  8. DoT collects Rs 93 cr penalty from new operators: Sibal 6 Jan l The Economic Times l New Delhi The government has collected Rs 93 crore penalty from new telecom operators for missing the network roll-out deadline, even as some operators have approached the appellate tribunal TDSAT seeking a stay on it. "We have received Rs 93 crore from new operators. The total demand is Rs 219 crore," Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal told reporters here. Uninor, a joint venture between Unitech and Norway's Telenor , has paid the penalty but under protest and has approached TDSAT seeking stay on such drive by the Department of Telecom saying the delay was from the government side. The TDSAT has reserved the order on Uninor's petition. On the issue of forming Joint Parliamentary Committee, as demanded by the Opposition, Sibal said "it (the demand for JPC) was absurd. The government has given several alternatives to the Opposition but they never moved even an inch." He, however, exuded confidence that Budget would be presented by the Government without any hassle. "We will bring out the truth before the people about the entire telecom issue since 2001," he said. Earlier, Sibal had quantified revenue loss of Rs 1.43 lakh crore to the exchequer in 2001 due to change in policy by the then NDA regime by switching over to revenue share regime from fixed licence fee scenario. Asked which are the operators who have paid penalty, the Minister said Etisalat DB, Loop Telecom, Uninor, Sistema-Shyam and Aircel are among the service providers who have paid the liquidated damages (penalty).

Motorola Officially Unveils the Xoom Tablet Following multiple teases like Google’s Andy Rubin showing up with it, an aggressive teaser ad and much more, Motorola have finally unveiled their Android Honeycomb tablet, the Xoom. The Xoom was the first tablet to be showcased running Google’s tablet-optimized Operating System, Android 3.0 Honeycomb. It’s powered by a 1GHz nVidia Tegra 2 dual-core processor, which will ensure it’s a lot faster than most of the tablets out in the market right now. It also features a 10.1-inch touchscreen at a resolution of 1280x800, 1GB of DDR2 RAM, a 2 megapixel front-facing camera and a 5 megapixel rear-facing one that supports 720p video recording, 1080p FullHD video playback, an HDMI slot, Adobe Flash Player, 32GB of internal storage that can be upgraded via an SD card slot and much more. The device even boasts of an inbuilt gyroscope, accelerometer, barometer, e-compass and adaptive lighting for various apps. Oh and did we mention it will have access to the 3D version of Google Maps, Google e-Books and the Android Market? All of this promises to make the Motorola Xoom one of the most powerful and feature-packed tablets yet. Motorola haven’t announced the pricing yet, but it’s likely to be high considering all those awesome features. Regardless, it’s expected to be out as a 3G/Wi-Fi device by the end of March, with a 4G (LTE) version out in the second quarter of the year. This means the Xoom will be the world’s first device to ship with Android 3.0 Honeycomb, because ASUS’ tablets aren’t expected to be out until May. We absolutely cannot wait. Hope March comes around soon. Courtesy : Tech2

  22. As per the Trai notifications, the Sms packs which offers more then 100 sms per day will not be available for renewal. Also got the news, that MTS will be the first operator to follow this by withdrawing its 500 sms per day pack and reducing 150 sms per day to 100 sms per day for its Rs.16/- sms pack. Soon, all other operators will also follow the suite by offering 100 sms per day packs or 3000 sms per month pack.
  23. King Brother.....ya they will now make a cartel and loot subscribers as no operator has 3g license in all the circles. By the way, Docomo is already in talks with MTNL for Mumbai and Delhi 3g services.
