  1. I have a Nexus 7 2013 tablet and require a sim for 3g data and if possible, SMS. I understand that the Nexus 7 does not do voice calls. What is the best 3g data sim for Ambernath?

  4. This guide will eliminate the process of HI-APN or any other APN backup apps, strings or scripts. Download the attachment apns-conf.xml on your desktop. This method works from 4.0.4 LF2 to MB1 4.1.2. Phone has to be rooted and bootloader unlocked. Install Root explorer.apk on the phone and place the file apns-conf.xml in system>etc folder. SU will grant permissions. This file contains APNs of the entire GSM networks worldwide, got it from Google code. 2G/3G will work as usual. This mod works on any custom ROM. 4.1.2 and rooting guide:- http://theunlockr.com/2013/04/02/how-to-root-the-verizon-samsung-galaxy-s-iii-running-android-4-1-2/ apns-conf.xml
  5. After a downtime of 6+ months of 3G connection issues in BSNL Gujarat circle, it has been finally made up. I remember last time using it in last week of December 2012 and would get successfully connected only after midnight. Customer service declared it to be a server overload problem, which was being rectified. On 18/02/2013, I got an sms from BSNL: "Dear Customer, BSNL has further upgraded the network. Enjoy internet surfing on 3G". Now I am getting 2.5 Mbps plus on my Galaxy Tab 2.

  7. HTC Desire C (Golf) hands on

While browsing a galaxy of new smartphones launched in India, set off to purchase a smartphone which is manufactured in Q2 2012, so as a new phone will last well atleast for its first year. Ordered it on flipkart.com for Rs 12,300 inclusive of 8GB micro-SD card. The next day when I checked the purchase summary, it stated delivery after 9 days and so cancelled the order. Got a seal packed piece from Indraprasht shopping centre, Borivali, Mumbai for Rs 10,000 excluding the memory card with 1 year HTC warranty. Initial hands-on:- A light press on power and it boots on, boot time is quite less. Device takes quite a minimal time to settle down. The 4.0.3-Sense 4A interface is identical to the HTC One series. The back cover is rubber coated to prevent slip-off. It fits well in an average sized palm. Google sync went through well though some users claim HTC Golf has sync issues. It supports social site syncing as well. In-call:- Call quality showed a little more bass but it was reasonably clear both ways. HTC dialpad was easy to use, searching contacts was good too. The phone does not lag herein. Sad part here is, when in call, the proximity sensor does not sense the call, instead the screen goes off as soon as the call gets connected and then one has to press the power button repeatedly to switch on the screen till you hang up. It seems the phone has the proximity sensor bug which is not adjustable/repairable at this moment. Network connectivity:- Phone works well in WCDMA preferred mode. Auto switching between 3G and 2G bands work properly. 3G data can download any file from anywhere without compromising on battery or overall OS stability. Social Networks:- Facebook initialization, log-in and usage showed no lags of using a 600 MHz processor, Tapatalk, Forum Runner and Whatsapp worked flawlessly in this so called low powered device. Inspite of all the power hungry apps running in background, the back panel did not warm up. Touch was as responsive as it was designed. Screen:- With a 3.5 inch HVGA screen, images did not look cheap, videos did not shudder at any time. The bottom padding and key size of HTC ime is not adjustable so in some websites/ form fills it can be a little hectic to space out the type margin while using the HTC ime. Auto brightness works well and this phone's lowest brightness level is lower than most phones. Chrome does have visual niggles on this phone as in others. Camera:- No autofocus and no flash but still the image quality is not that cheap. HTC Sense 4 UI camera fits well with this phone's hardware aperture. Low light imagery is not good though. Camera can click fast and review time in gallery is fast. Battery:- Cannot expect a week long battey life just because the hardware is limited and screen size is smaller. Battery lasts for about 4 hours talktime on WCDMA and 5 hours on GSM. 3G data does take up the jiuce fast but slightly better than faster devices. Battery never heated up at any point of time. Music time lasted very well. OS-UI:- HTC's Sense UI 4A on 4.0.3 ICS on a low powered entry level device. The performance of this combination did not let down HTC's reputation. But this is surely not a gamepad. Games do not work well on this phone. Overall:- A better entry phone with a workable and tweakable OS. Future ROM developement can improve phone operations drastically. At 98 gms it is worthwhile for those using for heavy duty calling. Music quality with Beats Audio is fine. Hint:- Do not unlock bootloader and root your phone, custom roms (fewer) are unstable and not daily drivers. Reverting back to stock RUU is not possible because of non-availability of stock boot.img, Bootloader re-locked will continue to show warnings, CID errrors and more. 8. [3G][GSM]: Faster Cellular Data Speed

This development done by a dev bahathir @ XDA is awesome. My d/l speed just doubled by doing this. Following is the development posted on XDA. Disclaimer: 1) This is for developers and advanced users who know what to do. 2) Do it at your own risk. I am not responsible to any problem due to this modification/hacking. 3) I am not showing how to change/edit the file. 3 days ago, I did a change in /system/etc/ppp/peers/pppd-ril.options. This is the orignal content of the file. Code: nodetach debug noauth defaultroute usepeerdns connect-delay 1000 # Don't remove the user/password lines. They are required to make PPPD authenticate itself with # the BP when doing Simple IP (SIP). The BP will replace the user/password strings with the correct # values when authenticating to the network-side PPP peer. user NotUsed@nobody.com password NotUsed crtscts lcp-echo-failure 0 lcp-echo-interval 0 ipcp-max-configure 30 ipcp-max-failure 30 ipcp-max-terminate 10 novj linkname ril Just by commenting or remove line 18, Code: # novj we may able to get better 3G network speed. The change may enable the Van Jacobson style TCP/IP header compression. Your cellular network may or may not support this feature. My 3G cellular network (Celcom Malaysia, HSDPA 3.6Mbps) seem to be supporting this feature. Before the change, I got (down/up) 3.4/0.5 Mbps, but, after the change, the result is quite impressive as we can see in the screenshot. Sometime, I got about 2x of download speed when download podcasts MP3s, from 400 kBps to upto 800 kBps. Mbps : Mega bit per second kBps : kilo BYTE per second Anyone who tried this hack/mod either for 3G or 4G, please report your before and after results. Remember to reboot after changes Thank you Reference: $ man pppd Original Thread Link : http://forum.xda-dev...d.php?t=1800351
  9. Now, there seems to be good news for all the 2G, 3G and 4G Mobile Internet users, India’s telecom watchdog Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) today issued guidelines on Minimum Quality Benchmark for Mobile Internet services – GPRS, 2G and 3G / EVDO and 4G Data service. With the new regulation – “Standards of Quality of Service for Mobile Data Services Regulations, 2012” TRAI will monitor Quality of Mobile Internet service on nine parameters, including Minimum Download Speed, Successful Data transmission Download and Upload Attempts, Latency – the amount of time taken by a packet to reach the receiving endpoint after being transmitted from the sending endpoint etc. The TRAI has also recommended that all Mobile Internet Service providers should activate Mobile Internet (GPRS/3G/4G/CDMA – EVDO) within 3 hours of the customer requesting for it, with a 95% success rate. TRAI said that presently, there is No Quality of Service Standards for the Mobile Data Services in India. It is necessary to benchmark and monitor the quality of service offered by the service providers of mobile data services with various options open to the implementing agencies so that the interests of consumers are protected. TRAI, therefore, decided to benchmark the Quality of Service parameters for mobile data services, so that the interests of consumers are protected. Accordingly, the draft regulations have been prepared by the regulator. Proposed Quality of Service parameters for Mobile Data services : All Mobile Internet Service providers have been asked to send /submit their view or comments on above regulation by 25th July, 2012 and counter comments by 1st August, 2012 to the TRAI. 10. Hello Guys !! Good to be back at the forum and posting after such long gap ... anyways I have a query for which I only think I can get the answer here ...so here it goes.. I have been RCDMA customer till this April. Although they had many service and data issue, one thing that I liked about RCDMA is that if you have a EvDO postpaid/prepaid plan activated and if you go on national roaming, no additional charges would be needed and you can use EvDO service at roaming area and it will only be deducted from you data plan usage.. However since I switched to Idea GSM, I found this not be the case for GSM provider (atleast for Idea). IF I use 3g data while in roaming, no matter what 3g plan I have activated, the usual rates of 10p/10kb are charged (maybe more I dont remember). In my opinion this is not justified.. I wanted to know if you have experiences with other GSM provided like docomo/vodafone etc where 3g data plan is still usable on roaming ? I have just completed 90 days with Idea and was thinking of MNP to other provider and this is my primary criteria for screening (inclined to go for vodafone or docomo). Thanks !!

  21. http://www.moneycontrol.com/news/cnbc-tv18-comments/bharti-vodafone-idea-may-form-strategic-alliance-for-3g_496911.html If you are a Vodafone customer and live in an area where Vodafone has not received 3G spectrum, don’t fret. You may still be able to receive 3G services if Bharti Airtel or Idea have won spectrum in the area, without changing your service provider, reports CNBC-TV18’s Kritika Saxena quoting sources. It is learnt that the three players are in talks for a strategic alliance for rolling out 3G services pan India. Sources add that the 3G deal between all the three telecom companies is likely to come through by mid-November, while the tripartite agreement will be based on revenue sharing model. If the alliance is finalised then it will cater to 33 circles, sources say. Bharti Airtel won 13 circles, Idea obtained 11 circles and Vodafone got 9 circles in the bidding. Though Bharti CFO confirmed that they are in talks to form alliance, he refused to comments on the names of telecom companies yet. Meanwhile, Vodafone also said that they are in talks with quality players for a tie up and will make announcement in due course of time. Idea too added that they are talking with leading telcos for 3G tie-up.
