Ramchi 0 Report post Posted September 11, 2007 As per my understanding, 8800 is a pure GSM phone whereas 8830 is a Global phone with GSM (900/1800) and CDMA (800/1900) with EVDO for better data rates plus 8830 has WiFi which is missing in 8800. BB 8800 may work only in GSM networks.
ACS 130 Report post Posted April 1, 2008 The 8830 World Edition 'Dual Phone GSM/CDMA' name itself is misleading.. It actually works with the Reliance GSM SIM Card provided by the WW/WWE's, only during International Roaming. Its a waste of a phone for Rs. 31,000. The 8703e does an equally good job for normal usage @ Rs. 15000, xcept that there are few differences in dimensions/features etc..
Dj 25 Report post Posted April 1, 2008 Anshuman... the answer to your question is NO... gsm instruments cannot work with cdma carriers and vice versa... they might look and feel the same... as in the US u have almost every other phone available for both cdma and gsm carriers simultaneously... so a BB 8800 cdma would work with reliance provided it works with ruim (cdma sim) or has been provisioned by reliance itslelf... ACS 130 Report post Posted April 2, 2008 RIM works in very few states like Bihar where it has GSM network and sells GSM BB's. Other states will not support since they have only CDMA towers. The BB 8830 world edition is nothing but a sales gimmick since it supports only GSM SIM's for International Roaming.
