kshah 452 Report post Posted September 19, 2007 (edited) Hi all I got my Treo 700p yesterday. Treo too seems to be a good phone. Since we all are more familiar with using windows OS, we are more comfortable with 6700 than palm OS. I made bold and italic letter where I think its better. Boot time Treo: about 15 seconds PPC 6700: 35 seconds Screen Resolution: Treo: 320 X 320 pixels PPC: 320 X 240 pixels Battery: Palm: 1800 mAH PPC: 1350 mAH Screen size: Diagonal Palm: 6.5 cms PPC: 7 cms Palm: 4.7 X 4.7 cms PPC: 6 X 4.4 cms THough PPC screen is bigger, resolution and brightness of Treo is much much better than PPC Weight: Palm: 181 gms PPC:193 grams Treo is lighther still with higher capacity battery. Camara: Palm: 1.3 MP, without flash Image here PPC: 1.3 MP, with flash image here Both images are posted as it is. you decide which one is better Availability of software: Palm: Many but not as many as windows PPC: May be lakhs of sofwares Where Treo seems to be better 1, Ligheter weight 2. High capacity battery 3. Ergonomic to hold than PPC 4. Excellent screen resolution and brightness. Even default 50% brightness is good in bright sun light 5. Cheaper cost. I got brand new for US $ 190 + $ 60 Fedex + Rs 600 customs + Rs 900 octroi (It feels so good to use brand new handset than using old used ones) 6. Allow call recording PPC seems to be better 1. Bigger key board 2. Windows interface 3. Today screen, its very convinient 4. Real Multitasking 5. Bigger screen. Added on 23/9/2007 Afer installing few applications like Mega Launcher, Take Phone etc. it give almost all functionalities of PPC. Also speed of treo is better than PPC. Built in browser is just a basic browser good for text only browsing. Also there are very few good browser available for PALM OS. However Opera Mini is excellent browser. I will revise this after few days as I use handset. THis is primary review. Hope helps. Edited September 23, 2007 by kshah

Sadikk 301 Report post Posted September 19, 2007 Bad ESN Brand new Palm Treo 700p can e Bought @ $ 150 from USA Rest of the Cost as per Kalpak Will get some soon
kshah 452 Report post Posted October 1, 2007 Also this I will suggest this handsets to people who are interested in lowcost ($ 150 on ebay with bad ESN) PDA with excellent battery backup, excellent screen resolution to view movies, due to larger battery it can run longer, resolution makes it pleasure. Also network performance is really good. Due to poor network in my office, PPC or my partners LG drops calls very easily, where as I have not a single call dropped after 700P. Email and PC Sycronization is far superior than PPC. One need not to worry about hard rest, it restore every thing including mails, SMS, call log, programs, every thing. But it has no multithreading capabilities. Certain functionalities are better than PPC. To get 90-95% of PPC functionalities FEEL one need to install following softwares: 1. MegaLauncher / Zlauncher (To get today screen) 2. Takephone (To get smart dial like functionality) Basic built in calender is better than PPC. Browser is very poor. I can not log on to Ebay / yahoo / my companies Web mail. I tried with operamini 4 beta too. It hangs quite often. For that you need to install JVM, with JVM it supports JavaMidlet or J2ME means you can install java games. I have not tried games or any other things except operamini. Built in E mail client is better than PPC's but snappermail is substitute to Outlook express. Very customizable. Ringtones, volume are better than PPC. MP3 ringtone requires third party softwares. Documents to Go, supports, .doc, .xls, .ppt and .pdf and it is surprising that it supports them better than MS office mobile. Keypad is used more because its accessible any time. However PPC keyboard is bigger so more comfortable. Looking at PALM 5 OS I feel they have been too lethargic after developing really good OS, palm 4 on 7135 was not as good. Hence never bothered to upgrade OS to new age requirements. If I have to compare this with WM5, then except of Multitasking, PALM os is better than WM5 its Faster, stable. camera do not have flash, but screen brighness can wok as torchlight. Most mobile flash is used as torch light only. Camara on Treo said to be better than PPC, I seldom use it so dont know. Audio quality of music is at PAR. No wifi so some one may miss it. Bluetooth is easier and better than PPC. But no stereo support. One important area where Treo is lacking, no T9 or prdictive text input like PPC or ordinary phones. Softwares are smaller so main memory remains free for stability and speed

kshah 452 Report post Posted October 2, 2007 No typical R world, yet you can log on UTSTARCOM version, details see here http://www.reliancemobileworld.co.in/RMW/m...ails.jsp?flag=Y You can enjoy fullfledged browsing and fullfledged email. Any POP/SMTP/ IMAP4 server. Volume I have not found problem with any handset, may be I use too low volume, my phone never have full volume so I am not the right person to comment. I have read about T9 addons, will search and post about it.

kshah 452 Report post Posted October 3, 2007 (edited) No I have not because I dont use push mail. One more piece of information: Since 700P do not have WIFi, I was tying co connect it to BT LAN and it does creat BT LAN connection with my Laptop, hence I can connect to net free of cost while am in office. I never tried this on PPC 6700 so cant say about it. Edited October 3, 2007 by kshah
Dj 25 Report post Posted October 3, 2007 million dollar question... what is the status on its battery... how long does it last full guns on bt and all... i just might wanna move onto it (my long since dream to have palm over windows 5/6)
kshah 452 Report post Posted October 3, 2007 Battery life is typical question, when I switched over from XV6600 to 6700, I was used to get 36 hours of standby Plus about 150-180 min of talk time, 50% brighness, backlit off after 15 seconds, screen off after 60 seconds, with deteriorating networks, when I switched over to 700P I was used to get 24 hours + 90-100 min talk time. With 700P, BT ON, 60 mins TT and 12 hours, 50% brighness, screen off after 15 seconds, battery discharge to about 70%. Means I may get upto 200+ min of TT and 36 hours stand by. Power management seems to be better or may be due to 1800 mAH battery over 1350 mAH battery (almost 50% fatter battery). Now I do not discharge battery fully. I charge battery in my car, office when ever I get chance.
Dj 25 Report post Posted October 3, 2007 (edited) i assumed a higher power battery must be giving better backup... i get close to 150 mins TT on BT with a full day of standby... brightness at 30% and screen off after 10 secs... a little browsing for mail on rconnect thrown in on 6700... was hoping with similar setup, 700p sholud go twice the distance... pbananth 1 Report post Posted October 19, 2007 whether basic knowledge is enough to follow your instruction to use for Reliance.. from where u bought.. i am using mainly for browsing..is there any good browser u found for this phone.. thanks..
kshah 452 Report post Posted October 20, 2007 Browser is just OK, it can not open certain site especially like ebay where heavy java scripts are used. Ofcourse I use mainly for emails and is very happy, rather happier than PPC 6700. My another requirement was call recording, which this phone does better. If you are using sites which are designed for IE and requires IE only for security purpose than built in browser and most availble browsers are not upto the mark Tweaking is not very difficult.
