I want to buy a an Android CDMA handset with 1GB of RAM (or more), I will use it for the following features: Voice Calls and SMSs EVDO whatsapp chatting/sharing pics/videos etc. 24x7 (not 1x, original issue with 1x is discusssed here) Wi-Fi tethering Google Maps (I use GPS a lot) These are the major uses. I have airtel and I will port to tata docomo CDMA (not Reliance because my friend had Reliance CDMA few years back and I have seen their customer service, not much different from BSNL). I decided to switch to CDMA because of excellent call quality, signals rarely drop (at least in Hyderabad and wherever else I roam) and good EVDO connectivity, not to mention I am getting some severe headaches if I talk for long time on GSM. I used CDMA few years back and never had headaches even if I talked for 2 hours. 7K Budget, I can raise it to 12K if I get some really good handset which does not give me problems mentioned here I avoid imported handsets because I read a post about the disadvantages . Do these imported phones get updates for both apps and OS ?

Suggest me my first Android - Entry level Requirements: GSM Dual SIM / Dual Stand By preferred Absolute and heavy 3G Browsing on one SIM Good screen size for lot of reading Good Batttery Solid build quality Need to play with Latest Android on UI Customisation and App Development Good Camera (to send Design mockup/proof images) Basic gaming for my 12 years old niece (like Subway Surfer, Temple Run, etc) To use some productivity apps: Todoist, Trello and Evernote and Time tracking apps Im on limited budget: Rs 7000 Shortlisted handsets are: moto e Micomax Unite 2 Redmi 1S Android One and the new entry - Huawei Honor Holly I read almost all reviews of these handsets, but our dear members advice is the key My Testing Experience: I used and tested moto e and MMX Unite 2 with my friends. Reg. my user experience Unite 2 is very average due to limited memory and build quality, so i omitted this. Where as moto e is superb build quality, very handy and curvy design is so attractive. Browsing is also excellent. But i feel the screen size is not suitable to my browsing use. Some more screen space is better. moto e camera is also average quality. MMX camera is much better. Android One speck looks good but the Battery is a big let down and never got a chance to see in any hands. Redmi 1s is excellent on its spec. Even its square design is also looks good. I just checked few minutes and its very responsive. Their circus sales scared me, but now the handset is available through the generous member(s) with in our forum. But recent Heating and App. Crashing and battery issues raises the question on reliability. Recent entry Huawei Honor Holly is also excellent spec with 5" screen, Kitkat. moto e is my choice but due to Screen size only i prefer between Redmi and Honor Holly. Both the phones specs are good except for Mediatek chipset of Honor Holly. So friends, please suggest me on Redmi 1s with risk of heating and testing of MIUI or go with Huawei Honor Holly. Sorry for my long story.

Hello! The main reason of posting this topic is just to help members who gets confused when they see ODEX and DEODEX Reference Source : What Is Odex And Deodex In Android [Complete Guide] One commonly occurring word when playing with custom ROMs and firmware, and even themes is deodexed and odexed Most users fail to understand what these terms actually imply. WHAT IS AN ODEX? In Android file system, applications come in packages with the extension .apk. These application packages, or APKs contain certain .odex files whose supposed function is to save space. These odex files are actually collections of parts of an application that are optimized before booting. Doing so speeds up the boot process, as it preloads part of an application. On the other hand, it also makes hacking those applications difficult because a part of the coding has already been extracted to another location before execution. WHAT IS DEODEX? Deodexing is basically repackaging of these APKs in a certain way, such that they are reassembled into classes.dex files. By doing that, all pieces of an application package are put together back in one place, thus eliminating the worry of a modified APK conflicting with some separate odexed parts. In summary, Deodexed ROMs (or APKs) have all their application packages put back together in one place, allowing for easy modification such as theming. Since no pieces of code are coming from any external location, custom ROMs or APKs are always deodexed to ensure integrity. HOW THIS WORKS Android OS uses a Java-based virtual machine for running applications, called the Dalvik Virtual Machine. A deodexed, or .dex file contains the cache used by this virtual machine (referred to as Dalvik-cache) for a program, and it is stored inside the APK. An .odex file, on the other hand, is an optimized version of this same .dex file that is stored next to the APK as opposed to inside it. Android applies this technique by default to all the system applications. Now, when an Android-based system is booting, the davlik cache for the Davlik VM is built using these .odex files, allowing the OS to learn in advance what applications will be loaded, and thus speeds up the booting process. By deodexing these APKs, a developer actually puts the .odex files back inside their respective APK packages. Since all code is now contained within the APK itself, it becomes possible to modify any application package without conflicting with the operating systems execution environment. ADVANTAGES & DISADVANTAGES The advantage of deodexing is in modification possibilities. This is most widely used in custom ROMs and themes. A developer building a custom ROM would almost always choose to deodex the ROM package first, since that would not only allow him to modify various APKs, but also leave room for post-install theming. On the other hand, since the .odex files were supposed to quickly build the dalvik cache, removing them would mean longer initial boot times. However, this is true only for the first ever boot after deodexing, since the cache would still get built over time as applications are used. Longer boot times may only be seen again if the dalvik cache is wiped for some reason.

Top 15 1080HD Android Phones From China Source 1080 HD, quad-core, these are the specifications Android phone enthusiasts are demanding for 2013, and no other market is on the cutting side of leading edge than China! Keep reading for Gizchina’s top 15 1080HD Android phones from China! If we would back the clocks exactly 12 months you would fine exactly zero 1080 Chinese branded phones, in fact you would have found it pretty difficult to find any phone maker with a full HD phone back then, but in only 1 year HD phones with quad-core processors are arriving in scores! The first 1080, quad-core Chinese Android phone to launch was the Oppo Find 5, which was in fact one of the first phones of it’s kind to launch in the world! Now, only 2 months in to the year, we are seeing more and more 1080 phones arriving, so which do we think are the best? As always we haven’t placed these phones in any particular order, in out mind they are all fantastic phones at amazing prices. Only time will tell as to just how good they eventually become! Lando X02 A unique design, ultra thin bezel and amazing specification make the Lando X02 a must watch Chinese phone for 2013! Lando X02 Specification Lando make very few phones each year, but every phone they do produce features a stylish CNC’d alloy body, stunning design and value packed specification. The X02 will be no different and features a 1.7Ghz Quad-core Qualcomm APQ806, processor, 2GB RAM and Adreno 320 graphics. Like many Flagship phones the Lando X02 will sport a 5-inch 1080 display, a front 2 mega-pixel camera and rear 13 mega-pixel sensor. Android 4.1 Jelly Bean will come as standard, and a huge 4500mAh battery should keep the phone going easily over a busy day! Why we like the Lando X02 The X02 is one of the most original looking Chinese phones to enter the market. It’s not all style though as the hardware is spot-on and and pricing is competitive. The standard model will cost just 2500 Yuan ($400) while the bling bling gold plated model will set you back 3480 Yuan ($556) Umi X2 The UMi X2 was one of the first MTK quad-core phones to be announced. The design may not be as striking as other phones on the list, but the equipment, features and price really make this a bargain to good to miss! UMi X2 Specification Just go and take a look at any flagship 5-inch, 1080HD phone from any manufacturer and what do you see? quad-core CPU, 2GB RAM, 13 mega-pixel camera? It’s all here on the UMi X2 too! The X2 is set to launch very soon and will feature a quad-core MT6589 processor from Meidatek. Not only is this an efficient and cost effective choice, but it also means the X2 will offer dual-sim support! Why we like the UMi X2 UMi impressed us last year with the dual-core X1, and we imagine they’ll do the same again this year with the X2! Oh, and the price is really competitive too at only 1499 Yuan ($240)!! Some resellers are already offering the phone for pre-order meaning the X2 launch should be very soon! iOcean X7 iOcean have been making affordable Android phones in China for years, but the brand have only just started making headlines with the announcement of the iOcean X7, so what is all the fuss about? iOcean X7 Specification The X7 is a cross between the UMi X2 and the Oppo Find 5. The body look very similar to the Find 5′s, while the hardware and features are exactly the same as the X2. Quad-core MT6589, dual-sim, 5-inch 1080 HD display, 2GB RAM, 13 mega-pixel rear camera etc. There will also be a ‘Youth’ edition of the iOcean, which will cost less, but offer a 8 mega-pixel rear camera. Why we like the iOcean X7 We like the X7 because it looks as good as a Find 5, comes with hardware as rock-solid and amazing as the UMi X2, but will cost less at just 999 Yuan ($160)!! Alcatel One Touch Idol X Alcatel is TCL’s international brand under which it sells it’s phones. The One Touch Idol X is the first quad-core, 5-inch phone for them to offer and it looks pretty special. Alcatel One Touch Idol X Specification The One Touch Idol X only is the most recently announced of all the phones here, and is on display at the Mobile World Congress as we speak. The overall design, shape and colour of the phone reminds us of the HTC Butterfly/Droid DNA, and the similarities don’t stop there. The Idol X packs a 5-inch 1080 display, quad-core MT6589 processor, 13 mega-pixel rear camera and Android 4.2 Jelly Bean! Those who have managed to have time with the Idol X say the phone is extremely comfortable to hold and is impressively lightweight! Why we like the Alcatel One Touch Idol X We really like the bright colour and large display of the Idol X, but what impresses us more is that we know TCL are a high quality brand with a great community and offer tons of support! Best of all though is that the Idol X will officially launch outside of China! Oppo Find 5 The first to launch, one of the first to hit the market, and one of the first Chinese phones to really show the world what China is capable of! Oppo Find 5 specifications The Find 5 checks all the right boxes, there is a Snapdragon S4 Pro 1.5Ghz CPU, 2GB RAM, 13 mega-pixel Sony Exmor Pro rear camera and a 5-inch 1080 display! It’s been getting rave reviews all over the world, with some reviewers claiming it’s the best built smarphone they have ever set hands on! Why we like the Oppo Find 5 Oppo have been building up to the Find 5, and their handwork has really pulled off! They have launched one of the best Android smartphones from any manufacturer, they did it before almost all other companies and they have kept pricing affordable. The Find 5 is already on sale in China, the international version is coming soon. Koobee Max The Koobee Max is still under development, but from what we have learned about this new phone, manufacturers such as UMi and iOcean should be a little worried! Koobee Max Specification We don’t know all the details for the Koobee Max, but what we do know is that the design is similar to the UMi X2 but with what appears to be a much narrower screen bezel which should make the phone easy to hold. We also know a Mediatek MT6589 processor will be running a 5-inch 1080 display and the rear camera will be at least a 13 mega-pixel unit. Why we like the Koobee Max The Koobee Max is the underdog here, we don’t know much about the phone but they seem to be on the right track, and if pricing is reasonable we expect to see plenty of Max’s out on the streets. ZTE Grand S ZTE wowed the world earlier this year at CES when the launched the wafer thin ZTE Grand S. Reviewers weren’t just blown away by the size of the phone though, the hardware and build is pretty darn good too! ZTE Grand S specification Think back to a previous year’s CES and tell us how often a Chinese phone maker appeared in the headlines. Not easy is it, well 2013 was different as Chinese brands were all over the news, and ZTE’s Grand S was one of the reasons. Like the Oppo Find 5, the Grand S packs a quad-core Snapdrgon CPU, 2GB RAM, 13 mega-pixel camera and 5-inch 1080 display, however in this case it is all packed in to a 6.9mm body! Of course this means the battery is a little on the thin side, but that didn’t stop ZTE building in support for LET too! Why we like the ZTE Grand S The thin design, great hardware and low price all make the Grand S a great buy. In fact at 3000 Yuan ($480) for the 16GB model with LTE, some might argue it’s a better buy than the Oppo Find 5! Huawei Ascend D2 Huawei were also at CES and along with the huge Ascend Mate, they unveiled the flagship 5-inch Ascend D2! Huawei Ascend D2 Specifications The Ascend D2 takes the RAM, screen and rear camera of the Oppo Find 5 and ZTE Grand S, then adds in a few extra features. The Ascend D2 is also dust and waterproof, something ZTE and Oppo have left out on their phones, plus the base D2 get’s 32GB of built-in memory rather than just 16GB. Why we like the Ascend D2 Unlike other manufactures on this list, Huawei have gone that extra mile and have developed their very own quad-core processor. The Huawei K3V2 runs at 1.5Ghz, and gives us a little bit of extra assurance that Huawei will support device for longer than other companies abandon theirs. Lenovo K900 The Lenovo K900 was also spotted at CES and again at MWC, and is the first Android phone to ditch Qualcomm, Nvidia or Mediatek in favour of an Intel processor! Lenovo K900 Specification Not only is the Lenovo K900 the first and only phone on our list to receive the new Intel Clover Trail processor, it also happens to be the largest phone boasting a 5.5-inch 1080HD panel! With the Intel chip along with 2GB RAM performance is impressive to say the least, but the rest of the phone looks great too, with a stainless steel body making it durable and rugged. Why we like the Lenovo K900 We like the fact that Lenovo have pushed the envelope and have done something no other manufacture has done yet. We also like the idea of a 5.5-inch 1080 phone with a 2GHz processor capable of Antutu scores of up to 25,000! JiaYu S1 JiaYu are best known for their dual-core MT6577 G3, which took the Chinese smartphone by storm last year. The replacement G4 is on the way next month, but we will have to wait until later in the year for the JiaYu’s 1080 model. JiaYu S1 specification The JiaYu S1 is currently undergoing development, but specifications along with leaked images have long been available. The S1 will be JiaYu’s first ever 5-inch 1080HD phone, it will also be the companies fist non MTK handset as they have opted to use a Snapdragon S4 Pro running at 1.5Ghz! With the S4 on board, 2GB RAM, 13 mega-pixel rear camera and 5-inch 1080 display, the S1 could be the surprise of the year! Why we like the JiaYu S1 The S1 has a few first for JiaYu. The first 1080 phone, the first Snapdragon phone, and we want to see how they are able to handle the challenges. We also can’t wait to see this as a possibly Xiaomi destroyer! Neo N003 Neo have always been there in the background when JiaYu launch a new phone, or playing second fiddle to UMi. The N003 though could propel the brand on to the frontline and we can’t wait to see what they have planned. Neo N003 specification Development of the N003 seems to be slower than that of JiaYu’s and UMi’s phones, but according to the brand’s community forum, the N003 is set to launch in March! If this is the case they have done a great job of keeping spy photos from leaking, as we have yet to see any real photos of this phone. We do know the spec though and the N003 will launch with a 5-inch 1080 display, 2GB RAM, 13 mega-pixel rear camera and quad-core MT6589 processor running at 1.2Ghz. Why we like the Neo N003 To be honest we don’t know if we do like the N003. It appears great on paper, but without seeing an image of the phone it’s been a little difficult to get too excited about it. That said though, with a launch planned for next month we don’t have long to wait. Nubia Z5 The Nubia Z5 launched shortly after the Oppo Find 5 and features much of the same hardware. The phone is only available in China and through Nubia Experience stores, but if you have a chance to buy one take a close look! Nubia Z5 Specifications Nubia is actually ZTE’s premium brand for the Chinese market, and as the Z5 is the flagship phone, it shares a lot of the same features as the ZTE Grand S. The display is the same OGS 5-inch 1080 unit, the same Snapdragon S4 Pro CPU and 2GB RAM is in place, and the same 13 mega-pixel rear camera is used. From a design stand-point they are totally different, the Nubia offers a cast alloy white body, and features a red glowing home button. There is even a Titanium version available if you happen to be super wealthy. Why we like the Nubia Z5 It’s a classy design and they are rare as hens teeth. The features set and hardware isn’t bad either, although it is more costly than the ZTE Grand S and doesn’t offer much in the way of additional function. The list of actual physical phones you can buy now, or very soon ends here. The last 3 models on the list are still unconfirmed rumour phones, but we have enough evidence to know that their concepts are at least true! Vivo X5 Last year Vivo went from being a brand that many of us new of but didn’t really think about to becoming the manufactures of the worlds thinnest Android smartphone! Only later to have the title taken by TCL/Alcatel. The X5 though, has another world’s first title to claim. Vivo X5 Specifications The only physical proof of the X5 is this leaked photo of a 5-inch 1080 display. Take a good look at it as this could be the worlds first borderless display! The rest of the phone is currently unknown, but as the phone will be on sale in China only and the current X1 is a MTK phone, we’ll go ahead and say that the X5 will get a quad-core MT6589 processor with 2GB RAM! Why we like the Vivo X5 The X5 is could be the world’s first borderless phone! This is pretty special, and although it will only be available in China, the technology could make it’s way in to the next Oppo phone for 2014! Now that’s exciting! Xiaomi Mi3 Xiaomi rumours and leaks have begun already. We know the Mi3 is coming we just don’t know when. Xiaomi Mi3 specification The Mi3 is rumoured to have a 5-inch 1080 display, 2.5GB RAM, 13 mega-pixel rear camera and could possibly run a Nvidia Tegra 4 quad-core chip! Other than that we don’t know much else except it will likely cost 1999 Yuan ($320). Why we like the Xiaomi Mi3 The current 4.3-inch, Snapdragon equipped Mi2 is one of our favourite phones, I actually own one as my personal phone! I love the power, speed, battery life, great rear camera and the price. If the Mi3 is at least as good as the Mi2 but with a 1080 display I would be happy, but with the extra power and higher res camera It’s going to be a whole lot more! Zopo ZP960 Not much is known about this mystery phone from Zopo. Other than the specs don’t match the photo, but the leak appeared on the official Zopo Facebook page. Zopo quad-core specifications According to the specs the mystery Zopo will run a quad-core processor, get 2GB RAM and a 13 mega-pixel rear camera. However, the leaked photo of the device shows a rear 8 mega-pixel camera! Oh, it is also going to have a 5-inch 1080 display. Why we like the mystery Zopo phone Who doesn’t like a mystery? UPDATE: Learn more about the Zopo ZP960 here!

How to Backup Apps with Their Data and Settings on a Non-Rooted Android Phone
phonegeek posted a topic in General Technical Discussion
I know many dont want to root the phone but want to have complete backup of their app+data and here is a guide how it can be done: We will see how you can take backup of Android apps along with their associated data and settings without rooting your phone. Those of you who are not running a rooted Android OS and are looking for ways to take backup of saved game content, this tool can help you with that. I am not sure about the fact, but I think that the tool only works for Android devices running Ice Cream Sandwich and above. Still you can try it out on the Ginger Bread devices and let us know if it worked. Of course, you should proceed with caution and only proceed if you are sure because we aren’t responsible if you brick your phone in the process. Note: The tool requires Android SDK to be installed on your computer and if you don’t already have it, you can refer to this article (the first two steps) to install and configure it. Taking a BackupStep 1: Download the latest build on the Ultimate Backup Tool from XDA Developers Site and extract all the contents to a folder. It’s not necessary that you make a folder in the path where you have installed ADB. The tool will automatically detect it on your computer, if it’s installed. Step 2: Turn on USB Debugging on your Android phone and connect it to the computer using the data cable. You can find the option to turn on USB debugging in Android Settings—>Developer options. Check the option and close it. Step 3: Now run the UBT (Ultimate Backup Tool) batch file from the folder you extracted the tool. UTB runs in command line mode and if it detects both: the ADB and the connected device, it will load up after completing initial checks. If the tool fails to load, there might be some problems with your ADB drivers or USB Debugging mode which you will have to check. Step 4: After the tool loads up, the first thing you will have to do is configure the backup directory. The default directory that the tool uses is C:\backup and the best thing to do would be to keep it as it is. Having done that, you will see many backup options that it provides and each of them will have a number associated with it. If you would like to backup all the apps along with its associated data, select the option 4 and press Enter. Step 5: The tool will start the backup process and prompt you to confirm the same on your phone. You can provide an optional encryption password before taking the backup. After the tool completes the backup process, you will get a confirmation dialog box notifying you about the same. The backup process may take a considerable amount of time depending upon the number of applications installed on your device. So that was how you can take the backup of the apps. Let’s now see how to restore it. Note: Currently there is no way to take backup of only selected apps. It’s either everything or nothing. Restoring a BackupWhen you want to restore the apps, connect the device to your computer using the data cable and run the Ultimate Backup Tool batch file. This time select option 8 corresponding to restore. Once you start the restore process, the tool will prompt you to confirm it on your phone as well. If you have encrypted the backup, provide the password while restoring the app. That’s all, all the apps along with their associated data and saved content will be eventually restored to your phone. ConclusionI am sure non-rooted Android users who always criticized their phone when it came to backup will love this trick. The only problem with the current version of the tool is that it does not provide selective backup and restore options. But you never know, it might be fixed in the future updates. Source -
There is chance for all smartphone users except motorola to rejoice . soon all who thought lapdock for motorola should have inspired others will have a chance. since lot of people who already own other brand smart phone (android & apple) can get this neat clambook and have a smartphone convert into netbook. for your jobs on the go, you dont have to buy ultrabook or netbook . specially people who feel their superpower phone does most jobs for them if only it can get a bigger screen and KB with trackpad. its like the exorbitant attempt asus made with padfone. Android: Get MSL instantly by Terminal emulator on device
dr.faramroze posted a topic in Technical / OS related
I am posting this as a part of learning for the noob, as read on most forums it may not be morally correct to trouble the seller lifelong for small little help. This is a new way out for instantly fetching MSL without any hassle especially when we have forgotten the MSL (SPC) or is locked by the carrier. I have attached the apk file as a part of resource, The command: # getprop.ril.MSL (sometimes even without $ or #) "xxxxxx" answer is the the six digit xxxxxx MSL (SPC). Thank you Term.apk -

Incoming calls on some Android phones using Reliance CDMA shows 0091xxxxxxxxxx, which the phone contacts may not recognise preventing outgoing calls in this format. I have devised a build.prop tweak which will revert back to 0xxxxxxxxxx number format with ease. Remember, always backup your build.prop before tweaking so we can switch it back when in trouble. 1. Using root explorer, from root file system locate the 'system' folder 2. go to build.prop and long press select open in text editor 3. opened, got to the line #ro.config.hwft_MatchNum=____ change from whatever to 7 ( RCDMA only accepts 7) #ro.config.hwft_MatchNumShort=____ Change from whatever to 7 more CDMA build.prop tweaks will be continued........

Tutorial: [Android]: Setting up 1x/EvDo on RUIM handsets by Root Explorer
dr.faramroze posted a topic in Technical / OS related
Ok, so I got myself an MTS MTAG 3.1 (Huawei C8511)/(Huawei C8500S China Telecom) which was ruim unclocked but data incompatible for Reliance. This guide works for other various Android non-OMH CDMA handsets as well. This is for those whose APN list is not editable or custom APN cannot be saved.Tested. This is my sole invention and work and is not published anywhere else till now. Use is as per your discretion. 1. Make sure the handset is rooted and busybox and SU are installed and updated. 2. Open Root explorer and allow SU permission if opened for the first time. 3. Delete the cust folder in the root system of the device. This folder carries operator files, multimedia, operator apks and NV traces. 4. goto apns-conf.xml in /system/etc folder 5. Longpress on apns-conf.xml and select open in text editor 6. Once the text editor pops up, scroll down and you will see China Telecom, Sprint, Verizon, M-pcs, Virgin, APNs list. 7. Edit the first APN (default one) with Reliance APN settings we all know here. 8. Keep changing all the APNS till down with various settings. Once can edit the defualt value with usr=net/pass=net and the other ones with mdn/mdn combination. 9. Be careful do not put any extra space or delete any comma or double colon. 10. Click to save and exit, original bak will be backed up automatically. 11. Goto root using root explorer and in system folder locate build.prop 12. Longpress and open using editor 13. Goto ro.cdma.home.operator.numeric= ____ change it to 404 00 and ro.cdma.home.operator.alpha=______ change it to Reliance 14. This can be a little troublesome so bak is imp. Click to save and exit. 15. Reboot. 16. In some devices, the APN list in Network settings gets automatically updated, in some you have to put it manually but now the custom APNs will be saved.- 54 replies

I want an Android with Physical Slider keyboard. Have narrowed down to Droid 4 and (soon going to launch, on 19th Aug) Photon Q. Which one would be better? Droid 4 has higher battery life among the two (of the data in hand at present), but ICS hasn't come yet, Jelly Bean would be light years away. Photon Q will launch with ICS, so have a chance for Jelly Bean. But battery life doesn't look promising (reviews after the launch will give exact idea). Please advice on the technical side. Thanks! This development done by a dev bahathir @ XDA is awesome. My d/l speed just doubled by doing this. Following is the development posted on XDA. Disclaimer: 1) This is for developers and advanced users who know what to do. 2) Do it at your own risk. I am not responsible to any problem due to this modification/hacking. 3) I am not showing how to change/edit the file. 3 days ago, I did a change in /system/etc/ppp/peers/pppd-ril.options. This is the orignal content of the file. Code: nodetach debug noauth defaultroute usepeerdns connect-delay 1000 # Don't remove the user/password lines. They are required to make PPPD authenticate itself with # the BP when doing Simple IP (SIP). The BP will replace the user/password strings with the correct # values when authenticating to the network-side PPP peer. user NotUsed@nobody.com password NotUsed crtscts lcp-echo-failure 0 lcp-echo-interval 0 ipcp-max-configure 30 ipcp-max-failure 30 ipcp-max-terminate 10 novj linkname ril Just by commenting or remove line 18, Code: # novj we may able to get better 3G network speed. The change may enable the Van Jacobson style TCP/IP header compression. Your cellular network may or may not support this feature. My 3G cellular network (Celcom Malaysia, HSDPA 3.6Mbps) seem to be supporting this feature. Before the change, I got (down/up) 3.4/0.5 Mbps, but, after the change, the result is quite impressive as we can see in the screenshot. Sometime, I got about 2x of download speed when download podcasts MP3s, from 400 kBps to upto 800 kBps. Mbps : Mega bit per second kBps : kilo BYTE per second Anyone who tried this hack/mod either for 3G or 4G, please report your before and after results. Remember to reboot after changes Thank you Reference: $ man pppd Original Thread Link : http://forum.xda-dev...d.php?t=1800351

I want a slider QWERTY android phone in Mumbai on Vodafone network. Narrowed down to Motorola Droid 4, which has a GSM radio but isn't enabled by Verizon. How do I make it work here in Mumbai? Also, from where can I buy the phone? Do I have to order from USA via someone for a non-contract version or with contract will also do without any efforts? What does Verizon mean when they say with the GSM patch, can roam globally? Does that mean that although I'll be using the phone 100% of the time in India only, it'll be on roaming? Would be glad if anyone can help me clear all these doubts. Thank You Very much!

Hi, Gurus please help me. I have a Nexus s4g with ICS 4.0.4 on it. The problem is its radio is off and i am unable to find any solution to turn on the radio. I tried flashing the stock rom using odin which was done successfully but the problem is still there. On checking the status in phone settings, its showing the MEID as "unknown". I also tried turning on the radio using secret code: #*#*4636*#*# but its not turning on. Also i am unable to put the phone in diag mode using the 8778 code. Its not getting detected by computer in diag mode whereas in normal mode it is detected as nexus and disk drive is also working. Guys please help me to get this phone working. Hope to hear from the technical gurus soon. Thanks Deepak Rahuja 9312270605

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean It's here, the next version of Android. So who will get it first? The Nexus 7 Tablet ships with Jelly Bean on board and Galaxy Nexus, the Motorola Xoom, and the Nexus S wil get it from mid july via over the air update. What's NEW? Fast & Smooth with Project Butter With buttery graphics and silky transitions. We put Android under a microscope, making everything feel fast, fluid, and smooth. Moving between home screens and switching between apps is effortless, like turning pages in a book. More reactive and uniform touch responses mean you can almost feel the pixels beneath as your finger moves across the screen. Jelly Bean makes your Android device even more responsive by boosting your device’s CPU instantly when you touch the screen, and turns it down when you don’t need it to improve battery life. To ensure a consistent framerate, Android 4.1 extends vsync timing across all drawing and animation done by the Android framework. Everything runs in lockstep against a 16 millisecond vsync heartbeat — application rendering, touch events, screen composition, and display refresh — so frames don’t get ahead or behind. Android 4.1 also adds triple buffering in the graphics pipeline, for more consistent rendering that makes everything feel smoother, from scrolling to paging and animations. Android 4.1 reduces touch latency not only by synchronizing touch to vsync timing, but also by actually anticipating where your finger will be at the time of the screen refresh. This results in a more reactive and uniform touch response. In addition, after periods of inactivity, Android applies a CPU input boost at the next touch event, to make sure there’s no latency. Project Butter VIDEO Simple, beautiful and beyond smart - Expandable, actionable notifications. Android has always put you in control when it comes to staying notified and connected. Now you can take action directly from the notifications shade. Late for a meeting? Email everyone to let them know. Missed a call? Call them back in an instant. And because they’re expandable, you can get an even deeper look into the things that matter most, like multiple emails or photos on Google+. Notifications have long been a unique and popular feature on Android. Developers can use them to place important or time-based information in front of users in the notification bar, outside of the app’s normal UI. Android 4.1 brings a major update to the Android notifications framework. Apps can now display larger, richer notifications to users that can be expanded and collapsed with a pinch. Notifications support new types of content, including photos, have configurable priority, and can even include multiple actions. Widgets work like magic. With Jelly Bean it’s now even easier to personalize your home screen. As you place widgets on the screen, everything else automatically moves to make room. When they’re too big, widgets resize on their own. Interacting with your favorite apps and customizing your home screen has never been easier. Seamlessly take and share photos. Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich, made snapping photos super fast; Jelly Bean brings that same speed to the next step: viewing. Just swipe over from camera to filmstrip view to instantly view the photos you just took, and quickly swipe away the ones you don’t like. Now sharing--and bragging--are a breeze. A smarter keyboard. Android’s dictionaries are now more accurate, more relevant. The language model in Jelly Bean adapts over time, and the keyboard even guesses what the next word will be before you’ve started typing it. With improved text-to-speech capabilities, voice typing on Android is even better; it works even when you don’t have a data connection, so you can type with your voice everywhere you go. Accessibility. With Jelly Bean, blind users can use 'Gesture Mode' to reliably navigate the UI using touch and swipe gestures in combination with speech output. Jelly Bean also adds support for accessibility plugins to enable external Braille input and output devices via USB and Bluetooth. Android Beam. With Android Beam on Jelly Bean you can now easily share your photos and videos with just a simple tap, in addition to sharing contacts, web pages, YouTube videos, directions, and apps. Just touch two NFC-enabled Android devices back-to-back, then tap to beam whatever's on the screen to your friend. Instantly pair your Android phone or tablet to Bluetooth devices like headsets or speakers that support the Simple Secure Pairing standard by just tapping them together - no more syncing or searching required. The new Google experience on Android The best of Google just got better on Android. The search experience in Jelly Bean has a new look-and-feel, and has faster and more natural Voice Search. And Google Now brings you just the right information, before you even ask. Google Now brings you just the right information at just the right time. Google Now tells you today’s weather before you start your day, how much traffic to expect before you leave for work, when the next train will arrive as you’re standing on the platform, or your favorite team's score while they’re playing. And the best part? All of this happens automatically. Cards appear throughout the day at the moment you need them. Google Now VIDEO A new look for Search. Android has search at its core. With Jelly Bean, a redesigned experience uses the power of the Knowledge Graph to show you search results in a richer way. It’s easier to quickly get answers and explore and browse search results. Voice Search. Sometimes you’d rather just speak your search query. Or just ask a question. Android lets you search the web with your voice, and it’s convenient for getting quick answers on the fly. It speaks back to you and is powered by the Knowledge Graph, bringing you a precise answer if it knows it, and precisely ranked search results, so you can always find out more. USB Audio USB audio output support allows hardware vendors to build hardware such as audio docks that interface with Android devices. Multichannel audio Android 4.1 supports multichannel audio on devices that have hardware multichannel audio out through the HDMI port. Multichannel audio lets you deliver rich media experiences to users for applications such as games, music apps, and video players. For devices that do not have the supported hardware, Android automatically downmixes the audio to the number of channels that are supported by the device (usually stereo). Android 4.1 also adds built-in support for encoding/decoding AAC 5.1 audio. App Encryption Starting with Android 4.1, Google Play will help protect application assets by encrypting all paid apps with a device-specific key before they are delivered and stored on a device. This is probably to stop piracy of paid apps. Most probably say goodbye to sharing a paid app in jellybean. Smart App Updates Smart app updates is a new feature of Google Play that introduces a better way of delivering app updates to devices. When developers publish an update, Google Play now delivers only the bits that have changed to devices, rather than the entire APK. This makes the updates much lighter-weight in most cases, so they are faster to download, save the device’s battery, and conserve bandwidth usage on users’ mobile data plan. On average, a smart app update is about 1/3 the size of a full APK update.

This topic explores the best replacement for stock apps on your Android phone. Web Browsers A smartphone’s usefulness is very much dependent upon its web browser and is undoubtedly, one of the most used apps. In the prehistoric ages (all of five years ago ), you were lucky if your smartphone could render images on a webpage, but now it’s possible to use your phone to view the internet in all of its glory – well, most of its glory. In the case of Android devices, there are a lot of browsers to choose from and each one has its own strengths and weaknesses, making it better suited for some tasks but less suited for others. Which browser you’ll want to use depends on what you want to do with it. Who says you can’t install two (or more) browsers anyway? In choosing a browser for your phone, you have to judge it by the rendering performance, web compatibility, viewing performance, features, and general ease of use. Also you have to take into account the more tenuous data connection, the smaller screen and the kind of tasks that you need or want to do on your handset. The beauty of Android is that you have options, and you’re not stuck with just one browser. Though third-party browsers are available for iOS as well, Apple doesn't allow such tools to replace the built-in Safari browser altogether. I have rounded up some of the most popular Android browsers here, Vote for the one you feel deserves the crown. If I have omitted any, please post here so that it may be added. Video Players Most of you will probably agree if I say that the stock video player for Android is a pretty solid application that caters to our needs of playing videos on our beloved phone. For those who find the stock video player a little short in features, well, the Android Market hosts several third-party apps that will cater to your requirements for seamless and almost skip-free video playing and also provide many additional features. Vote for the video player that you will vouch for. Did we miss out your favourite player for Android? If so, please post below so that it may be listed. Launchers Android's greatest, platform-defining feature is customizability. Other mobile OSes provide little room for home screen customization, but Android has several choices for you and your inner creativity. Called “launchers” or “home screen replacements”, these apps allow you to customize the way the screen looks when you press the Home button on your phone. The best part is that anyone can do it and there is absolutely no hacking or trickery involved; just download, install and begin customizing. But which launcher replacement is the best? Share here. - - - - - - - - - - - Images courtesy Iconpedia, gawkerassets, lisisoft

Beats Audio Now Available For Any Gingerbread ROMs Source Source Now it seems almost all smartphone users can enjoy the popular sound modification. Yes, that’s right. As you may have assumed, Beats Audio on HTC phones has nothing to do with hardware; it’s just an advanced audio equalizer. Beats Audio has been an important part of HTC’s latest marketing strategy, and although some people are skeptical about any sound improvements, look at the the before/after images on a Samsung Galaxy SL at the source. You can hear the best improvement with high quality headphones! And with original Beats Audio one (But of course also with lower cost ones) However, we still have to wait for the ultimate phone that features Motorola build quality, HTC aesthetics, and Samsung screens and internals. This is a Beats Audio Port and should work for all Gingerbread Roms. The sounds will be more natural, playing with more clarity. Most people come into custom roms and dont really *understand* what the forums are saying to them in the terms of doing things the right way, often things get misinterpreted as i understand but really you don't!!! This is the case when it comes to custom roms installation, new comers think yeah i'll have a go and go for it without even understanding the basics of custom roms, wrong move, a little research didn't do anybody any harm, and is time well spent when it comes to taking a gamble on bricking your phone. The main thing I've noticed is that people don't understand what a full wipe is and just go with what they see... Going into clockwork mode and just selecting wipe data, wipe delvic cache, wipe cache, is not a proper full wipe, its like wiping your *** with **** still in your bumhole untill you wash it, no no no, this method doesn't remove the old system files, there still there untill you carry out a format of the system partition, if you dont do this and install a rom over it you will have problems with the rom you just installed. The correct procedure for doing a full wipe is below.

Go to clockwork mode recovery. Volume up, power button, and home button all pressed together for a couple of seconds
Go to mounts and storage and select it.
Go to format / system and select it. Scroll down to format system and select yes.
Go to format / data and select it Scroll down to format data and select yes.
Go to format / cache and select it. Scroll down to format cache and select yes
Go to format / cache and select it. Scroll down to format cache and select yes That's it no need to format anything else, just go back and install the rom
from sd card. This is the correct way of doing a full wipe everything is erased and formatted ready for the new rom, no old system files etc....
