Bharti says TRAI's 2G proposals unfair The Economic Times l 9 Feb l New Delhi Bharti Airtel, India's top mobile carrier, said on Wednesday second-generation mobile spectrum pricing proposals by India's telecom regulator fails to provide a level playing ground between older and newer operators. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India's (TRAI) has recommended to the government steep increase in prices of 2G spectrum that would also see companies holding more than 6.2 mega hertz spectrum paying a one-time fee for that. "The recommendations by TRAI goes against the stated principle of the government to offer affordability, fairness and level playing field," Bharti Airtel said in a statement. Bharti said it was confident that the government would come out with a spectrum pricing policy that is fair and non-discriminatory.

The Most Awaited MNP Finally Introduced!
Honest replied to SumitVerma's topic in Mobile Number Portability (MNP)
17.11 lakh requests received for MNP – TRAI According to the latest figures revealed by TRAI more than 17.11 lakh mobile subscribers across India submitted their requests for switching to other mobile service provider in MNP regime. Mobile Number Portability became a reality across India since 20h Jan 2011 except for Haryana which was the first circle to witness MNP on 25th Nov 2010. Haryana circle registered 2.29 requests while rest of the country, in Zone-I (Northern & Western Region) maximum number of requests have been received in Gujarat (1.67 lakhs) followed by Rajasthan (1.44 lakhs) whereas in MNP Zone-II (Southern & Eastern Region) maximum number of requests have been received in Karnataka (1.16 lakh) followed by Tamilnadu service area (1.14 lakh). But this data pertains to number of requests only not the actual ported in and ported out which is actually much lesser than that as all requests are not processed because of range of reasons. Recently teleguru shared exclusive data of port-in MNP customers, where Vodafone was leading among all operator. MNP has not been a smooth sailing for all customers as telecom operators are playing tricks to avoid loosing customers to competitors. TRAI has been monitoring the implementation of MNP in the country and it has instructed the service providers to strictly comply with the provisions of MNP Regulations. TRAI has noted that certain port-in requests were rejected by the service providers and major reasons for rejections are due to incorrect Unique Porting Code submitted by subscriber in the porting form, non-completion of 90 days from the date of activation of mobile number, existing contractual obligation and non-payment of outstanding bill. 2G Scam: Supreme Court Quashes 122 Licences issued in 2008

Raja remanded to CBI custody for two more days The Economic Times l 8 Feb l New Delhi Former Telecom Minister A Raja was on Tuesday remanded to two more days of CBI custody by a court here for further interrogation after the agency submitted that he was not divulging any "useful information" regarding his role in the 2G scam. Special Judge O P Saini also sent former Telecom Secretary Siddartha Behura and Raja's former Personal Secretary R K Chandolia to Tihar Jail under judicial custody as the agency said it no longer needs them in its custody. Raja will remain in CBI custody till February 10. The trio, arrested by the agency on February 2 for their alleged role in the 2G spectrum allocation scam, involving a loss of Rs 22,000 crore to the public exchequer as per the CVC estimates, were produced before the Special Judge following expiry of their five-day custody with the CBI. After producing the trio before the court, the CBI sought four more days of custody to interrogate Raja saying that he was "not divulging any useful and crucial information" about his role in 2G spectrum scam. "Some more documents are to be recovered and accused A Raja is to be confronted with them," senior CBI prosecutor Akhilesh submitted. Refuting allegations by Raja's counsel Ramesh Gupta that the agency had not disclosed to the court the outcome of the probe conducted so far in this case, Akhilesh said, "The case diary has already been submitted to the court. Each and everything cannot be disclosed in the open courtroom." Opposing CBI's demand for four more days of Raja's custody, Gupta said, "I am not having the custody of any document, which the CBI wants to recover from me." "Whatever documents were there, they have already been seized by them in 2009 itself," he added. About Behura and Chandolia, the CBI counsel said the agency no longer needs their custody. "The two can be sent to Tihar Jail under judicial custody," he said. -

'Half of all techies suffer from neck or back pain' A survey of 1,000-odd employees working in the IT sector carried out locally has thrown up alarming results - nearly half suffer from neck and back pain. What's more, over 20% complained of stress and headaches. Director of Mission Health Dr Alaap Shah said that 970 employees of IT companies in the age-group of 23 to 36 years were studied. "We were surprised to find that of the IT executives, 46.15% suffered from neck pain and 58.97% complained of back pain. Also, 21% suffered from stress, while 23% complained of regular headaches," said Dr Shah. Dr Shah said that neck and back pain have almost become an occupational hazard of sorts for corporate employees, especially those working in the IT sector, who spend most of the day at a desk, working on a computer. "What is alarming is that some professionals exhibited severe spine problems at a young age when their problem becomes so severe that it affects their quality of life," said Dr Shah. Rahul Sharma, a software engineer, is a glaring instance. Sharma said that within two years of beginning his career in the IT sector, he suffered from severe back pain. "I underwent spine surgery at the age of 26," says Sharma. Sarthak Mehta, 28, an IT professional, underwent spine surgery six months ago. "I had no idea how the constant sitting was ruining my spine. Even after undergoing surgery, I still have pain," said Mehta. Mitali Shah, a 27-year old professional working in a pharmacy laboratory, is battling severe neck pain because of long hours of research at a microscope which requires her to keep her neck bent at a certain angle. "Despite my complaints, the HR department did not look into the ergonomics and even refused to grant me leave," complains Mitali. Google Released Chrome 9 Google today released a newer version of their web browser Chrome taking it to version 9.0.597.84. In this new version, Google is adding support for WebGL, Chrome Instant and Chrome Web Store. With WebGL, you can have hardware accelerated 3D graphics inside your web browser without the need for any plugins. You can try out some demos to see what you can achieve with this new feature. With Chrome Instant, websites start loading as soon as you start typing the URL in the address bar. Think of it as Google Instant, but instead of search results the browser is actually loading websites as you type. Depending upon the search engine you have selected in Chrome, you will see search results as you type as well. The Chrome Web Store, which was limited only to the beta release so far, is now available to all the users. A shortcut to the store can be found on the new tab page and the browser will also come with two sample apps, which will automatically uninstall themselves if unused. Of course, as with every new update, this one also adds a slight bump in browsing speed as well as bug fixes. 24.9 MB Multiplatform Homepage Freeware Courtesy : Techtree
