  4. PCOs to get a new lease of life with 3G: Ericsson NEW DELHI: Third generation (3G) services can give Public Calling Offices (PCOs) a facelift with its owners offering features like video calling at cheap rates to its customers, telecom equipment maker Ericsson today said. The Swedish firm has started a pilot project to demonstrate that PCO owners could use 3G services to offer video calling to its customers, who are often daily wage labourers who do not own a mobile phone. "We noticed that people using PCOs are often migrants from smaller towns. They work on daily wages and depend on public booths to make calls since they can't afford mobile phones ," Ericsson India Vice-President (Communications, Corporate Affairs and Business Development) P Balaji told PTI. Through video calls, they not only get to talk but also see each other, which is a real value proposition, he added. The pilot was conducted using eight PCOs equipped with 3G video phones spread in both urban and rural areas, focussing on a specific migrant corridor. Asked if the company was in discussion with other operators, Balaji said the company's focus remains on setting up infrastructure. "We are discussing the pilot with various players telling them how such services at PCOs can act as a new stream of revenue generation. If any operator needs help, we would cooperate," he said. According to data collected by the company, the number of PCOs in the country had reduced to 5.5 million (December 2009) from 6.1 million (March 2009). The largest player in the segment is BSNL, which has about 1.92 million PCOs, followed by Reliance (1.8 million), Tata (1.5 million) and Bharti (0.10 million) and others. "With increasing penetration of mobile phones, PCOs as a business is losing steam. But there is still a huge population which depends on PCOs and if video calling can be provided at cheap rates using 3G technology , it will be a new lease of life for them," Balaji said. State-run operators BSNL and MTNL , along with private player Tata Docomo are offering 3G services in the country. Other operators like Bharti Airtel , Vodafone and Idea Cellular plan to start their services next year. Courtesy : The Economic Times

  7. I-T dept expects to collect Rs 2500-cr in Vodafone case MUMBAI: Mumbai Income Tax authorities expect to collect Rs 2,500 crore on accounts of the ongoing Vodafone case . The collection would help the department achieve its tax collection target for this fiscal, a department press release said here today. Mumbai zone has been given a target of over Rs 1,50,000 crore for FY 11. "The department expects to be able to collect Rs 2500 crore in Vodafone case. The collection would help the department achieve is target of Rs 1,50,480 crore for this fiscal," the release said. British Telecom giant Vodafone, which is contesting the Rs 11,000 tax demand from the income tax department, had been directed by the Supreme Court to deposit Rs 2,500 crore along with a bank guarantee of Rs 8,500 crore before it. The apex court would start its final hearing in this matter from February 5, 2011. The department also said that the advance tax collection in Mumbai was growing at 18 per cent. 8. DoT to issue notice to errant tele firms from tomorrow NEW DELHI: It’s payback time. The department of telecom (DoT) will issue on Monday its first set of show cause notices to companies that were ineligible to receive 2G licences /spectrum in 2008, as well as to those that failed to meet their basic rollout obligations. According to DoT secretary R Chandrashekhar, legal opinion from the law ministry is in place, which is the precursor to the issuance of show cause notices to these firms. ‘‘ DoT’s actions will impact roughly 200 licences. We will issue the first few notices on Monday, but the process could run into several days,’’ Chandrashekhar told ToI. The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) had identified 85 of 122 licences issued in 2008 as ineligible because these companies had misrepresented facts. In addition, TRAI had written to DoT on November 18 this year, asking it to cancel 38 licences and legally examine another 31 for failure to meet rollout obligations. In both cases, DoT, as licenser, should have been the one to identify these irregularities, which it failed to. The department now faces investigations from several quarters to uncover the violations in procedures that led to the loss of Rs 1.76 lakh crore to the public purse. Even if 100 companies qualify for licence cancellations, it would mean 440 MHz of spectrum will return to the government , ending the prevailing spectrum scarcity mindset. The companies impacted by this include Unitech (Uninor), Loop Telecom , Datacom, S Tel , Swan Telecom (Etisalat) and Sistema Shyam (MTS). It’s likely that these companies will resort to litigation to protect their interests. Much of this will be open to interpretation . The TRAI Act provides for dispute resolution between the licenser (DoT) and the licensee (defaulting companies ) under Section 14. The first point of appeal will be TDSAT from where a right to a statutory appeal lies with the Supreme Court. It may be difficult for SC to club these matters since it would seem that the details of each specific case would be different . It will also require DoT to effectively reinforce its legal team including law officers since Sanchar Bhavan simply isn’t ready for this quantum of litigation. The only way out of such widespread litigation will be a huge settlement package, which will minimally have to be accompanied by recovery of thousands of crores of lost exchequer revenue. Without that, any proposal for settlement will be rejected outright by courts, and seen as a sellout by Parliament, especially the Opposition parties , which are refusing to budge from their demand for a JPC, which may well continue into the Budget session. It seems the uncertainties in India’s telecom investment environment will worsen before they get better. Courtesy : The Economic Times
  9. Thanks for the great tips my dear Karthik. +1 No doubt the exercises shown above can definetely help in Spondylisis. My unhealthy Seating posture is the culprit in my case. I already started to have precautions while sitting for long hours. Saavdhaani mein he Samajhdaari hai.
  10. Thanks a ton my dear Rajan for the detailed explanation. +1 Yes, it is 100% correct, that for immediate relief Allopathy is best but for the long lasting effects nothing can beat Ayurveda. Simple excercise could do wonder. Tomorrow I will consult the physiotherapist and will do the excercise as he recommends. I eat Garlic on regular basis and consume Lemon Juice with Honey every morning. In all, I love natural treatments instead of Allopathy. But its a starting stage of Spondylitis, so I don't want to take any chance and initially will continue Allopathy alongwith the home remedies. Climate too now a days is cold here. Agar bhagwan ne chaaha toh jald he sab theek ho jaega. I have to visit Jaipur and Delhi in the coming week. Pataa nahi jaa paunga bhi ya nahi is dard ke chakkar mein. Lets hope for the best. And all my dear friends, please take care of your health. Otherwise you could also be the NEXT VICTIM of different problems like INSOMNIA, SPONDYLISIS, etc. I already learnt the lesson. Now I will take care of myself and my body the most.
  11. Thanks for the reply dear Vinay Bhai. The Popping sound really scared me. Abhi toh bhaiya poori zindagi padee hai, aur ye neck mein se band baaja bajne laga hai. Tomorrow I will consult the Physiotherapist / Ortho. Lets see what he recommends. You mean even walking fast can be bad for my neck joints ?

  13. Wah Genius babu wah....aap toh chhaa gaye guru. Apka post toh mai zaroor expect kar raha tha. The link you given of "Running and Living" is really great. Thanks ! Upto last year, I used to walk nearly 4 kilometers daily in the evening while having a glance at sweet chicks. But now a days I hardly walk. All my time goes sitting in front of computer due to my work. I can't avoid my work, so have to sit compulsarily for long hours, may be 12 hours a day and even on Sundays also. Beech beech mein kabhi kabhi PRANAYAAM kar leta tha. Ab woh bhi nahi kar pa raha hoon. But as you said we have one body and have to maintain it for lifetime. Agar shareer ne he sath na diya toh zindagi mein aur kuch nahi kar payengey hum. Apart from the overweight issue from some time, now I'm facing another health related problem from the last one week. Having Spondylitis Pain in my Neck Joint. Last Sunday subah utha toh jabardast pain ho rahi thi. My Doctor prescribed Miofree-A Tablets (Thiocolchicoside & Aceclofenac Tablets) for 5 days. I'm applying Dynapar Gel also. Abhi thoda better hai. But only 50% relief as of now. Subah uth te he pain rehta hai. Spondylitis is now my major concern dear Vinay Bhau. Any tips for Spondylitis ? Specially if you can recommend some home remedies etc. then it will be much better. I have to control this right now because its the starting phase. Now I scare from running because whenever I run or step up or down, I feel a POPPING SOUND in my neck. This sound can be heard even when I walk fast. What could be the reason for this my dear Vinay Brother ? Bones ke beech mein GAP kamm ho gaya hai ya anything else ?? So, if I run.....wouldn't it be more dangerous for my spine / neck joints ??? Kahin aapas mein he ragad ragad ke aur gap kamm ho gaya toh mera toh band he baj jayega. If you say Running will not affect on my spondylitis problem then I will start running atleast 3 kilometers from tomorrow onwards. Vinay Bhau, you could be the best consultant for me. Kuch spondylitis per advise karo yaar. I'm really scared now. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- And Vinay Bhau, its good to hear that you got the Display changed of your LCD free of cost from the service centre. Thanks a lot for your motivational comments and +1 for the same.

Good One dear Kumaar Brother. +1
  22. Day before yesterday I too received the mail from Docomo.....stating "Tata Docomo 3G now available in your city". God knows, which city they are referring to. As they don't have any plans to start 3G in Mumbai because they don't have 3G spectrum here. But then why they mailed me ? Iska jawaab dena hoga. Barobar dena hoga.....DOCOMO !
  23. Thanks for the link and +1 for the pdf guide my dear Rajan Brother. Ab toh chahe Mumbai mein MNP implement ho ya na ho......mai toh apni life mein HEALTHY COMPUTING zaroor IMPLEMENT karunga. Aur yeh maamla kya hai bhai log ???? Jab bhi mai yeh thread thande bastey mein se bahar nikalta hoon toh HEALTH ko chhod ke DOWNLOADING KAYE KO discuss karne lagte ho ji ??? Hain ??? Apun ki sehat ka kisi ko b khayaal nahi hai. Sab bus DOWNLOAD MANAGERS ke raag aalaap rahe hain. Bhagwaan kare aap sab ke DOWNLOAD MANAGERS ko DIL KA DAURA pad jaye. Yahaan mera LOAD (weight) badhne ke kaaran meri sehat DOWN hoti ja rahi hai. Jiska mai khud he khayaal nahi rakh pa rahaa hoon. Yahan wahaan dhoondh raha hoon, koi mil jaye jiske upar mai apne thode se LOAD ko DOWN kar du. Lekin koi mil nahi raha, bali ka bakra. Iss dukhiyare ka khayal sirf Rajan Bhai ko aya....aur kisi ko nahi....Rajan Bhai, tussi great ho. Baaki sab ko toh mai dekh lunga. Lagey raho.....download karne mein poori raat.
  24. Telcos reject Trai proposal to make tariffs more transparent NEW DELHI: Mobile phone companies have rejected a proposal of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) to frame new guidelines to make cellphone tariffs more transparent. They have asked the regulator not to intervene on tariff, saying this should be left to market forces, and have also opposed the proposal to have at least one standard tariff plan across all operators. Service providers also said that the regulator should not intervene in fixing a cap for premium SMSs. In October, Trai had called for increased transparency in tariffs and said it plans to intervene to help customers make informed choices about their mobile plans. The regulator had also said it was examining a plan to impose a cap on the upper tariff limit for premium SMSs (text messages) to ensure that operators, broadcasters and other players do not fleece customers for this facility. “We are of the view that no further regulations or measures are required to enhance transparency,” the Cellular Operators Association of India, the lobby representing GSM operators, said in its communication to Trai. The Association of Unified Telecom Service Providers of India, representing CDMA players and dual technology operators, said: “The policy of tariff forbearance has worked well for the telecom market in India. It is suggested that regulated tariff should be resorted to neither in case of value-added services or any other product category and no limit should be imposed on any premium rate SMS services.” Currently, a mobile phone company can offer up to 25 different tariff plans in a circle and Trai had said it was contemplating a reduction in the upper limit, a move that the industry has opposed. Trai’s reasoning is that that too many tariff plans confuse customers and make it difficult for them to make an informed choice. Trai has pointed out that despite the availability of a large number of tariff plans, “the life plans, which are simple and easy to understand, continue to attract the largest number of subscribers” . Some operators, however, want this number to be revised upwards, as new tariff plans are slated to be launched with the introduction of 3G services. “There is no reason to believe that the increased complexity by way of more number of plans (choice) available in the market has any which way harmed subscribers’ interest. Rather. it has proved the opposite by reducing the average revenue per user (ARPU) consistently,” Bharti Airtel said. All operators have unanimously demanded that they be allowed to revise tariffs for ‘lifetime prepaid customers’ . “Price escalation is a fact of life and a normal incident arising out of a gap of time in this inflationary age. The price freeze on all tariff items for lifetime customers without providing a corresponding guarantee that there shall be no increase in the inputs costs is unfair,” Reliance Communications said. It also pointed out that whenever prices of utilities like gas, water, and electricity are increased, it is effective for all consumers irrespective of when a subscriber started using the facility. Similarly, in the case of an increase in tariff for railways, too, the rates were effective from a fixed date. “The statutory protection against price hike for telecom users is an only exception to this practice,” RCOM said. The industry’s views are in contrast to those expressed by many consumer groups, which have been seeking active intervention by Trai. “In the case of the pre-paid category, a majority of customers are very low or medium users. It is, therefore, preferred to have one plan for each service area. It is mentioned that two of the largest operators — Reliance and Tata — have one plan only. This model may be adopted for all service providers,” Telecom Users Group of India, a consumer body, said. The Consumer Guidance Society has asked Trai to be more proactive. “Awareness and sensitisation of telecom subscribers should be given top priority by adopting a multi .pronged approach by giving a special thrust on rural and semi-literate subscribers as they are the worst affected owing to thrusting of unwanted services and tariff plans by the service providers by adopting unfair trade practices ,” it said. VOICE, another consumer organisation has sought that “strict financial compensation” should be granted to customers if redressal was not given within a specified period. “Trai should facilitate tariff comparison tool/software on its website wherein all applicable tariff plans are registered to ensure complete transparency. Attention is drawn to the development of software in the year 2004 by Trai using TERI in which such comparison was possible. What is the status of that software and why is Trai not putting the up software on its website is still a big question,” the agency said. Customer Care In October, Trai called for more transparency in tariffs and said it plans to intervene to help customers Currently, a telco can offer up to 25 different tariff plans in a circle. Trai had said it was planning to reduce the upper limit But COAI has said no further regulations or measures are required to enhance transparency in tariffs Courtesy : The Economic Times
