Now Go Global, Pay Local With V-tel Mobile
Honest posted a topic in Other Network / Cellular Providers
Now Go Global, Pay Local With V-Tel Mobile For those who travel abroad often, and hate to buy a new country-specific SIM each time in order to save on international roaming charges -- stop juggling around with multiple SIM cards. Here's a new option wherein you can buy a SIM just once and then use it as a local card in most of the countries you travel to for your entire lifetime. Dhanus Technologies has launched its V-Tel Mobile service that allows users to buy a SIM for Rs 999 in activation fees, and use it for a lifetime by paying only so much that a local person in that country would pay to make a call. This service is a step ahead of other calling card services such as Matrix, where users have to rent a SIM for Rs 25 a day plus pay the local calling charges every time they go abroad, which again is rendered useless once you leave that country. In case of V-Tel, the card can be used for an entire lifetime and in any country, provided it is recharged once in every six months to keep it active. Users can check their usage and bill amounts online. However, the glitch here is that the card cannot be used in India as some regulations do not support usage of such a service in the country. The card also doesn't work on Blackberry devices, not yet. The company says that something will be done towards fixing that problem since majority of those who frequently travel abroad also happen to be Blackberry users. During the occasion, A D Sudhindhra, executive chairman of Dhanus Technologies, said, "With the Indian telecommunications market booming and with about 10 million Indians traveling abroad every year, it is estimated that one in every four of the next billion subscribers will be an Indian; and this provides immense potential to offer V-Tel mobile services to Indians who travel abroad frequently." The V-Tel mobile service can be used in around 229 countries with more than 250 mobile service providers. The card can be purchased and recharged online. However, the recharge will be in dollars or euros or pounds depending on where the top-up is being requested. Source : Techtree -

Christian Dior Gets Into The Mobile Biz Yet another fashion icon has decided that they want to enter the mobile phone segment. After Samsung’s Armani, LG’s Prada and Dolce and Gabbana with Motorola got the Gold RAZR making waves, Christian Dior has got their mobile groove on with ModeLabs and has launched a fashionable handset in different color options. This premium handset comes with features that include a camera and a touch screen interface. What’s unique about it is a convenient solution for women so they won’t need to file through a large bag full of personal effects looking for their phone. The solution is a small device called ‘My Dior’ which acts as a mini handset of sorts that can be clipped to the outside of a bag. This way users won’t need to use the main handset itself but just this device. The main handset would be used for messaging, web access etc. The price of this luxury phone is a whopping Rs. 2,14,150 ($5000). For that price it had better have some truly spectacular features. Nokia Displays Green "Remade" Among a string of new products and technologies showcased at the recently-concluded Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Nokia displayed an interesting concept phone, "Remade", made almost entirely out of recycled materials, including Aluminium cans, old plastic bottles, and car tyres. The phone stems from Nokia's commitment to the "Green" motif - it's a device that will be less of a strain on natural resources while reducing landfill and increasing energy efficiency. The phone is in the concept stage, and will take time to hit the market. Unveiled by Nokia CEO Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo, "Remade", though still a concept, demonstrates what can be done using nearly no new materials to build a mobile phone, as the company reiterated. Reportedly, "Remade" is designed as a slim flip-phone with a metal shell and a keypad made of recycled aluminium cans, while the chassis is made of plastic from discarded soda bottles. The rubber parts of the phone come from old car tyres, while its power-saving LCD and internal circuitry are also made from recycled products. Meanwhile, Nokia is believed to be working on another "Green" concept called "Eco Sensor", which comprises a wearable mobile phone plus a sensing device capable of analyzing a person's health and surroundings. For the immediate future, however, the company has in the pipeline its "3110 Evolve", made from over 50 percent renewable materials. "Evolve" bundles a charger that promises to use 94 percent less energy. It comes with a 1.3 mega pixels camera, FM tuner, MP3 player, and expandable memory with microSD card slot. The phone will, however, only be available in the UK and Germany when it ships in the second half of this year.

Nokia Displays Green "remade"
Honest replied to Honest's topic in Other Network / Cellular Providers
Nokia to Launch 40 Eco-friendly Handsets Nokia is reportedly planning on doing a rather large bit for the environment by launching close to 40 biodegradable handsets by the end of the year. They’ve already started things off with their 3110 Evolve and designs for their Eco Sensor. While these handsets may have either left the drawing board or still be on it, one wonders how a mobile phone that needs metal parts or components could be made biodegradable. According to sources, D. Shivakumar, VP and managing director, Nokia India, said that the company would be using biodegradable phone covers, recyclable battery designs that use less harmful toxic materials and energy efficient accessories for all their forthcoming phones and that they'd already eliminated the use of PVC (polyvinyl chloride) in all their phones. Apparently in the US, Nokia includes envelopes in the sales packs that have a return address with postage paid, specifically for consumers to return used handsets etc. to the company for recycling. The company is planning on having special Green Bins in India located at priority centers to make things even more convenient for consumers to drop off their old handsets. Some of their other ‘Green’ attempts are to train their employees working in the distribution and priority centers to advice consumers on recycling issues. What I’d like to understand is who would do something like that in our country. The strategy here of course is to exchange your old handset for a new one. It’s rather unlikely that a consumer would simply drop off an unused handset into a box with no remuneration for its worth. But you have to hand it to Nokia for at least trying. The other manufacturers are also getting into the groove of keeping things as green as they can and all I have to say is it’s about time. Source : Tech2 -
