@honest Didnt I tell you they have EDGE under some special plan. As per new info from you its clear that EDGE is only available for Data Cards. These people sell a specific locked data-cards with customized settings so only those units can establish connection with EDGE capabilities. I hate these kinda companies who give services in CLOSED environment. Reliance is also one of them. Looks like in india CDMA is owned by only reliance as TATA is not yet as wide-spread as Reliance. What I like about reliance is its "PRESENCE IN REMOTE VILLAGES" (at least in remote village where my native place is and I can access NetConnect in that remote village too.

Just confirmed with RWebWorld, personal visit. In the printed material the speed of DATA CARD is PRINTED as "upto 144 kbps" and on wall they have stuck a POSTER on which they have written 154 KBPS by a MARKER PEN (cancelling 144kbps printed on it), which I think is a FALSE BUSINESS TACTIC. On thier website it still says 144 kbps. I forgot to take Photo. Will visit again and post a PHOTO of web-world with False Claims at RELIANCE WEB WORLD, HAJI ALI, Mumbai. Nearby people can go and check. IMHO, ITS WRONG BUSINESS TRICK. CM

Since very first day the reliance was showing 144 kbps as thier max speed and technical specs of LG and other netconnect models were also mentioning 144 kbps as max speed (Which we never got till date ) All of a sudden they started advertising the Netconnect speed as 154 kbps for Data Cards and PCMCIA cards in same CDMA2000 version. Without any major change in technology the speed cannot increase like that all of a sudden. So I think they are bluffing and showing us the high-jump speed experienced while downloading. While downloading there are always a DEAD-SPOTS are seen in download meters where sometimes download stops for fractions of seconds and again in next moment the speed is shown with a high-jump in the meter, but that does not mean it is the actual speed. See the attached image I uploaded here showing DEAD-SPOT and then a high-jump recorded in the image, which was wrongly shown as almost about 56 Kilobyte (impossible even with Edge) while it was actually downloading at the average speed of 22 kilobyte. What I mean to say, always count and tell only average speed and not the high-jump after the DEAD-SPOTs. This example image is taken from actual download with Motorola A1200 connected with usb cable to my LAPTOP with PREPAID AIRTEL's Mobile Office plan (Rs.15 unlimited per day) with cool EDGE (EGPRS) speed. In simple words, whatever Reliance say its technically 144 kbps with CDMA2000 and even this speed is not stable most of the times. Its starts with good speed and then stops responding after few minutes. Only occassionally I got stable speed upto max one hour with my Reliance Netconnect. Hope this discussion will help some of us to understand the scene. Your results may vary depending on area, phone models and plans, so dont start jumping on me without homework. C Mahendra Mumbai

hello honest I am not vodafone user, at the moment. but after your post here I EXTENSIVELY checked for the technical information on vodafone website http://www.vodafone.in but sadly did not find any any any information on gprs. not even settings. Looks like the Vodafone people are not yet out of thier "HANGOVER" of launch party. If you are informed Advanced GPRS, then its 100% only plain GPRS. Whatever advanced they call it, its not an EDGE or 3G or not even WCDMA. This plain GPRS will give maximum give 96kbits/sec if two slots are used for one-way at any moment. (2 slots x 48 kbps). But I think they must be giving EDGE under some commercial plan, which I am not sure about as it was a year past information I tried to get from thier tech-guys at Hutch Gallery. Dig a little more with the Tech-guys in Vodafone Gallery. They will sure give you more details on EDGE or 3G and will inform you under which business user (commercial) plan (mostly on PCMCIA or USB Datacards) it is available. Also I guess the high-speed net plans are not yet finalised by VODAFONE as the website www.hutch.in is expired and www.vodafone.in is very new site with no details on almost anything. Looks like they are more busy in selling Rs.1199 and Rs.1599 phones for people below poverty line and business users are neglected. I will not be surprised if these new companies will start selling these cheap phones on THELAAS and HAATHGAADIS This forum is funny, I saw many RELIANCE and AIRTEL users are sharing, comparing and debating on too much of information here, but no one from HUTCH/VODAFONE are active. Exactly, do not use this WORST software as RELIANCE wants to be smart with its subscribers. They want us to use this software to reduce thier bandwidth traffic at the cost of quality. The software is nothing but a Internet Protocol Control Addon, which reduces the quality and size of the images in your webpages. Technically it does not affects the download speed at any circumstances. This technique is already used at GPRS Servers. For example while visiting my own web-pages an image of 54kb on my own websitge, came in my browser with just 19kb, but I saw the image was blurred and worst quality. When I uninstalled the software and restarted pc and tried same web-page and again image came as 54kb. Its so simple like that. I am also complaining about increase in the time consumed for web-page download. The pages never come within first 3/5 seconds. Your results may vary. I tested with my reliance Prepaid connection. If you are getting better results, then something wrong with my settings and enjoy it. But post your results about quality of images. SIMPLE ADVICE: REMOVE THE SOFTWARE AND USE AS OUR NORMAL TCP/IP PROTOCOL IS. CM

Its clearly mentioned in the spec as 4+1 timeslots for trasnmission. meanz. 4 timeslots used fot Rx (recieve/download) and 1 slot for Tx (transmit/upload). Roughly calculating 4+1 will give 192 kilobits (24kbye) per sec download and 48 Kilobits (6Kilobyte) per sec upload. But again it all depends on ISP Locality, signal strength, ISP plans, and many other things involved. c mahendra

Hi viper Your request made me to dig a bit about nokia 5500 and I got this tech info GPRS Class 10 (4+1/3+2 slots), 32 - 48 kbps HSCSD No EDGE Class 10, 236.8 kbps 3G No Bluetooth Yes, v2.0 your model can give maximum 236.8 k/bits per sec with Edge reception (4 timeslots for RX+) and 32-48 k/bits per sec with Normal GPRS (single slot). I am afraid to say that as staying in a small town like Bijapur (sorry, compared to Metros) there may not be an EDGE reception by Airtel. You must try digging a bit with other models with same SIMCARD and also kick some as-ses at Airtel. Find some technical guy at Airtel Gallery (if any in Bijapur) and ask for current scenerio about the EDGE availability FYI, I have been to Bijapur several times so I know your city. An advice to you and everybody who ask such questions. When you ask some technical question like this, ALWAYS PROVIDE INFORMATION IN DETAILS. At least few basic things 1) What handset you are using (is it EDGE built in?) Some models say EDGE enabled in the manual but its not necessary they are compatible to asian and south asian mobile standards. The best EDGE we have seen in the models of mobiles released for Asian and South Asian countries which work well in INDIA. 2) Which city and area you live in? Do you get good network signal in your area. Is it Metropolitan city or small town or a village? FYI, there is no method how you increase your speed of Edge. It depends on which area you are accessing. May be Airtel does not have EDGE Transmission in your area and sending only normal GPRS channel which is very old technology now. Bluesoleil is branded and does not have any problem in hardware. the software is main problem. I myself found lots of bugs when I bought it last year and lots of problems I faced. Most bugs are regarding usb connectivity and com port conflict problems in old driver. I uninstalled old driver and downloaded the new version from main website and it worked like a charm. Never gave a problem in connect and also the worked cool with phone too. But another problem is the driver software is Trialware and you can transfer only 5 mb at a time. the stupid company wants money from us even for driver. There is no word i mentioned as impossible. read again. I am just wondoring how this can happen. its simple reliance mistake in thier (so called advanced) mobile isp system. I am using airtel gprs on prepaid connection, but if balance goes below 50 Rs. gprs does not connect. this will prevent your phone going in negative balance. if number is not important you can always forget it. Also check I did not say u did any fraud here. using rconnect is not fraud. I said in general if someone makes fraud (any kind of), they can catch mobile users by called or recieved phone numbers (if made ) waise bhee kaannon ke haath lambe hote hai. fraud means any threatening, porn-sms-mms, abusing,etc or any other kind of misuse of mobile. @Sadik Thanks for your effort but it will be better if you post only tested and working GPRS settings. Only one or two will do, but should be tested and working. As per excel document you have attached here, the loginname "guest" and password "guest" for Airtel (all india) will not work. I tried to change it in my mobile and connection failed. Using all three. TATA CDMA, RELIANCE CDMA, Airtel EDGE TATA CDMA - no unlimited plan, cost is high , speed is same as reliance. Disconnectes after few minutes, but not always. RELIANCE - cost is high, speed is upto 100 kbps (144 kbps on paper.). Disconnectes after few minutes, most of the time. AIRTEL EDGE - cheaper (rs15/day unlimited) Speed us 247 kbps with edge enabled phone. Never Disconnects. Stable. All tested with Download managers on PC. Not talking about one or two sites. Whats wrong with reliance. Generally all the outgoing services and RConnect should stop functionging when balance goes negative in PREPAID connection. How come this happen? Guptaet says he have -10000 and another fellow says many a times he goes below -25000. Its hard to beliave. Are they making some kind of joke? In Mumbai I have seen many a time Rconnect also stops if we do not have plus balance in Prepaid Mobile. JOKE OF THE DAY ============ Many people told Guptaet to change number or something like that. But what about all the phone calls you made and recieved. Every call details even in prepaid is recorded and kept in logs for legal reasons. Anyone can be easily traceable by that. Its another question if Reliance wants you to trace or not. But people dont think that you people cannot be caught after making frauds even on mobiles taken with wrong name or address.

The sales team does not know anything about latest models. Many models are discontinued and the large photos were still on the walls. Sales team was trained to sell only CLASSIC phones so they were looking like CHANAWALAs standing with tokri at SEAFACE of Mumbai. I insisted to talk with technical guy, he came I asked if any smartphones are avaibalbe to use with Reliance, he said big NO. I asked about the Blackberry shown on website he said , it is launched previous day but yet no information available with him. I told him the model and features of Blackbery shown on Reliance website. He was so thankful to me. I wanted PDA's, some model similar to Motorola A1200 (Ming) or RAZR-2 to be used with Reliance CDMA, but as there was nothing like it. I just left the place with hard feelings. Blackberry is useless as no further advancements are possible on it like Symbian and Linux phones. I already extended my GSM Motorola Ming with Edge modding and hundreds of softwares found on www.motorolafans.com Now I think I will stop using my 2 reliance numbers and go for GSM only, looking at latest developements in GSM about Mobile Internet. That directly hit my heart coz those comments were not based on current facts but thier old experience which did not matter now. So I tried to put more information about edge. you can check previous post in this same forum I remember I myself mentioned few months before that I got 17 kbps with EDGE and now it is 21kbps (kilo bytes) .
