  1. Imported CDMA Handsets - Is It Worth The Efforts?

No one can deny these points except perhaps one about handset prices. Some of CDMA handsets are very cheap. Prices are pricey now a days for CDMA premium handset and difference between GSM and CDMA counter part is not so much. But one fact is CDMA handsets has better specs than that of GSM. Also may be because of easy MEID registration processes and growth in China CDMA market, US prices have gone up. One advantage I see with CDMA is in data roaming. I am not sure how GSM charge for data while roaming. but in Reliance its not additionally charged.
  2. Motorola Photon 4G Tegra Dual Core World Phone

In usual days 12 hours is OK but when not in office or no access to charger - instead of productivity tool Android phones become liability.
  3. Motorola Photon 4G Tegra Dual Core World Phone

@pulsar Battery life of any android in general is poor. Very few exceptions, may be.
  4. @ gurugopal Absolutely, court are helpless and may be corrupt. But fact is they are absolutely dependant on facts presented to them, they can not make any decisions on known reality - if not presented legally to them. I have been facing legal system since last about 3 years due to our stupid and biased laws - which are pro women but anti solutions. Hence i know this very well. @ni0987 These are from school time stories, pata nahin Kahan milenge. :-(

  9. Buying a new car? Discuss here!

As per Motor Vehicle act, applying film even by car manufacturer is not legal. Glass has to be tinted from GLASS FACTORY - not by film. So as per above, SAFETY GLASS MANUFACTURER only can make tinted glass without pasting any film on it. Agreed but bad habits are easy to keep than good habits. Using 50% and 70% VLT as specified in law should be OK. Provided RTO and police can check it and enforce it properly. I personally not against SC ruling.
  10. Buying a new car? Discuss here!

@dkalie Thanks, I know SC. has banned any tinting, but living without it is almost impossible, so this time I decided to go for cheap 1.8k wala films. I can not imagine how difficult it would be without sun protection in our country. 50% and 70% films are fine for protection. Especially UV and IR protection. As per judgment one can not alter nature of glass and tinting can be provided only by manufacturer. But not by applying film.
  11. CNG Kits Suggestion

Lovato is a good kit, provided bought from reputed seller.
  12. Buying a new car? Discuss here!

Got delivery of Ertiga VDi, Silver color on Monday. There is very little discussed on Rimweb about ertiga so posting a bit. Size : Its reasonable 5 seaters. Certainly not comfortable 5 seater in long run. But for city it is pretty comfortable. and occasional 7 seater as well. Suspension : Feels like car. Stiffer than new age sedan. Fuel efficiency : in quick 200 kms estimates it seems to be giving 16-18 KMPL Engine : Adequate for city driving. Have not been to highway yet. Not for adrenaline lovers. Noise, Vibration and Harshness is surprisingly low. It is as good as VENTO. Air Conditioning : I find it inadequete in Ahmedabad's 45 Deg C heat. First I suspected that it is very poor but when I measured grill temperature, even at 43 Deg C it was about 9 Deg C, means AC is efficient, it is may not feeling effective may be because of large glass area and IT SEEMS MARUTI HAS NOT PROVIDED TINTED GLASS. SO AC is not effective. I will get glasses tinted (SO CALLED RTO APPROVED) and will check. Second ROW A/C cools cabin faster. However when both AC are operating at full speed cabin become noisy a bit. Seats : Not good, do not provide good lumbar support and cushions are softer than required. Even contour of seat do not feel ergonomic. Controls : Typical Maruti and are good. Leg Room : There is lot of debate about leg room, Maruti have managed internal space superbly, because of smaller engine engine compartment cabin get additional space. Also they have sacrificed boot space - only about 150 litre. So average sized 7 adult can easily travel for couple of hours. Check attached image for leg room. Certainly shoulder room is a much as most sedan in its class. Head Room : Enough
  13. Car Starting Problem

May be air lock problem in fuel system, check air vent and fuel tank cap for vapor escape. If they are found ok, then you may have to get fuel line examined for vapor locks. Sent from my MB855 using Tapatalk 2
  14. Please suggest a Tablet to buy

Android battery life is very poor. My recent trip to Himalaya really made me think about my love for android, my photon will exhaust within 12 hours with data on on patchy network. All the time I would be more bothered for battery then using phone for productivity while away from office. My few friends had blackberry which would easily last for 24 hours with data on. Reliance network was infact less patchy then GSM in himachal. Sent from my MB855 using Tapatalk 2

  16. Motorola Photon USSD Code Issues?

Motorola notoriously block NV items and controls radio behviour by NV rather than OS. Thats why in all moto global handsets, USSD codes do not work. Even when we load AOSP ROMs.
  17. The Off Topic Thread

Though this is not the thread where I should post it, but today I will break rule and make double post - one here and one in off topic discussion thread. Please watch this clip, very motivating and encouraging. http://www.youtube.com/watch_popup?v=BfL2U0BJ48g&vq=medium#t=81
  18. I don't own this camera but I found specs very interesting except funny fact that it can not zoom in video mode if audio recording is ON. Expensive though. May be good for PRO sort of people. http://www.letsbuy.com/olympus-sp-810uz-p-28417
  19. Water Purifier System

TDS meters measure conductivity of water and it is calibrated for translating in to TDS. So most of them are good to measure TDS but battery tend to get leak and damage meters. So for home use any thing is good as TDS is used to know initial quality of water. For those who wants to read further about water hardness / decriminalized water related WHO recommendation, please read this PDF. nutdemineralized.pdf
  20. Water Purifier System

Afaik, Delhi people get yamuna water and it is soft. If tds levels are less than 350 ro is useless and unhealthy. Get water checked with corporation lab or may be eureka Forbes. Sent from my MB855 using Tapatalk
  21. TO ALL RIMWEBIAN May I request members stop posting deals for timtara.com? I see so many complaints of timtara and I have witnessed it. I placed an order for camara on 12 Jan 2012, their usual time of shipping was 7-10 working days. They kept on making false promises of 3 days to 7 days and finally when I threatened them to lodge a police complaint, they refunded my money (it shows so on their web site) They practically do not have any CC and their replies are as stereo type as possible. Please note that 14.5 K around were blocked for 2 months and it is neither pleasant experience nor any one should waste so much of time in apprehension because one has already paid. I am trying to find out list of their investors and planning to write them so that they do not keep on funding frauds.
  22. Buying a new car? Discuss here!

There is always a truth behind experiences but we have to remember certain facts and also larger sample size help us to visualize reality better. I too have used maruti (2 vehicle), 2 tata vehicle (All for more than 80K kms, I change vehicle every 80-90K kms), my family, partner and friend put to gather access to almost all major brands (Not very premium and high end brands), I have driven many cars for more than 500 kms at once. (I have mentioned this just to prove that I too know a bit about cars, :-D ) In past I posted links to study and surveys published by JD POWER (Considered most authentic) reports for indian automotives and certainly they are eye opener. It does not say that Indian brands are best or Japanese brands are the best, but it gives perception free presentation of status of manufacturer and its product. http://businesscenter.jdpower.com/JDPAContent/CorpComm/News/content/Releases/pdf/2011203-iiqs.pdf (This is about initial quality) They always gives name of top 3 so if some brand is not there does not mean that it is worst and some one is topping does not mean that its the best. For example, Vento's suspension bottom very very easily hence it becomes very risky at high speed (Above 60 KMPH) on not so good road. On the same road driving manza or swift d'zire is safer and pleasant. But there is no debate about it. So my say is WE SHOULD NOT BE ASHAMED TO EXPRESS OUR- UNBIASED - GRAVIENCES AS WELL APPRECIATION.
  23. Buying a new car? Discuss here!

@dushi Indian brand, most Indians are ashamed to admit that Indian can make good product. I posted real time noise level of many cars some where in this thread and surprisingly no one had any comments about facts, had it been hypothetical discussion that x brand makes more noise than you brand every one will jump in defending own perception.
  24. Update about TIMTARA order placed on 12 Jan No delivery / update of status of order. They promised me in their last mail that by 2nd March , goods will be shipped out / refunded I am planning to lodge a police complaint against them. Only concern is, I have already disputed amount with my credit card company.
