Problem With R Connect Software On My Laptop
24x7netuser replied to saurabhvarma's topic in Data services
here r some trble shootin steps - pretty basic stuff - but no harm in trying. 1. make sure yr laptop usb port is working ok: boot up laptop (i am assuming u r using XP). with xp on nd u logged in, connect yr reliance cable 2 phone, make sure phone is turned on, make sure the serial-usb connection is proper nd not loose, nd then plug in the usb cable into the usb port. If all things r ok, yr XP should say "detected new hardware" after 2-4 secs. If it does not, try some other usb device (like webcam) If still XP does not detect any h/w - it could b a problem with yr usb port (try second usb port if u hve it) also try - going into control panel - add/remove hardware - search for new hardware - check if it detects phone. 2. If XP detects other usb h/w but not yr reliance phone, there is a problem with the cable - go 2 a vendor nd get it verified that the serial to usb converter is ok - maybe the pins r nor compatible. 3. Another way to confirm that it is a problem with converter nd not phone/laptop, is to use a standard PC: make sure pc is turned off, turn phone on, plug in the cable into the pc's serial port nd turn pc on. the pc should detect the new h/w - if not - go to control panel - add/remove hardware and search for new hardware - if it detects, the problem is with yr cable - if not with phone - take to nearest webworld nd give them hell. though the reliance phones r cool in connecting to net on the go - they r a massive pain when they start giving errors - sometime feel like throwing the phone at the idiotic guys in the web world - all stupid - don't know head or tail of what they r supposed to do. cheers nd njoy let me know if these steps help u s_shr@indiatimes.com -
also as a follow-up connection: if i am successful in dialling into the ras server nd request a call-back frm the server, when the server calls the relinace cell # - will the cell pick up the call as a data call nd make the connection??? has anyone tried this? cheers nd njoy

I am trying 2 connect into my companies RAS server using my reliance (samsung sch-n191) mobile. I create a new dial-up connection, give the co.'s tel # as # 2 dial into and give my usrnme nd pwd. When i dial - a msg is dispayed on the screen of my cell - something like "Data service not available - this service is currently unavailable" anyone know what is happening nd how i can dial in to my ras server? i hve tried from a friends pc using a landline modem - it works. I don't want to waste money 2 get a lousy landline just 4 this. there is always a way - let me know if any of u hve any ideas. cheers nd njoy

Though the r-connect dialer s/w is ok - i found it best not 2 use it @ all - it installs all kind of unnecessary files on your pc that apart from taking up space (also creating entry in the program list) can get bothersome for techie users who prefer to do it the simpler way. CAUTION - only for experienced users - I do not take responsibility of any mess you make while you are following these instructions: here is what i do (assuming u hve a pc free of r-connect s/w - if u hve the s/w - u hve 2 uninstall it and also the modem(phone) drivers) 1. turn pc on 2. plug in yr phone (if u hve usb adapter - if there is serial connector - connect it first nd then turn on pc) 3. wait 4 pc to recognize new hardware (if it dosen't - go 2 control panel - add/remove h/w and search 4 new h/w) 4. when the wizard asks 4 drivers 4 new h/w tell it 2 look in the r-connect cd (in proper location) 5. it will install drivers and then say found new modem - repeat the process -tell it to look in the cd at the correct location 6. create a new dial-up connection with phone no. to call #777, usrnme nd pwd as your rim # with std code but without the 1st 0 eg if yr no. is 08031234561, enter usrnme nd pwd as 08031234561. use tone dialling. modem 2 use - select your rim phone modem - if it does not appear in the list of modems - repeat steps 4-5 till it does. 7. create shortcut on desktop 8. double click on it - connect nd y u ready 2 go cheers nd njoy
