city02 63 Report post Posted June 3, 2008 that's a misleading analogy: you can't wear a trouser on your head or a shirt on your legs! but you can use either technology for mobile communications. a better one would be comparing petrol vs diesel cars since both can be used for 4 wheeled transport its perfectly natural to compare rival standards... city02 63 Report post Posted June 9, 2008 i disagree - comparing GSM with CDMA highlights the shortcomings more acutely than just within CDMA alone with MNP [mobile number portability] to become a reality within a year and with dual mode [CDMA & GSM] handsets available, the network technology is becoming less relevant as time goes on. Dual technoogy phones can make network technology less relevent to certain extent but not fully. For example, in GSM, irrespective of brand and model of handset, you can send Long SMS, MMS (If handset supports) but in CDMA if said feature is not registered in system as supported system, you can not use that feature. LMS is supported by most modern handset but can not be sent if you do not use ESN of known handset in system. CDMA need to open up to compete with GSM.
