fghosh 0 Report post Posted June 22, 2004 Hi, I have recently loaded Fedora Core 1 (kernel 2.4.22) on my brand new HP d220M PC. Faced exactly the same problem while trying to install the r-connect-cmdline-1.0 dowloaded from Reliance site. The system was connected via the serial port (COM1) and the same phone (LG FWP 340e) / cable works fine with my Windows 2000 machines. The system simply failed to detect the modem! What I am not sure is whether I need to wait for upgrades (since this was a Beta version) from Reliance, or will have to upgrade to kernel 2.6.x As this machine is going to be used as a home PC, R-Connect is the only way to get it online. Any suggestions? Thanks
fghosh 0 Report post Posted July 16, 2004 Hi, Thought it worthwhile to report for the benefit of all those struggling to make R-Connect work with Linux! As I had reported earlier, the version 1.0 (beta) was not of much help. But the good news is it is irrelevant. Go through the article (http://axion.physics.ubc.ca/ppp-linux.html) which gives step by step guidance of how to connect to your ISP (Reliance in this case) from a Linux box using pppd and chat. I managed to make it work (after some tweaking here & there) with Fedora-Core-1 (kernel 2.4.22) and, btw, there is no problem with the linux driver as reported somewhere else. I used a regular serial cable (not USB), but I guess it will also work with USB port as well. If you would like to know about the details, please send me a Personal mail, based on the response I will put the relevant details on this site! Good luck... greyhammer 0 Report post Posted July 25, 2004 I'm getting the same problem as fghosh - only his suggested howto to solve the problem I can't figure out. I have no problem surfing in windows, but the r-connect software refuses to detect the modem at dev/ttyS0, which is where it is. (COM1) - windows can vouch for that. I have the LG wireless phone I forget the model no. now - anyway, t is not a mobile, and the cable provided is a serial cable. I'm using Mandrake 9.0, kernel 2.4.something-mdk Please help - I hate using windows and it is also virus ridden - can't get work done.

Vishal Gupta 4 Report post Posted October 2, 2004 I wonder Reliance has removed the link to d/l R-connect drivers for linux from its website? The link was: http://www.relianceinfo.com/Infocomm/html/...x_rconnect.html But now it gives error: "The requested URL /Infocomm/html/rservices/rservices_linux_rconnect.html was not found on this server."
