuda(MTNL), Tarang(BSNL),CityMobile(Shyam Telelink Ltd.) & ConnectMobile (HFCL Infotel Ltd.) use the 800 MHz band. And the GSM operators use the 900 & 1800 MHz bands. And RIM is currently testing the CDMA2000 1x EV-DO service over the 1900 MHz band and plans to commercially launch the service in Dec 2005 (If DoT allots them the 1900 MHz band). Eagerly waiting for that service. It has a maximum theoretical speed of 2.4 Mbps and gives real throughput of around 600 Kbps.

I am having the same problem as ami114. I have a Samsung SCH-N191 phone and the original USB data cable from Reliance. As far as i know , it does not contain any Prolific chip in it. Even if i download the original drivers from the Reliance site, no COM port ever shows up in the system settings , BitPim or UniCDMA. Can anybody help ? -
Yes Nokia 3105 is available with RIM. The only problem is that they have added the handset to their portfolio a few days back. So it's availability in all cities is still doubtful. We will have to wait a little longer before new stocks arrive at all places. And the Nokia 3205 will be launched by Nokia before the end of December 2004. It is the CDMA eqivalent the Nokia 3200 (GSM) just as the Nokia 3105 is the CDMA equivalent of the Nokia 3100 (GSM). So expect almost the same functionality. But we don't know for sure how soon Tata Indicom and RIM will add the Nokia 3205 to their portfolio. It is a good phone but the looks are pathetic. And Tata has a long way to go before it's network matches that of RIM.

There was an old post here on rimweb.com that described the use of the USB-Serial conerter for an LG phone on an Apple PowerBook or iBook or iMac. I tried all search options but i just cannot find that post . Was it removed ? If no can somebody please post the link here.

This is the link i was looking for. I had been looking for this post on the Handsets and RConnect sections. Thanks Chirag

I don't think that the Nokia 3205 is going to come out on RIM. By what rumours i've heard from the market, this phone will most probably be available on Tata Indicom . They will use it as their main entry level phone once they set up their pan-India network by December or the end of this fiscal.
