  4. ^^^ Actually we are very eagerly waiting for the launch of Reliance Gsm services nationwide. And if we get a chance to retain our present Cdma number with Gsm, then obviously we will think to jump over to Reliance Gsm. Atleast in Gsm we can get quality handsets. Regards.
  5. Increasing Signal Strength

MY dear friends, I don't think that their is a provision on internal antenna in RD6600. Only solution to this case is to file a complaint with customer care and ask them to do the needful. They can boost the signals in your area. By the way, now a days, we noticed that call drops and signal problems are very frequent with Reliance Cdma. Regards.

  7. My dear friends, even I too went to ICICI branch to withdraw maximum cash. But after I saw a letter from RBI on the entrance of ICICI bank, I decided to come back. The letter from Reserve Bank of India clearly mentioned that ICICI is capitalised with good liquidity, their's no need to panic. ^^^ Exactly, thats what I too thought and come back without withdrawing a single penny. And in the evening I received this SMS from ICICI bank : Your deposits with ICICI bank are safe. Your bank is well capitalized with good liquidity. Please do not listen to baseless rumours. Happy festive season. Regards.

  9. 10k telemarketers disconnected Economic Times l 12 Oct l New Delhi Telecom regulator Trai has said that the telephone connections of over 10,000 telemarketers have been disconnected for calling mobile subscribers registered with the ‘National Do Not Call’ (DNC) registry. Of those, 8,602 disconnections are of unregistered telemarketers. Currently, India has about 20,000 registered telemarketers and an equal number of unregistered players. Trai, which has been heavily criticised over the DNC being ineffective, has pointed out that a mere 5% or 18 million of India’s 300 million-plus mobile users have opted to join this registry. The regulator added that in addition to the disconnections, over 8,500 telemarketers have been fined Rs 500 each, while another 2,801 telemarketers have been fined Rs 1,000 each for violation of DNC rules. Trai said it was taking steps to achieve ‘near zero tolerance in handling the non-compliant telemarketers’. As per its data, during the past six months, service providers had received over 81,000 complaints and of these, more than 79,000 were addressed while around 1,600 were pending. “Considering that more than 18 million subscribers are registered, these complaints constitute about 0.44% of the total registered subscribers. We have also issued preliminary show-cause notices to various service providers for not taking action on the guilty telemarketers,” Trai added. Registered telemarketers are increasingly checking (scrubbing) their numbers against the DNC registry before making calls.

Future's bright for video streaming, voice SMS Economic Times l 11 Oct l New Delhi The first wave of Mobile VAS companies offering regular ringtone and music downloads seems to be over. Venture Capitalists like Canaan Partners, Draper Fisher Juvertson, Helion, Nexus India among others are more interested in innovative product offerings in this space like mobile payment options, advertising, voice-based SMS and satellite video streaming. According to Venture Intelligence, 2007 saw nine deals ($41 million) in the mobile VAS space, while the first 9 months of this year have already seen seven deals worth $91 million. VCs, whom ET spoke to, are bullish on the segment considering the 20% y-o-y growth it has seen. Mobile VAS has a $700 million market today, which is expected to hit $3 billion by 2012. “Ringtones and ringbacktones offer low revenues. VCs today are looking at applications that are independent third party innovations and are not dictated by operators,” said Pramod Saxena, MD, Oxigen, a mobile commerce player in which Microsoft had picked a 36% equity investment earlier this year. The more niche the service, the better are the chances of it being noticed. One97 Communications is doing just that. “We are looking at innovations and intelligent applications compatible with 3G in India,” said Vijay Shekhar Sharma, managing director, One97 Communications. The Indian government will auction 3G spectrum later this year and that is set to trigger a new war in the Mobiel VAS segment with newer players wanting to join the fray to offer high-end content. Looking at the future potential, Helion Partners and Silicon Valley Bank have already invested in One97. Draper Fisher Jurvetson (DFJ) has considerable experience in VAS because of their investments in the US. In India, they had invested in two mobile VAS companies, mGinger and mChek in late 2007. mChek provides an on-demand solution for mobile payments. “We are looking at companies with some differentiation. We need to see if the model is scalable even without a mobile operator and the monetisation aspect,” said Sachin Maheshwari, principal, DFJ. “Indian VAS companies haven't yet developed quality content around areas such as superstition, religion and patriotism which have a huge appeal in India,” says Prashant Singhal, national telecom industry leader, Ernst & Young. Canaan Partners has led an investment of $5.25 million in Cellcast Asia, a digital content provider and has plans to invest in a number of other innovate VAS providers in the future. One97 received Series A funding of $8-10 million from SAIF Partners late last year and OnMobile raised $27.8 million in a second round from a clutch of investors like Goldman Sachs, Deutsche Bank, and Polygon Investment Partners.
  18. TN to wait till January for 3G mobile services Economic Times l 11 Oct l Chennai While Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will launch 3G services in New Delhi this December, Tamil Nadu will have to wait a month more for the same. Union minister of communication and IT A Raja said on Friday TN chief minister M Karunanidhi would launch 3G services in January next year during Pongal. About the prices expected for the global auction, Mr Raja said that he was not sure if the auction would fetch the expected price due to the global economic crisis. It was earlier reported that the finance ministry hoped to earn at least Rs 40,000 crore by selling spectrum for 3G mobile services. The department of telecom also announced recently that UK-based NM Rothschild to conduct the global auction. BSNL and MTNL have already been allotted spectrum for the 3G roll out. On not going for an auction in 2G services, Raja said he was only following the National Telecom Policy, 1999, and his predecessors in the ministry who followed the policy of first-cum-first-serve basis. He cited the example of his predecessor Dayanidhi Maran, who gave license to 24 companies and spectrum to 12 companies following the same procedure. The government has earned Rs 40,000 crore in the past 40 months due to the revenue sharing basis model as license fee and spectrum charge. Mr Raja said he expects the revenue to go up as more players join, increasing the competition. About talks of bias towards Swan Telecom, Mr Raja said that his ministry had followed the processes transparently and one could file an RTI application to get further details. “Swan Telecom was also rejected in a few of the telecom circles in Bihar and Jammu & Kashmir. I am open to any enquiry,” Mr Raja added.

  21. DoT calls for mobile handset authentication Press Trust of India l 10 Oct l New Delhi Department of Telecom has directed all service providers to ensure that mobile handsets are authenticated in their networks to enable security agencies to trace the devices. DoT's direction comes after hoardes of unauthenticated cheap mobile handsets, most of them belonging to Chinese vendors, flooded the market, which do not have the mandatory IMEI or the International Mobile Equipment Identification number, which makes them untraceable in the event of a crisis. These handsets have either all zeros or no number at all as IMEI numbers, according to officials. "This has posed national security," DoT said. DoT has asked the operators to set up Equipment Identity Register (EIR) that can be used for authentication and security purposes. EIR is a databse that contains a list of all valid mobile equipment on the network where each mobile number is identified by its IMEI. In the interest of security of the nation, all service providers are directed to make provision for EIR so that calls without IMEI with all zeros are not processed and rejected. They need to equip their network with EIR facility, DoT said. DoT wants the task to be completed within 2 months.
