OK. No problem. Please send the log via email.

So, you are able to get GSM working and your issue is that 3G does not work. This problem is quite different from the one that we are currently trying to fix. Don't you have another device where GSM itself does not work, or perhaps data works and voice does not?

^Reliance CDMA

Also include 1. your model if normal or employee edition 2. your GSM serivce provider. 3. Whether you are using a cut nano SIM or a proper nano SIM. 4. If data is working or not 5. If you have tried more than one SIM

Can those with issues about GSM, please PM me the device details? I am working with someone in Motorola to resolve this. Harsha has already provided me the logs from his Droid.

Update: Got a new Reliance SIM activated on another phone and put that in the Droid Maxx. The voice part works fine, but there is no data.

A member on another forum indicated that there was a similar problem with Razr M, which was unlocked by a person in Gaffar Market, in Delhi. If there is someone in Delhi facing this problem, then I can put you in touch with this member. You can then directly deal with them. Of course, this service will surely cost something. My device is in Pune, so it does not make sense to send it to Delhi for this, when we are not sure if the method will work for this latest Droid series.

GSM Radio Finally Unlocked For Motorola Droid Razr, Droid 4, Razr Maxx
vakharia replied to nikme's topic in Motorola
I have Radio Comm setup and trying to figure out some way to unlock the GSM on Droid Maxx (XT 1080M). The post on XDA about changing the NV bit from 01 to 00 does not work. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2166542 However, if someone can tell me how to get the NV dump, then I would surely like to do that and study. Also, if there is some logging debugging tool that can be used, to figure out what is happening, then please share information.- 44 replies

Are you referring to Harsha? Or someone else? Another member with a similar problem on his Droid Ultra has confirmed that CDMA is working on this unit. Would be getting a CDMA OMH MicroSIM by this weekend. Will test and update.

Has it been activated by Reliance? Well the *228 does not work from Droid Maxx. The phone throws up the error that I mentioned earlier. So, although I got a call from the store on my other number that the Reliance CDMA number is activated, I could not proceed. The SIM was from the latest series. Today I went to the same store and asked them to put the SIM in their handset and tried. *228 did not work from there as well. So, they called someone to fix that. It seems something is stuck in the system and can take upto 48 hours to resolve. Also, these activation related issues are common it seems. There was also the point that since this SIM was not properly cut, it could be a SIM issue as well, but I have doubts about that. So, right now, I have left the SIM with the store and asked them to complete the process on my behalf.

I put in a cut Reliance OMH SIM into my Droid Maxx. I tried to dial out to *228 since the SIM is new and not activated. The phone throws out an error after that: sorry this sim card not recognized registered The signal is there and it shows both 1x and 3g. It also shows the signal belongs to Reliance. It does not matter if I change from global to LTE/CDMA mode. I still get the same network and the same message. Is this something wrong with the SIM (this time the SIM was not cut perfectly)?

I am taking this up with Verizon and Motorola. I have already opened a case with Motorola. They keep saying that there is nothing to unlock and that the IMEI's are not on any negative list, so things should work fine. I would request all those who are facing issues to send me the IMEI over PM so that I can build a case around this. So far I know Harsha's phone is not working and KanagaDeepan's phone is also not working. This happens only in case of brand new device. If you are buying a used phone, then perhaps you will not run into this issue.
-
If you have the means to change the IMEI of the non-working phone to be the same as the working phone (and then switch off the working phone), then you may try that. You might be surprised to see the local carrier allowing you to come on the network. Do you want to try that?
-
So, one source tells me that the IMEI has to be cleared by Verizon. The Indian carriers detect the IMEI and disable the service since it has not been cleared by Verizon for international use. Now, I am not sure how true this is, but it does sound logical. XDA member Harsha was able to use Droid Mini with Reliance GSM for a few minutes - made and received calls and data worked as well, and then suddenly -> invalid SIM. How did that happen?
-
Same problem here with Idea and Vodafone. Verizon global support says the phone is SIM locked. I have to activate on Verizon network first. Then when they get the IMEI in their system, then they can enable it for global use.

I am planning to use Droid Maxx for CDMA (for my dad). What was the difference between the old and the new SIM for data to work?

I am creating this thread to understand what are the different methods by which various sellers on forums such as these are sourcing mobile handsets and then selling them in India. Most of the handsets are imported (mainly from US). 1. Either they are carried by someone in which case there is limitation on the quantity that they can get into the country. OR 2. They are imported by paying duty through forwarders like shopandship.com or hopshopgo.com or others. OR 3. They are somehow smuggled into the country by someone else and perhaps then purchased by the sellers OR 4. Some other channel not known to me. Also, what are the risks in buying such phones, even from those who are selling them here for a long time? Note: I don't want the discussion to be targeted at a certain seller on this or any other forum. Fair and objective discussion is my only motto.

I do not know what my '2 posts' have got to do with this topic, but I will still continue. Another thread on this very forum and numerous other forums have indicated that used mobile phones cannot be imported into India. I am not sure if this is some kind of anti-dumping policy or some national security matter. http://www.rimweb.in/forums/topic/28650-customs-duty-for-shipping-used-motorola-droid-x-from-us/ I am not sure how accurate that is, since I could not find any reference about this on http://www.cbec.gov.in , but perhaps someone else here is more knowledgeable about the legality of such things. If you believe this is indeed smuggling, then it somehow confirms that indeed importing used phones is breaking some law or regulation (though I am still not sure which one exactly). INTENSION of this post There could always be two sides of a coin. An end user could be subject to some laws/ regulations, but an authorized importer could have more liberty, perhaps? I just learnt that you cannot import items valued more than Rs. 2000 without having an import license if you want to get it through the postal service (EMS?), but you can get the same item without having any import license if you get it through a courier service. No wonder the courier guys are a happy lot. My intention was to find out if there are such clauses even with the import of used phones. As the user importing Droid X was worried about importing the phone, many others would be worried about importing a used phone (or perhaps being overcharged by customs or lost parcel). So, someone else is taking the risk (both financial and/ or legal) and importing and then selling. I will leave this discussion here, since I got a fair understanding. But others may continue if they wish.

Thank you for your inputs. Please keep them coming. I do appreciate the fact that everyone gets more choices/ models of phones that before due to these imports. I do not think the objective of this discussion is to learn trade secrets (if there are any). If that would be the case, then some sellers would be angry with me by now. But so far that has not been the case. I have a feeling from the inputs so far, that there is also an element of risk that the buyer is exposing him/her self, perhaps, when the seller does not tell him/ her if there are any complications with the phone. e.g. bad ESN phone sold to an unsuspecting buyer. The buyer then travels to US. Will be in trouble? I am not sure which other scenarios the potential buyer should be aware of. One reason for the low costs as I understand from the above, is that some of the phones may be refurbished or returned back (since US has got good return policies). All such handsets lose their value immediately and land up in other countries. Since the history is not known and sellers may just state that the phone has been used for "unknown" amount of time, I think the low price starts making more sense. Again, this is not about the forum or forum members, but how the importing and resale business works I guess. From the customs perspective, I think used items are not allowed to be imported. Isn't it so? So, that opens up again a set of questions as to how are they then imported.
-
In this case, the phones are blocked by US carriers and the contract is somewhat broken by the first buyer in US. I don't think the sellers here state that (though it does not have any technical implications to use the phones here, but what happens when someone takes that phone to US and puts in a SIM card there and gets caught? Is that possible?

Thanks for creating a new topic out of this. Hopefully the few limited users of this phone can share information with each other on this page. About the routers, it might be true that they may be old models, however, the technology used by them is pretty much the same as the new ones. When I configured the mobile with my Cisco Linksys router, I had no issues. But when we took this mobile to connect with an Edimax router, it started misbehaving. Ironically, all other devices (2 laptops, one iPad, one Motorola Defy and one Motorola Xoom tablet, and two more mobiles) all were working absolutely fine. After research for several hours and trying everything under the book, I came across a post where someone had the same problem and also provided a solution. The solution was to disable 802.11b,g and just switch to 802.11g on the router. I tried this and it solved the problem immediately. The mobile has been running fine ever since. Now, this is not an issue with the router, but with the mobile which does not seem to be happy with both b and g being available. Coming to the boot-loader, the best time to unlock it is with 9.16.x. The moment you are online you will get a 9.18.x update, even here in India. So, it was to warn the buyer of the mobile to do decline this update. Everytime you switch on the mobile, you will get the update message. I am not sure what I did to hide it, but now-a-days my father does not get the message anymore.
