I bought LG 3500 basic phone yesterday to replace my Palm Treo 700P as now I am using reliance as only incoming connection. I had no option but to buy LG 3500 as this is cheapest handset, I bought it for Rs. 950 bucks. Now good part of this handset. 1. Reasonable built. 2. Reasonably good display. 3. 500 phone + 250 RUIM phone book 4. 950 mA battery. 5. Micro USB cable connectivity (I used my Nokia E71 cable, fits as it is) 6. PC sync possible, perhaps LG is the only company offering PC sync on soooo cheap handset.) Even PC sync was absolutely flawless. 7. I think, possibility of using it as RCONNECT Modem, may require some tweaking, see screen shots, how this phone is identified as hardware. I am unable to run diagnostic on modem, but may be some techie can do some thing by modifying drivers. If it can be used as modem then perhaps this could be cheapest possible 1X modem. I do not agree with reliance policy to change tariff of postpaid customer at their will. Else I too loved reliance network and voice quality.

But there is no reason to believe that reliance gsm will be able to offer better quality due to inherent gsm limitation however 3g is different

I have used my samsung 191 mono handsfree successfully. U can try lg 2030 one too.

If you are looking for unlimited then idea is good. Provided you have edge there. Airtel offer good speed and seems to be improving day by day but are expensive.

This is for the information of people who might be interested in using treo 800W on tata, there is solution for SPC and PRL is available. So it can be activated on tata. Once it is here, we can think of even ESN.

@kamal Yes, vodafone is good where there is edge. But its not edge every where. Not in city like ahmedabad too. I think ahmedabad is not a small city.

BEAWARE OF VODAFONE for data. Their data services are not EDGE. Its GPRS almost 90% of network.

You must thank reliance for being so cheap. Once upona time it was about Rs. 115000 per GB (Rs. 115 per MB).

For data vodafone is worst. They are not edge enabled almost every where.

Airtel live is entirely different than RWORLD. You can browse on Airtel Live. Airtel live is more open than RWORLD. If you choose AIRTEL ON LINE (AON) then you can browse upto 3 MB per session (Outside sites) free. But this do not support any thing but HTML browsing. No mail / massengers. I spend now just Rs. 99 PM and able to check my mails and browse on mobile. I have never felt crunch of total data volume. 50 MB is sufficient - for me atleast.

may be new sim are MEID / pESN SIM and old handsets do not support MEID and pESN.

(ENsure that PC sync is not active at that time) 3. Run CDMA WORKSHOP, select require serial port - can find out from your device manager), click read all - you will get ESN and MIN ID of your RUIM.

Use QPST, load PRL and tata parameters, go to tata and get activated.

Quit reliance that is one solution . Airtel seems to be more ethical. Recently they too revised internet charges but they said new charges for postpaid will be applicable only if customers request.

That is because nokia belongs to europe, where locked handsets are not norm and in US Unlocked handsets are unknown to users. As far as OS are concerned, I will rate OS - MAC OSX, SYMBIA, PALM and WM (Usability and stability are main consideration) I find symbian as very robust and stable OS. I have not used MAC OSX for longer but certainly far ahead of WM and better than PALM.

GSM becoming more competative day by day but still they have long way to go to compete Relianc and TATA. What CDMA can offer GSM can never and what GSM can offer CDMA can not - atleast in near future. Reliance network wise surely far superior than any other operators. They offer best f tariff too. GSM can not offer voice clarity of CDMA and network stability of CDMA. I shiftet from AT&T to HUTCH TO BSNL TO reliance to Airtel hence I know. Reliance is best network wise (Quality and coverage) BSNL Is best coverage wise but poor in quality. Airtel is average. All other operators has their niche network - like in Gujarat VODAFONE has best coverage - but no EDGE. Airtel has good network as long as you are under sky. As soon as you are under roof, networks start dwindling. GSM has only one advantage - i.e. handset and because of which peace of mind. Because of poor handsets in CDMA - I was never at ease and peace. Airtel - for me - they have better CC than reliance.
