My dear Abhishek, their are many issues with Reliance Network in Mumbai now a days. No matter, whichever Data Card you buy, but just keep in mind that IDEA Netsetter is already 3G enabled, means their's no need to upgrade the hardware when 3G is allowed. And Reliance Data Cards don't have EVDO even. Thats the basic difference. I'm using IDEA Data Card without any hassles.

EXCLUSIVE: iPhone 3G Out in India Next Month! Here we have it folks, an exclusive on the iPhone's availability in India. When, how much, what features, software -- everything you ever wanted to know about the iPhone 3G in India! We know you want to get to the meat of the matter, so without further ado, here's what you need to know: • iPhone 3G Availability: Vodafone to have a 15 day launch advantage (available August '08 through Vodafone, and late Aug/September '08 through Airtel) • Model: Initially, the 8GB version only • Price: Rs. 11,500 to Rs. 12,000 (note: U.S. price of the 8GB iPhone 3G is $199) • Applications: App Store will be available • App prices: Application prices may see a revision to suit Indian market • 3G: No fixed date for 3G availability; expected sometime later this year • GPS: Present on the Indian version as well • Grey-market availability: Almost nowhere to be seen. One store expects to sell it next week at Rs. 50,000 While we all await the release of the iPhone 3G in India, some questions are pressing. In many ways, the iPhone is a platform - a means and a tool to unlock far greater features through new and sundry software. Until recently, the only means of installing software not produced by Apple was through illegal avenues. Now though, with the launch of the App Store, Apple has brought third-party software under a legal umbrella. Thus, the first question is this: will we, in India, get access to the same App Store that the people in the U.S. and other western countries enjoy? Further, would pricing be in Rupees or would we need to pay in Dollars? What about 3G - a feature so central to the iPhone that it's part of its name, its identity - will the iPhone be released along with 3G coverage? To put it simply, will the iPhone offer the same value proposition in India, as it does abroad? We try and answer some of these burning questions here in this TechTree exclusive. We contacted the necessary parties at Apple, Vodafone and Airtel - the latter being iPhone's official carriers in India - to get the required answers. While Apple and Vodafone were tight-lipped about release details, we struck gold with Airtel. Our source at Airtel, who wishes to remain anonymous, gave us valuable insight. Most of it, good news. According to our source, the iPhone 3G will bring along most of the software goodies that are available in the West. In fact, the source went on to add, some of the features will be customized to suit the Indian tariff. The source confirmed that we would also be able to purchase software from the App Store with a possibly of a revised price for the Indian consumer, quickly adding that the price revision is not set in stone. Let's move on to the meat of the matter - when will the iPhone be available in India? When I last spoke to our source from Airtel, I was told that the iPhone 3G launch was scheduled for the 25th of August, with the caveat that the date may be pushed to early September for supply reasons. Apparently, the number of pre-orders for the iPhone have exceeded the initial product allotment by Apple. Interestingly, our source from Airtel confirmed that Vodafone will be the first to introduce the iPhone 3G in India, with a 15-day launch advantage over Airtel, thanks to Vodafone's global tie-ups. If we are to believe Airtel, Vodafone should introduce the iPhone 3G by end of August at least. That's only a month from now! So does this mean Vodafone will get to gorge on the subscription of maximum number of iPhone-hungry Indians due to the company's first-in-line advantage? Is the iPhone 3G is likely to become a "Vodafone product"? One would obviously like to think so, but Airtel differs on this aspect. Our source assertively stated that Vodafone hasn't been able to create the kind of impact on the prospective iPhone buyers as Airtel has with its aggressive marketing. The latter added, "We will make sure we don t downplay them (Vodafone), but we will create an impact of our own." There has been a lot of speculation over the price of the iPhone. Initially, only the 8 GB version of the iPhone 3G will be officially launched in India. The handset is expected to cost between Rs. 11,500 and Rs. 12,000, says our source. Compare this to the $199 price tag of the 8GB version in the U.S, and it's obvious that India is once again going to feel the import-duty pinch. Moreover, this price does not include the data plan costs that a user will have to bear every month, the details of which will only be out by the 15th of August, our source indicated. There are still deliberations being made on the specifics of the plan, we were told. If you want the iPhone 3G right away, you need to look to the grey market. The scene there isn't all rosy though, with rumors flying of Airtel and Vodafone clamping down on parallel imports. The market-reality seemed to lend credence to these rumors as most vendors we contacted told us that the iPhone (old model or new) was unavailable for purchase. One Mr. Munshi Adnan, owner of a shop called "Gadgets" at Heera Panna, in Mumbai, promises to offer the iPhone 3G next week. He claimed to have it around July 28th, and quoted a princely sum of Rs. 40,000 to Rs. 50,000! While all of the above is largely good news, the bad news comes in the garb of the key feature: 3G. Nobody seemed willing to place a date on 3G availability in India, the arrival of which is still a rather nebulous 'sometime late this year'. We have a bad feeling about this. Our source did confirm though that GPS (a feature through which the iPhone 3G can track your location) would be a present in the Indian avatar of the Apple iPhone 3G. So there you have it! Mostly good news for those of us who have waited for the release date of this product. Courtesy : Techtree

Pink iPhone Rumours Afloat The Ebay seller proudly proclaims this to be an original Apple job and says this is the only pink iPhone available in the market A recent image of pink iPhone spotted on Ebay has set the rumour mills rolling about the possible launch of a pink iPhone - especially with Macworld just around the corner. The iPhone, which was until now only available in silver, black and white, might now be available in pink too. However, Mac fans do not agree that Apple would ever release a pink iPhone and have already pointed fingers at Asian OEMs for this paint job. The Ebay seller proudly proclaims this to be an original Apple job and adds, "This could be perhaps be the only pink iPhone available in the market" This one might turn out to be a great Valentine's Day gift, what say? We leave it for you to decide. Courtesy : Techtree -

S60 Messaging Bug Discovered Reports are in of a potential 'messaging virus' that could possibly be a major issue for Nokia Series 60 devices. This phenomenon being called The "Curse of Silence," essentially prevents the mobile handsets running versions 2.6, 2.8, 3.0 or 3.1 to stop receiving SMS, MMS and email messages. According to the same reports this is how the bug works – an SMS that contains up to 32 characters minimum will be received. It will have a space at the end and would be an email address. The protocol identifier will be changed to internet electronic mail before it’s sent. It’s recommended that you regularly sync and back up your data as the only way to unlock the device after receiving The "Curse of Silence," is to hard reset it. For those of you who don’t know how simply type *#7370# from the keypad. Another way to do it is by keeping the green Call key + * + 3 pressed simultaneously till the handset restarts. Testing has shown that after receiving about 11 messages of this nature handsets that run on versions 2.8 and 3.1 will lock up but still have limited receiving capabilities. Mobiles with visions 2.6 and 3.0 will stop sending after one message. Courtesy : Tech2

Nokia India announces ‘Take Back’ Indiatimes Infotech l 31 Dec l New Delhi Nokia India has said that it will launch its 'take-back' campaign from January 1. The take-back campaign is aimed at educating mobile phone users on the importance of recycling e-waste and will be rolled out in phases across the country. As a part of this initiative, Nokia encourage mobile phone users to dispose their used handsets and accessories such as charges and handsets, regardless of the brand, at any of the recycling bins set up across Nokia Priority Dealers and Nokia Care Centers. A Nokia survey across 13 countries has showed that only a mere 17 per cent of the cellular users in India were aware that the handset could be recycled. The awareness quotient was the lowest in India. "The company will be planting a tree for every handset dropped into these recycling bins and giving out a surprise gift as well," Nokia said in a statement. The highlight of the survey was that despite the fact that people on an average each owned around five phones; very few of these were being recycled once they are no longer used. Only 3 per cent said they had recycled their old phone. Instead the majority, 44 per cent, are simply being kept at homes and never used. Others are giving their mobiles another life in different ways, passing on their old phones to friends or family or by selling their used devices. Globally, half of those surveyed didn't know phones could be recycled like this, with awareness lowest in India at 17 per cent and Indonesia at 29 per cent, and highest in the UK at 80 per cent and 66 per cent in Finland and Sweden. "The take-back campaign aims to increase awareness of the concept of recycling. If people no longer need their mobile devices, they can bring it back to Nokia for recycling and it can put it to good use - 100 percent of the materials in the phones can be recovered and used to make new products or generate energy," the company statement added. According to Nokia India's VP and managing director D Shivakumar, the campaign offered the company an unique opportunity to make an impact that goes beyond its own business. "Our vision is a world where everyone being connected can contribute to sustainable development. As responsible leaders, we want to drive best practices in our industry. Achieving environmental leadership means minimising our own environmental footprint and encouraging recycling is a step in this direction," he added.

Will LG's Cookie Crumble? The major plus point of Cookie, the newbie in the touchscreen market, is its price, which is around half that of iPhone. We all have seen the teaser ad for the new LG Cookie where the girl uses her fingers to operate the phone. The Cookie is the newest phone to jump onto the touchscreen phone bandwagon, where your fingers now replace the stylus; it will shortly be launched in India. The UI of the Cookie is designed to be completely finger-friendly with clickable on-screen buttons and icons on the home screen, which can be moved around with the swipe of a finger. We have also been seeing touchscreen phones from Nokia, such as the eagerly awaited 5800 XpressMusic and the N97, which also focus on finger-based navigation. So where did this sudden trend in finger-based touchscreen navigation in phones come from? Who exactly is responsible for bringing about this welcome change? Well, the Apple iPhone, of course. The Apple iPhone has changed things in the touchscreen phone arena. In fact, the touchscreen phone period can be split into the 'Before iPhone' and the 'After iPhone' eras. Earlier, we used to have small resistive touchscreens with a 4:3 aspect ratio, which were operated with the stylus provided because the on-screen buttons were too small for anything larger than a stylus tip. Now, we see large 3.0-inch+ widescreen displays with high resolution meant specifically for operation with your fingers. Now, post-iPhone, everyone has realized that the human finger is the easiest means of operating a touchscreen interface (you don't have to worry about losing your navigational tool, as was the problem with the stylus). The interface designs are much more user-friendly, with slick animation added for good measure. The iPhone has served as a wake-up call to manufacturers and taught them how a touchscreen phone ought to be. So, now, suddenly, we have a slew of touchscreen phones imitating the Apple iPhone, the so-called 'iPhone Killers', and we are not just talking about Chinese companies (there is no shortage of them as well). We are talking about major mobile phone manufacturers, the likes of Nokia, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, LG, and HTC. All of them have entered the touchscreen phone fray with at least one model in their product portfolio fighting head-on against the Apple baby. Each one promises more than what the iPhone offers, and that too at a lower price! But then, why haven't they succeeded? Why is Apple's iPhone still going strong? Why is it out-selling longtime players such as the Blackberry and the Windows Mobile phones in the US, going on to become the number one phone selling in the US? What is it about the iPhone that has charmed millions, and why are the iPhone wannabes not getting the same love and affection from the public? Well, the reason is simple. They are not better than the iPhone, not in every aspect at least, no matter what their manufacturers might tell you. Whether you pick the Samsung Omnia, the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1, or the HTC Touch Diamond, they are still not as good as the iPhone. They all offer what the iPhone lacks. They have higher resolution displays, they have higher resolution cameras, they offer better battery life; in fact, they offer everything that the iPhone fails to, but they all lack what the iPhone has. It's surprising how none of the major manufacturers haven't got this into their heads so far; the iPhone was never just about the display or the camera. It's about the finger-friendly capacitive touchscreen where you don't have to use force, but just have to glide your finger on the screen for the phone to recognize your input, which is just not possible on the resistive displays of other touchscreen phones. It's about realizing the importance of the 'User' in the User Interface and designing it so well that it would go on to set a benchmark. The iPhone's interface is not just about the fancy animation that other manufacturers have mistakenly assumed to be an important feature (wasting no time in adding it to their phones), but about how incredibly easy it is to use, so much so that even the most technologically challenged person could adapt to it in seconds. It's about the design, where it was not just about having a large touchscreen, but doing away with physical buttons as they waste precious space. It's about the whole iTunes eco-system where you can manage everything related to your iPhone from one place, adding music to it, updating the firmware, converting videos, or syncing with your Contacts. It's about the App Store where you don't just allow your users to install 3rd party applications onto their phone, but also give them a one-stop store to shop for the applications instead of hunting around at different places for them, unlike other operating systems. Apple's App Store, where the applications are checked beforehand to completely remove your chances of having malicious content enter your iPhone and which lets you rest assured knowing that there are people out there who do the dirty work of sorting and rating the softwares and games for you, is a major brownie point in iPhone's favor. But, most importantly, the iPhone is about the out-of-the-box thinking that Apple is renowned for. They don't follow popular trends, they make them. Apple could have just launched any other standard phone and made money out of it, but they chose to be different from the crowd, and made the iPhone. The 'iPhone Killers' have a lot of features that the iPhone lacks, but none of them have what the iPhone has, or the inexplicable something that made it what it is today. The iPhone might not do a lot of things the 'iPhone Killers' do, but whatever it does, it does it better than any phone out there. In fact, you can't even call these phones 'iPhone Killers'. The true 'iPhone Killer' would be a phone that would combine the qualities of the iPhone with the features that it lacks. The new LG Cookie is another shot to topple the touchscreen Goliath. Whether it will succeed is something only time (and our full review) will tell. Right now, the major trump card that the Cookie has is its mouth-watering price, around half of what the iPhone costs. We'll wait and see whether this Cookie will be a hit or will just crumble like the many others before it. Courtesy : Techtree
