It just mean that they will make less profits and are looking for mid arpu customers. Also if they introduce handsets from unknown manufacturer there are less chances of getting cracked and unlocked means more loyal customer. Else once low or mid end customers comes to know that their cdma handset is useless for other service provider, they simply quit cdma. This is my observation.

If your idea is giving acces via proxy server, then you may not be able to use applications which connects to own proxies and sockets. For example, I can use Opera MINI, Yahoo Go and IM+ only if I use "MOBILE OFFICE" in Airtel, if I USE AON (WAP plan) than none works. BTW have you tried to access net on laptop / computer? are you successful, if yes then need to think further.

One of our rimweb member kewlmagician has used insta handset change card, successfully, and solved similar problem, I assume he was on postpaid. Cloning do not work on tata due to ssd or akey issue.

Just got call from TATA cc...they reconfirmed MIN...also they saying everything activated from their end...saying problem with phone programmin or phone itself... ab kya karein Tata has this problems these days, since they changed their switch. I have used Jabra 150 with my 700P, works perfect. Motorola too have used for a day or so, worked without issue. However Jabra has better sound quality and cost about Rs. 1500 now - may be less.

VOlume per model of handset may be same in CDMA and GSM as against 1 model of CDMA, there are atleast 10 models in GSM. CDMA is about 25-30% of total tele density. GSM is cheaper here in India, europe because unlocked handset market. in US, GSM is as expensive as CDMA or at times more expensive than CDMA because GSM handsets could be unlocked easily. Attractive call rates and handset prices only can attract consumers to CDMA. And CDMA can offer it because of its efficiencies. CDMA originally was introduces as WLL technology and BSNL too entered in to it as WLL only. Later, now they are planning to offer pan India CDMA coverage. till 2G, CDMA is certainly clear winner AFA efficincies and data speed is concern.... but gradually iit is loosing ground with evolving GSM technologies. CDMA seems to be efficient till EVDO RevA.

Yes, tata do accept foreign handsets. But it should have MSL / SPC as 000000. If it is verizon, then SPC is usually 000000 where as sprint uses unique SPC for each handset. You also need to load PRL. If SPC is known than you can write PRL very easily using PST. Else unless you know SPC you will not be able to do any thing.
