sougata666 0 Report post Posted September 4, 2007 Was the net connect service down for a few days? I was not able to surf the net through my Laptop data card. I think the problem was fixed yesterday (3rd sep, 2007) but now there is some invisible firewall which is blocking some of the sites (eg www.orkut.com) on Internet Explorer. My own XP firewalls are off. Mind you, I am able to login through Firefox. Also, my yahoo messenger is also not logging in. I am able to login through Yazak though. I haven't changed any of my settings so why is this happening? Is reliance employing some kind of firewall now? Can anybody help me out? This has not happened before. I am using this data card for quite a long time now.
Arun 795 Report post Posted September 4, 2007 NetConnect wasn't down and I have been using NetConnect for the past few days now. Though it could have been down in your area due to network problems. Since you say that you are able to access orkut.com via FireFox but not via Internet Explorer, then it must be an issue with your IE. Run AdAware and Spybot Search and Destroy, available from lavasoft.de and safer-networking.org respectfully (free). Also, if you have an anti-virus program, make sure that you have the most up to date virus definitions, and run a virus scan. If none of those seem to help, run a HijackThis test (Google it) and then post the log of the scan up here.
sougata666 0 Report post Posted September 4, 2007 Thanks a lot Arun. I will be carrying out the tests you mentioned. I wonder how IE can affect Yahoo messenger though since it is also not able to log me in. If I was behind a firewall, surely Firefox would also not function. I checked all the cookie settings n stuff. This has not happened before and I didn't fiddle with the settings. I access Netconnect in Indore. I guess the local servers were down. Then again, Customer care won't be divulging their embarassing secrets! Any clue about my Yahoo Messenger? It was working fine before. I even removed my MSN messenger to be doubly sure. Nirvana 4 Report post Posted September 4, 2007 (edited) If a firewall has been implemented at Reliance's side, then that will be a pan-network implementation, but I am logged into Yahoo Messenger without any problem and connected via NetConnect on my laptop. It could be a virus/spyware that is causing the issues for you as Arun mentioned. Edited September 4, 2007 by Nirvana
sougata666 0 Report post Posted September 4, 2007 All the tests turned out to be negative! Dunno what's wrong. My antivirus is upto date. So is my McAfee firewall. And the firewall allows IE full access. I will try reinstalling Messenger. I have removed it for the time being. Nirvana 4 Report post Posted September 4, 2007 The log looks OK. Could you try disabling your firewall completely and see if the wierd issues continue to happen for you ?
sougata666 0 Report post Posted September 5, 2007 I installed the firewall after this happened. I don't think the firewall is an issue.
sougata666 0 Report post Posted September 6, 2007 Solved my own problem by using the following command : REGSVR32 SOFTPUB.DLL I wonder what caused the class to get unregistered. Anyone any clues? Was it an external attack?
