I feel tata has better connectivity here in our estate... plus they are not as huge as reliance, so if less customers, they would give more attention... unlike reliance...

Also waiting for MTS... lets see their response in gujarat.. :)

Telcordia Receives Green Signal From Home Ministry To Implement MNP

source:ZEE BUSINESS

Telcordia the prospective Mobile Number Portability firm getting clearance from the Indian Home Ministry to start its MNP operations in the country. The MNP shall allow mobile subscribers to retain their existing mobile number when they switch from one access service provider to another irrespective of mobile technology or from one technology to another of the same or any other access service provider within same service area.

Switching existing mobile operators to the new operator without changing mobile numbers may become possible from May-2010 , with Telcordia, the US-based telecom solution vendor that was selected by the Department of Telecom (DoT) to be one of the firms to make Mobile Number Portability possible, had hit a security issue owing to its operations in Pakistan.

At the last Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB)FIPB meeting, the home ministry is learnt to have given clearance to the company with some riders that mandated Telecordia USA to furnish credible information about its exact role in Pakistan — whether it was just a vendor or did it also enable MNP in that country.

Richard Jacowleff, Chairman Designate, MNP Interconnection Telecom Solutions Pvt Ltd and President, Interconnection Solutions, Telcordia, said, “We are extremely excited to be part of the new era of communications in India. Number portability will accelerate the evolution of advanced communications services and gives operators an easier way to differentiate themselves to attract and retain customers. India is a unique country in terms of communications growth and opportunity, and Telcordia and MNP Interconnection have the expertise required for implementing a scalable, flexible and highly reliable number portability solution.”

The country was divided in two zones and licenses were issued to one MNP operator in each zone. The operators in the two zones of the country were to provide centralised database, query response and clearing house to enable correct routing and termination of calls by access-service providers and ILD operators post MNP implementation.

Mobile Number Portability In India Delayed

Here is the bad news for Mobile Service users who are waiting for the Mobile Number Portability (MNP). India has pushed the implementation of MNP across all the telecom circles to a delay of some more months from the earlier deadline of March 31, 2010.

The Government of India would soon announce the new deadline for implementation of MNP. The revised time line will be announced after ascertaining the status from all the stakeholders and reasonable time required for Acceptance Testing etc., so that no network problem in call processing/completion, surfaces out after MNP Services are launched.

The MNP shall allow mobile subscribers to retain their existing mobile number when they switch from one access service provider to another irrespective of mobile technology or from one technology to another of the same or any other access service provider within same service area.

According to the statement by Mr Gurudas Kamat Minister of State for Communications & IT, “The Government is making all efforts to get the Mobile Number Portability (MNP) implemented at the earliest. However, for this purpose, the whole networks in the country are to be ready and tested before the MNP Service is implemented. Various activities are required to be carried out by the operators including technical augmentation and up gradation of their existing networks, carrying out required installation verification tests, establishing links with MNP Operators and conducting inter operator test.”

After the service providers are ready with their own inter-operator test results, a complete Acceptance Test is to be carried out by Department of Telecommunications (DOT) across the networks of all the concerned service providers in all the service areas before

MNP implemented. Though the Government has set the time line for implementing MNP by March 31, 2010, all the networks are not likely to be completely ready by 31st March, 2010 and the deadline of 31.03.2010 is not likely to be met.

The country was divided in two zones and licenses were issued to one MNP operator in each zone. The operators in the two zones of the country were to provide centralized database, query response and clearing house to enable correct routing and termination of calls by access-service providers and ILD operators post MNP implementation

MNP to be delayed by at least 3 months

12 Mar 2010, 2141 hrs IST, PTI

NEW DELHI: The mobile number portability, which enables subscribers to retain their numbers while changing operators, is likely to be delayed by at

least another three months till July as a system is not yet in place to roll out the service.

This was decided at an internal meeting of the Department of Telecom (DoT) today, highly placed sources said, adding the service may see light of the day earliest by July this year.

Given the number of operators and as many as 12 billion calls per day, the system has to be in place and this may take some more time, they said. Asked whether by July the service will come into effect, sources said this will be the minimum period required for implementing the service.

The government had earlier given the deadline of March 31 for implementing MNP across the country. Minister of State for Communications and IT Gurudas Kamat had earlier informed the Rajya Sabha that the March 31 deadline for MNP would not be met.

"Since all networks are not likely to be completely ready by March 31, the deadline is not likely to be met," he had said.
