  1. Two Good Plans From !dea

I agree Dhiraj. But if one doesnt want to go either for lower end phones (below 2500) or higher end phone (above 10k) then for multimedia phones, CDMA has very limited choice (one or two LG and/or samsung). At that price point (arround 5/6k) GSM has hundred quality choices.
  2. I called up a local vendor here. As per him, DDR2 will not go on Mercury. He told me the price of DDR - 1GB RS. 1725. DDR has max. 1GB stick. So if I have to upgrade to 2GB, I hv to buy 2 sticks costing 3450. So, I thought of changing motherboard too. That comes to - Rs.2500 for new MB + Rs.1300 for DDR2 1GB = Rs. 3800. Spending Rs.450 more, compare to adding 2GB of DDR, my PC gets new lease of life. But I guess, on new motherboard I would need new processor too. I cannot run P4 processor on it, can I ? If the OS requirement is 16GB, I think I can still go for it because I dont have much to load on it. Only my 6 yr daughter and my wife uses it to watch movies and surf the net. I have a laptop. But I dont know if my PC is having - "DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver" - how to find that ?
  3. Humm... Seems good advise. But I am ready to upgrade to 2GB RAM. Provided DDR2 should go on Mercury motherboard or I should be able to get DDR. However, you are also saying that 80GB will not be sufficient. So what is the space requirement for W7 ? You are right, I dont have DVD, but cant I run the installer from USB drive ?
  4. I happened to see this thread just now. I have an old PC of 2004. It is 2.4 GHz P4, 80GB HDD. It is having W2K Professional. Please dont laugh but.. it has 256MB DDR RAM. The motherboard is Mercury motherboard. I dont know whether it will accept DDR2 or not. Can anybody throw some light on it ? I want to upgrade it to 2GB. If DDR2 will not fit, I need to find DDR. Recently it has got some virus problem. It is poping an error message every now and then for explorer.exe. I tried several things but it seems some virus problem. I am thinking of installing either XP or Windows7. What you guys suggest ? However, I dont have W7. And I think now the free trial download is not available. Can anybody help me here ?
  5. How to Check Bill?

^^^ I used to do UNBIL to 51234 for unbilled usage. HOTBILL is new to me.
  6. All new entrants do such things because without that they are not able to do add more subscribers. Idea will not do the same in Maharashtra or Gujarat where they are age old player.
  7. How To Beat Fup On Netconnect & Photon?

As discussed above, the tariff for new user is Rs. 999/month Downloading speed depends on which area you are. At my place I am getting the speed of arroudn 160/200 kbps. But in some part of pune it goes to 800 kbps to more than 1 mbps.
  8. How To Beat Fup On Netconnect & Photon?

Existing user can continue using it at Rs 650/month. Good thing is that Rs. 999 for new customers will deter the new customers to come to BSNL because for that kind of tariff Reliance is the best. So the existing customer will not have to share bandwidth will the new ones But the point is that at Rs. 999 it is truly unlimited - ie. without any FUP.
  9. Vga To Ycbcr

In the Playback function section - it says it supports RM/RMVB, MPEG1/2/4, Divx, Xvid, M-JPEG. No mention of DivX or H264. But how to find out if it is chinese ?
  10. When you say it is not good, to which handset your are comparing ? What is the baseline ?
  11. Vga To Ycbcr

How about this device ? http://cgi.ebay.in/USB-2-0-TV-CARD-READER-SD-MMC-MS-MP4-Video-RMVB-Player_W0QQitemZ270492268695QQihZ017QQcategoryZ3759QQcmdZViewItem However, the description doesnt say that it support H264. The price is Rs. 1699. Please comment.
  12. SMS doesnt drain battery significantly. However, this is interesting. At this price I think it is the best phone with these features. But poor sound quality is an issue.
  13. First, there is no one answer for the main question. One cannot say that x network is the best through out India. So one needs to take an image from what ppl are saying here for different circles. RCDMA has given me the best experience in Gujarat, Mumbai, Maharashtra, Delhi. It was fluctuating in Banglore in some areas. Idea is equally good in Gujarat, Maharashtra. Vodaphone is Good in Gujarat and poor in Maharashtra. Airtel is the best in Banglore but poor in Maharashtra. BSNL is good. When you dont find any network in remote villages, you may find BSNL network. RGSM is the worst experience so far. Tata was very bad in Pune but somebody has written here that he experienced it at best. On a side track, according to me Tata has worst customer care in service industry across India.
  14. Vga To Ycbcr

Pranav, Thanks for your find. I think WDTV is a good option though a bit costly for the purpose. It is basically for HD output and I can do without it. Lets c.
  15. Vga To Ycbcr

Yes, I am not able to search any mkv player in India. I tried on ebay.in. I tried ojosoft total video converter. But a 350 MB file took 45 minutes to get converted to avi. Is there any fast converter available ? I came across this page, which have some players which plays almost all the formats. But they are not available in India.
  16. Vga To Ycbcr

Dhiraj, H264 is, I guess the most compressive form of video, and that is the reason that now a days it is getting popular. When a film is of 700 MB in avi it is arround 430 MB in H264 (mkv). To download H264 makes more sense because of the download limits and time to download a file. So if there is any DVD player which supports this it would make more sense now a days. I tried playing xvid in Philips but it didnt work. My hunt for the DVD player is still on. The Allok Video Converter is not freeware. It is free to try and converts only 50%. Is there any freeware available ?
  17. Uninor Launch On December 4, 2009

I think we are wasting our time discussing about uninor's tariff. Let them come to earth before we discuss about it.
  18. How To Beat Fup On Netconnect & Photon?

I would love to buy bsnl EVDO but it will not work in Mumbai ... Wld it? No. Not in Mumbai.
  19. Uninor Launch On December 4, 2009

    ^^^ I dont think so
  20. Lets Discuss Wwan / 3g Networks

^^ But, 3G is not available in all the circles. btw, what is the tariff ?
  21. BSNL, I guess, has its worst service in Banglore. The best service in Banglore, even for landlines, is from Airtel.
  22. Uninor Launch On December 4, 2009

Tata Docomo started the tariff war by the innovative scheme of 1p/sec. That was a bomb for all others. Now the innovation for any new operator should be Rs. 3xx/month and all calls anywhere in India for free . This will ensure two things for the new operator - 1. they will be able to attract many users 2. They will have fix ARPU and that too above the established players !! Otherwise who would go for uninor for such tariff ?
  23. Reliance Netconnect Broadband Plus On Evdo

I went for Huawei EC 1260. It works perfectly fine. Speed is good. But heats up in very few minutes.
  24. How To Beat Fup On Netconnect & Photon?

For truly unlimited access go for BSNL's EVDO. Rs.650/month. I am ready sell mine.
  25. Good innovation. It is to be seen when the Broadband+ and BSNL EVDO will follow it.
