kesav 127 Report post Posted April 20, 2010 MNP expected to be ringing by 30th June Source DOT........... As per the mentioned source, all the service providers should complete Inter Operator Test (IOT) by 15th May 2010. But no news is coming out in the public domain whether all operators are equipped and whether tests are in progress. We don't want to hear again fancy stories and reasons for not completing IOT on the eve of 15th may 2010(i.e. midnight 14th may 2010). I'm feeling sick about the way DoT functions. phonegeek 588 Report post Posted April 23, 2010 Source : ET No. portability gets stuck again NEW DELHI: After missing several deadlines, mobile number portability (MNP) is now stuck with the home ministry over clearance for the porting process for numbers under lawful interception. Security agencies are carefully evaluating the procedure for seamless lawful interception of messages/call-related information in case the ported number — the one that seeks portability — is already under lawful interception. It is this issue that is now in the final stages of resolution. According to the telecom ministry, it could take another two to three months for the home ministry to give its clearance, but are hopeful that India will see number portability well in place before the end of 2010. MNP allows consumers to retain their mobile numbers when transferring from one mobile network to another. Since this unleashes genuine competitive pressures, its biggest upside is a marked improvement in quality of service. It could also marginally reduce tariffs in areas like international roaming and value-added services where there is insufficient price competition. The government has missed several of its own deadlines for the launch of number portability, including September 2009 and December 31, and more recently March 2010. It is well known that number portability is not favoured by incumbents as they could take the biggest hits on their large, premium and captive subscriber bases. Unsurprisingly, there have been regulatory, technical and commercial forces working against the early implementation of number portability from the start. Technical and operational issues surrounding number portability have been the cause of some delays though these have been largely cleared after several rounds of meetings between the DoT, security agencies and telecom operators. Security agencies were later concerned over the credentials of Telcordia and its joint venture partner, Deepak Talwar & Associates which bagged a contract for number portability for two of four zones. Additionally, there were objections about Telcordia's operations in other countries that are hostile to India and the fact that Deepak Talwar & Associates have no experience in telecom. While the issue was eventually settled following explicit assurances from the company, it set back the launch of MNP by 6 months.

starnet 7 Report post Posted April 23, 2010 So the closure of Reliance GSM has been postponed by a few more months. Their (RGSM) network is so bad that almost every customer in right state of mind will like to move out of Reliance network. Among the existing companies only Reliance is going to lose the customers on net basis. Conspiracy theory is that they are the ones who don't want MNP. HetalDP 947 Report post Posted April 23, 2010 I have used RGSM and along with BSNL and Idea all s**ks RCDMA is good is still a Numero uno choice
ipkonfig 10 Report post Posted April 23, 2010 do you think that these babu's will ever let the MNP come in india. Well said. I knew something or the other might turn up. And I am not surprised to see this piece of news. As mentioned in the news article, many forces are acting against MNP in India and strangely they seem to win every time .. me_saket 73 Report post Posted April 23, 2010 It's game plan of MR R@j@. Once 3G will start, Big operator companies will look forward to get MNP, So as to catch hold of "Newer customer going to newer operator," Basically if u look at situation, if mnp start now, it's more benificial to newer operator, but if it will start after 3g, so that customer will stay on their n/w with 3G support, and newer player can't attract them on thier n/w. so it's now sure that mnp will start at DEC2010 or JAN2011( with 1000000000000000000000.....000000000000% GUARANTEE)
