Gmail Chat With Voice And Video Support Want to see and hear your friends while chatting? Google has added voice and video support to the Gmail chat application within the browser. Previously, only voice support was available through the GTalk application-the standalone GTalk client. With this addition, Google has finally provided a much needed feature. The two functions can be added by installing a plug-in. To install the plug-in, select any contact and then click on the "Video & More" option. After installation, you can initiate voice or video chat by clicking on the "Video & More" link. Your friend at the other end will receive a ring, with an option to accept or deny the chat request. The remaining functions are similar to that existing in the earlier Gmail chat application. You have the option to open the chat in a separate window as well as increase or decrease its size. Justin Uberti, a Google software engineer, in Blog Post says, "The video function was designed via open standards, which means that third-party applications and networks can choose to interoperate with Gmail voice and video chat. The offering was developed by Google teams in the U.S. and Sweden, so collaborating across continents and time zones is a fact of life for us, and it sure is easier (and greener) to click 'Start Video Chat' than to get on a plane!" Voice and video chat is available on Macs running Mac OS X v10.4 or later versions and PCs running Windows XP or later versions. Courtesy : Techtree

^^^ My dear friend, you are right that network problem is their with GSM also. But I'm stating specially Reliance here. Believe me, from the last 3 months their are a lot of network issues with Reliance. At my place I'm having 5 Reliance phones including FWP. Earlier I used to get superb network at my place, but now, it s**ks. And not ony at my place, but also at some other places their are Call Drops and Network Fluctuation issues. They are not taking these network issues seriously. Seems Reliance people are busy for their Gsm startup. Network Fluctuation in Reliance is now common in most places. I do agree that earlier Reliance provided the best network for its Cdma services that why I had 5 Reliance handsets. They have to work on Network Issues, otherwise they will be loosing their many subscribers like me. Regards.

3G cos to pay 3% spectrum fee from Jan'09: Telecom Secy Moneycontrol l 11 November Siddartha Behura, Telecom Secretary, said the 3G companies will pay 3% spectrum fee and will get a moratorium on the spectrum fee in first year itself. Behura said no decision has been taken yet on 1-time spectrum enhancement fee, but rise in spectrum charges is effective from January 1 2009. Companies offering 2G and 3G service will pay spectrum fee from the start, he added. According to source-based reports from Newswire18, DoT or Department of Telecom may ask companies to pay one-time spectrum charge by March 31 2009 and the new companies will pay extra charge at time of spectrum allotment. Earlier today, a report from Newswire18 said, Bharti Airtel has added 2.72 million subscribers in October compared with 2.7 million in September. Meanwhile, Idea added 1.2 million subscribers in October versus 1.1 million in September. MTNL added 66,097 subscribers for the same month as against 38,478 in September and Spice Communications added 37,385 subscribers in October compared with 36,614 in September. Thus total October GSM subscriber summed up at 7.7 million versus 7.69 million in September. -
^^^ @Basant My dear friend, as you know that Reliance Gsm services are going to start by next month, so in our opinion you should wait for atleast a month. Their's no problem to spend huge amount on Cdma handset, may be its palm or HTC. But now a days Network in Reliance CDMA seems to be worst. Call Drops are increased a lot. Network Fluctuation is a common problem in Reliance now a days. And Reliance people are not responding to Network issues in CDMA as they used to be. So, keep in mind these network issues with Reliance CDMA before buying any Cdma handset. Regards.

Updated: 3G Auction completed after 34 days of bidding
Honest replied to Arun's topic in Indian Telecom / General News
3G on fast track: Ministries work out compromise formula MoneyControl l 10 Nov l New Delhi With just two months left for 3G auction, the Ministry of Communication and the Defence Ministry are putting together a plan of action for getting the spectrum vacated by the armed forces in a phased manner. According to the proposal being finalised, the Telecom Ministry may agree to build an optical fibre cable system for the Army and Navy in addition to the one being rolled out for the Air Force. The Defence Ministry, on its part, could agree to give the Department of Telecom two-three years to complete the network for the Army and Navy. According to the proposal, only the radio frequency being used by the Air Force will be vacated by December, since it has the major chunk of the spectrum. For this the cable network being built by BSNL at a cost of over Rs 1,000 crore will be handed over to the Air Force by March next year. BSNL will lay a cable network connecting 162 Air Force sites across the country. Of this, 25 have been completed and another 88 will be done by December 2008. Easing the shortage At present, there is a shortage of 3G spectrum in nine circles including Delhi, Rajasthan, Gujarat and West Bengal. The shortage will be eased once the Air Force releases the spectrum after moving its communication to the new cable network. For the Army and Navy, a network of 40,000 route km will be rolled out connecting 270 locations. DoT has also offered the Army two options for laying the network — one of which is at a cost of Rs 14,250 crore over a three-year period. Alternative plan Earlier, the defence forces were insisting that the Telecom Ministry should build an alternative medium of communication for all the three wings of armed forces simultaneously. However, DoT had refused to build a network for the Army and Navy on the grounds that they had only a small portion of spectrum. Out of the 45 Mhz spectrum under consideration, the Air Force has 42.5 Mhz. DoT had not agreed to a network for the Army and Navy because it will cost upwards of Rs 5,000 crore for getting just 2.5 Mhz spectrum. The standoff between the two Ministries had threatened to delay the launch of 3G services in the country prompting the Prime Minister to set up a Group of Ministers headed by the External Affairs Minister, Mr Pranab Mukherjee. A committee under the National Security Advisor was also set up to resolve the issue. The NSA had directed that the spectrum will be released by the defence services after a concrete action is initiated on the alternative optical fibre cable network. The GoM is expected to meet next week to ratify the action plan. -
