raccoon 53 Report post Posted June 30, 2010 (edited) @Hitesh, Well, I believe those who are ment to be in touch, will remain, with or without number change. Those that aren't, wont. Others may of course think different. Changing number is a hassle, but not half as much as what most people make out to be. All is takes is an SMS to multiple recipients (your contacts). Yes some people may get a li'l pissed, but that can't be helped. Nor is it unreasonable, as long as you don't do it often. Of course, people who are using the number as a business phone, professionals who are dependent of phone for work and have their number circulated, may not find it feasible. For them call diverting could be the best option. Edited June 30, 2010 by raccoon

Arun 795 Report post Posted July 11, 2010 MTNL will be ready for MNP in a month: CMD CIOL - Wednesday, July 07, 2010 Amidst the uncertainty over the implementation of the Mobile Number Portability, which has been delayed further, as the telecom players are not yet ready with the MNP gateways, state-run telecom operator Mahanagar Telecom Nigam Ltd (MTNL) said that it has ordered for the MNP gateways and the infrastructure would be ready in one month's time. “We have ordered for the gateway and we are waiting for the software to come. We would meet the new deadline of October 31, to implement the service,” MTNL chairman and managing director Kuldip Singh told CIOL on the sidelines of an event here today, where Novatium Solutions launched MTNL Nova Navigator Service for MTNL broadband subscribers in Delhi and Mumbai. Singh said that MTNL will use its own server for making gateway and will deploy MNP software on those servers.
KanagaDeepan 1,084 Report post Posted July 13, 2010 Unless the operators are fined heavily for about Rs10Crore for EACH DAY, they missed the new dead-line, MNP will never come... srk006 21 Report post Posted July 14, 2010 Portability rollout to hit Telcordia hurdle NEW DELHI: The much-delayed mobile number portability (MNP) in India could be a non-starter as the government has rejected the proposal of US-based Telcordia Technologies, one of the two companies chosen to implement the technology here, an official with direct knowledge of the development told ET. The foreign investment promotion board (FIPB), the government body that clears all major investment proposals, rejected Telcordia’s proposal on Monday on security grounds after the home ministry refused to grant its approval for the deal in its current format, a telecom department official said. When contacted, Ashok Sapra, MD (India) MNP Interconnections Solutions, said, “We are unaware of any decision of FIPB at this point, but we believe that the government of India will take a fair and reasonable view of our case.” “In the event of the government turning down or declining permission to us, we will certainly take recourse within the tenable norms and laws of this democratic nation.” The FIPB had deliberated on Telcordia’s proposal for over eight months and had deferred it several times during this period due to objections raised by the home ministry, including the company’s presence in Pakistan. Interestingly, FIPB had recently cleared a proposal by another telco that had operations in Pakistan. Telcordia had an equipment supply agreement with a vendor in Pakistan that ended last November. The communication, finance, commerce and other ministries had all said that they had no objections to the proposal. MNP was scheduled to be implemented from January 1, 2010, in the metros and category-A circles, while the rest of the country was slated to have this platform by April 1, 2010. But, the implementation of this facility has already missed three deadlines and the telecom ministry has set October 31 as the last date to launch the service. The FIPB’s rejection of Telcordia’s proposal implies that India will miss the October 31 deadline too. Syniverse is the other company that has been selected to implement MNP in India. The home ministry has also reversed its earlier stance when, in February, it had agreed to give conditional security clearance to Telcordia Technologies’ proposal. The home ministry had then decided to attach a rider that none of the staff of the US-based telecom firm that have worked in Pakistan, at any point of time, can be employed in the Indian operations. It had also said that the CEO of the Indian arm, a 74:26 JV between Telcordia Technologies and Deepak Talwar Consultants, will have to be an Indian. Indian regulations do not allow more than 74% foreign holdings in any company that offers communications and related services here. This resulted in Telcordia entering an agreement with Deepak Talwar Consultants for its Indian operations with the latter holding the remaining 26%. The US government had also put its weight behind the company. Minister-counsellor for commercial affairs at the US embassy, Carmine D’Aloisio wrote to finance secretary Ashok Chawla urging the Indian government to send the “right signals” to American companies looking to invest in India. “The company views India as a key market, and is currently committed to expanding its operations here. I hope that the company continues to thrive in India and your government sends the right signals about fairness and predictability in the India business climate, encouraging further American investment and participation in India,” Mr D’Aloisio had written in his letter. kesav 127 Report post Posted July 15, 2010 (edited) It's horrible news for the citizens if its true. Why the hell MHA is sitting on this matter for more than 2 years (time at which Telcordia came to picture)? Do they think that citizens can be fooled by quoting security reasons? Let CBI investigate whether incumbents(like Airtel, Vodafone, Idea etc.,) have paid in ransom to officials in MHA. Edited July 16, 2010 by kesav

chitshar 25 Report post Posted July 15, 2010 Friends we know there are forces at work who do not want mnp to come. They are trying their best and have delayed its implementation by a year, but they cannot stop its implementation they can only delay it. They might be able to delay it for next6-8 months but after that it will definately come. I hope politicians and babus under their payroll wont say that mnp is impossible to implement in India when Pakistan has it. Nor will DOT take back its decision to launch mnp in India. ::Hitesh:: 1,763 Report post Posted July 15, 2010 wow nice jokes going on here ! MNP is a distance dream !! dont wait for it ! pay more to same operator !!
raccoon 53 Report post Posted July 16, 2010 (edited) Why is everyone still so frustrated about MNP? Ranting here won't help. Find ways to change your number/use another operator by using 2 phones/dual SIM ph/call forwarding/whatever else; and make the best of lower tariffs and better service. Inconvenience will be there, but you cannot have your cake and eat it too. If a lot of people do this, the forces that are preventing MNP will soon realize that its prevention does not have much meaning. kesav 127 Report post Posted July 23, 2010 BSNL, MTNL may delay number portability: Trai NEW DELHI: There are growing signs that the implementation of mobile number portability may miss its freshly set October 31 deadline, this time because government-run firms BSNL and MTNL are unprepared. Telecom regulator Trai has written to DoT saying, "the Authority is apprehensive that unless DoT, which is the administrative department for these PSUs, takes a firm commitment from them, their lack of action will continue to result in further delay in the implementation of MNP." Trai points out that India is one of the few countries where the subscribers have yet to enjoy the benefit of MNP and a repeated extension of timelines is not advisable. MNP allows subscribers to change their mobile service provider while retaining their existing mobile number. Since MNP unleashes genuine competitive pressures, its biggest upside is a marked improvement in quality of service. It could also marginally reduce tariffs in areas like international roaming and value-added services where there is insufficient price competition. According to Trai, it recently called for the latest status report from both the MNP status providers Telcordia and Syniverse, which showed that all the service providers are at various stages of testing except BSNL and MTNL. "While BSNL is yet to start testing as its MNP gateway is not ready, MTNL is still in the process of placing the purchase order". MNP was to have been implemented in 2009, but has met with severe resistance from operators. More recently, the deadline for its implementation was shifted first to March 31, 2010 and then extended to June 30 and later to October 31. It also ran into trouble with the home ministry and the FIPB over security clearances, but has been jinxed over one or another count since it was first announced. "DoT is requested to take necessary action for MNP implementation so that it is implemented before October 31, 2010 and that there is no further extension of MNP implementation date,” Trai writes. source :: http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/business/india-business/BSNL-MTNL-may-delay-number-portability-Trai/articleshow/6202993.cms Mr. Raja, Where are you? Are you listening to TRAI's concerns? Why BSNL and MTNL have become so poor-performing after you took over them? Are they listening to you at least? Come On Come On....No more extension of MNP....please Mr. Raja, Do something....... :'( :'( :'(
